@GeorgeHarrisonLuver1 He was probably just being a crack up. He could also be alluding to paul's ability on the drums. Paul played the drums when the beatles were still the quarrymen. He also played the drums on some of the beatles tracks. Not many of you who are listening to this song probably know this, but ringo didn't play drums on this recording. He played maracas and a session musician by the name of andy white played the drums.

You know I have heard he sucked as a drummer and sometimes Paul used to go back to the studio by himself and re do the drum parts. I dont think he was the best drummer but he was an outrageous dude and they kept him around because of their loyalty. Whatever, he was the drummer of the Beatles and that is how he will go down in history. Good luck to you Ringo where ever you are!!

The two examples I'm thinking of, right at this moment, are Bev Bevan (Carl Wayne and The Vikings, The Move, ELO) and Carl Palmer (The Kingbees, Atomic Rooster, ELP), incidently both are from Birmingham UK, as am I. Drum rolls? they both knew ALL about drum rolls!

Drumming has come a long way since the Beatles. Neither Ringo or any other drummer of his day would know where to begin after taking a seat behind a modern set. It isn't fair to rate Ringo by today's standards; in his day a good drummer was just someone who could keep time.h I'm pushing 60 and in my youth played in a number of bands. If you could keep time, you could be a drummer. Rolls? No one ever heard of such a thing!

@dracoswoman Ringo was miles from the original Beatle, Pete Shotton originally did percussion back when they were called the Quarrymen then Pete Best joined august 1960 replacing shotton, he was then dismissed from the band 1962 two months after their first recording session at Abbey road, It was then that Andy White played as a session musician before Ringo joined august 18th 1962 . :)

Starr had an excellent sense of rhythm, and a "feel" for his instrument. Most amazing to me is the writing abilities of McCartney, and Lennon. This is an outstanding composition, a timeless piece that will still sound good years on. McCartney was very innovative with the bass, and still is.

@terrafirma91 It's wonderful, you can solve lots of doubts regarding who wrote what. There is also a similar one by Ian MacDonald titled "Revolution in the Head", which is much more technical. I prefer the one by Dowdling, although the latter is good as well

Let's not take this out of context. This was a joke made by Lennon referring to the time Ringo walked out during the white album, Paul taking over on two songs. All the Beatles, including John, regarded Ringo as the best drummer in the world. Paul's drumming in those songs (Back in the USSR, and Dear Prudence) was serviceable, but can't be compared to Ringo's.
