  • Honestly, I did not like this show. I saw the whole series and only found a handful of episodes interesting.

Plus Mikami was a mega bitch.

  • The manga is almost always better than the anime. Still, nice review!

  • @EvilWireman I've still not read it yet, I'm afraid. I'll be sure to check it out.

  • What is the first ten seconds of this video from? I swear I've heard that full song before but for the life of me I can't remember what it's from.

  • @NomeoProductions It's "In Search of Lost Legends", the OP theme from Genesis Climber Mospeada.

  • I never expected a Glaswegian to know about Ghost Sweeper. Especially since I moved to Scotland!

I used to watch this every day I came home from primary school. What the hell happened to anime these days? Shit. Now I gotta find a torrent!

  • @PoloniumSmoker Heh, yeah - I think us Mikami fans are probably in the minority around here. I actually only found out about the show after I saw the SNES game reviewed on RetroCore a while back.

  • @Areashiftybun

LONG LIVE THE BEAUTIFUL SENSUAL EXORCIST REIKO MIKAMI! I WANT TO SNIFF HER PANTIES!

  • I really like the review, you just need to work on your presentation. Your voice sounds off and your tone is bland. Get a bit more into and I think youd be great :)

  • I think Latin America gets more Anime than us here at the States, this was release a really long time ago there.

  • @Lobato1987 I'm always amazed at the anime series they get or have previously had on tv in the non-English speaking countries. Especially in France - their "Mangas" channel is pretty cool.

  • From what you've said, there seems to be a huge amount of comparisons between Mikami and Lina Inverse [Slayers]. Actually, there seems to be a lot of comparisons between these two series as a whole...and Slayers NEXT is still one of the best known/watched series of the 90's (with fan subs being plentiful). I'm struggling to see why there'd be difficulty in getting some attention with a little TLC. It'll never get too big a hit, no, but I could see it being a good project.

  • @kirant That's a good point - marketing the show along the same lines as Slayers could well be an effective way to pitch it to the current anime audience.

  • As pointed out Sentai Film works is what ADV has turned into nowadays. There aim hasnt come to show yet. Except it seems to be the same as ADV as befor.

The aim to bring any and all anime to the masses. I apreaciate it as a noble aim and personly thats what i cling onto. I understand its a terrible buisness model and if it wasnt for a recession ADV may very well have went the same way or kept plodding along. Except i cant accept it. I cant accept Naruto and Bleach is now what anime is.

  • I like the intro for this series... Do you know what the instrument or sound in the beginning of the intro where it sounds like a car exhaust or something of the likes?

  • @supercool126 Sorry man, I dunno. I know the part you mean, but I'd always just assumed it was a synth or something like that.

  • @Areashiftybun I'm thinking the same...

  • Sentai Filmworks did it because they're Zombie ADV and thus they're damned to do stupid, stupid shit.

  • @Shadow772craig Heck, I'm still waiting for them to ask the eternal question - "What is Anime?"

  • @Areashiftybun Anime is, what we're making an utter mess of realeaseing, ensuring it never gets a UK release ever!

  • Dood who did this? Powerhouse, not only did he do some 200 chapters of GS Mikami, he's currently doing Zettai Karen Children, which I find hilarious and well writian.

  • it dosen't look that bad, i enjoy watch an old anime every now and then like ranma 1/2 and harlock

  • @ruunya Yeah, I could probably have phrased it better in the review. What can I say, I hope I'm wrong and the series does well for Sentai.

  • As somebody who's experience of Manga/anime is extremely limited, I'd appreciate a recommendation from a decent critic such as you for an introductionary series? Obviously, as a full grown adult, I don't mind adult themes that are relevent to the plot...but my main consideration is a "way in" to really appreciate the genre...suggestions please?

  • @Stereolabdream Hmm, it's always a tough one this - it probably depends a lot on your own tastes in general. My own suggestion would be to start on feature films first as you don't need to invest as much time as you would with a tv series. Akira is fairly well known, but it's a great showcase of what can be achieved in the medium and a great sci-fi film in its own right. I also really rate The Castle of Cagliostro, which is a wonderful, old-fashioned heist movie that everyone should see.

  • @Areashiftybun I didn't realise Hayao Miyazaki's films counted!!! I just love, love love Spirited away, Howl's Moving Castle, Mononoke and Totoro. I've also seen "Battle of the Planets" in its original Gatchaman form. I confess, I haven't seen Castle of Cagliostro. My impression of the genre was that it dealt, however, with even darker themes...

  • @Stereolabdream Aha, yeah - sadly I've still never seen the proper Gatchaman. I can only remember the later version that aired as "Eagle Riders"... If you're familiar with Miyazaki's work though, that's a great starting point. If you're interested in something darker, I definitely recommend either Akira or the first Ghost in the Shell film. GitS isn't always an easy watch, but it certainly gets you thinking. Philip K. Dick would dig it.

  • @Stereolabdream Oh no Anime is similer as much as most programs you will get. You can get Anime that is like a soap (rare) or massive epic spectaculars. the often inbetween comedy or action or drama even a mix of all or some. So you can have the sweet stories of Mayazaki aswell as you can have the comeday/action/Sci Fi shows like Red dwarf with a japanese spin, You have westerns comeday or seriouse. philosphicals. So throw out what your looking for in genre and we can point you in a direction.
