  • @nevermindsem waves like these are usually before coastal "shelfs" so the waves break down mega alot before they reach the beach / coastline. :)

  • This is Mike Parsons nd he got paid $60,000 to ride it u fuckin retard

  • jojooooooooo

  • Q - Katie Spain: What is your most memorable surfing experience? (childhood/recent, good or bad -just the one that stands out above the rest)

Parsons: Oh that'll be the wave at Jaws. It's the wave you see me surfing in the beginning of the film Billabong Odyssey. That was a 64 foot wave and, well just watch it, you'll see why it was my most memorable surfing experience.

  • i think EVERYONE should get there facts right cuz ppl r sayin its a diff wave and if u think your right then every1 else would be sayin the same wave as others!! dumbasses

  • all you stupid idiots this is not 80foot its about 50

  • haha no ur an idiot, this is a 70 foot wave dumbass, its been proven by oceanologists who can calculate the size of the wave based on how fast it rises, and how big the face is

  • 80 foot wave from hawaii..billabong odyssey..amazing!!! 80 foot wave from hawaii..billabong odyssey..amazing!!! 80 foot wave from hawaii..billabong odyssey..amazing!!! 80 foot wave from hawaii..billabong odyssey..amazing!!! 80 foot wave from hawaii..billabong odyssey..amazing!!! 80 foot wave from hawaii..billabong odyssey..amazing!!! 80 foot wave from hawaii..billabong odyssey..amazing!!! 80 foot wave from hawaii..billabong odyssey..amazing!!! 80 foot wave from hawaii..billabong odyssey..amazing

  • Okay, once again....this is Mike Parsons in the opening scene of the surfing film "Billabong Odyssey" on a 65+ ft. wave 100 miles off of the California coast at a place called the Cortes Bank. Cortes Bank is a chain of underwater mountains in the Pacific Ocean.

  • And here's a direct quote about the mountain peaks under the water there: "The chain of peaks is about 18 miles (30 kilometers) long and they rise from the ocean floor about 1/2 mile (about 1 km) down. Some of the peaks come to just 20 feet (6 meters) below the surface. The peaks are a hazard to shipping, but help create a noted big-wave surfing spot."

  • No dude it's not Cortes. It's Peahi(Jaws), Maui. This is from the Tow-in cup there that was shown in the Billabong Oddysey.

  • this is Jaws (Peahi) from Billabong Odyssey - get your facts right. And it was 66 foot. At the tow-in comp

  • Apparently the facts that I originally got on this were incorrect. You and Earl are correct. It is indeed the infamous Jaws. My bad. I was going on information put out by so-called "experts" a year ago who somehow insisted it was Cortes Banks.

  • pasu machu!

  • Cool... Animal!

  • he is duuuuude

  • This guy is fearless.i guess he isnt afraid to die

  • balls of steel people....balls of steel lol

  • 80 foot wave from hawaii..billabong odyssey..amazing!!!

  • yes

  • HE STILL A LIVE??

  • oo fuck that was amazing !!!

  • laird,you´re god !!!

  • awesome wave... but this is NOT Laird guys...

  • HOLY SHITE!!!!!!!

  • It's actually from a movie Billabong put out called Odyssey. They had to helicopter out like 120 miles off shore and these waves only come once every couple years. It's not fake. It's ridiculously real.

  • Holy shit they moved jaws?? This will be a real big disappointment to those of us who live here.

Maybe if you actually watch the movie it will all become clear.

  • ha ha, respect

  • Some very good looking waves over in the enchanted land is the water really cold?

  • Ya we had massive 40+ swells over last few wks, crazy waves. The water isnt too bad, it goes down to round 8 or 9 degrees c in feb. were used to it, id say it would be some shock to ye

  • made me shake just thinking about it. I don't even own a wetsuit. respect right back at ya..

  • ya ive only surfed without a wetsuit a few times and that was in the south of france!! NEVER in ireland.

  • I'm spoiled and I guess its because we can stay in the water for hours and not get too cold. The problem is rash. The warm water makes the skin too soft and board rash sets in. That kind of stuff didn't bother me when I was young but now I'm old.

  • hash666: This is bull shit, this footage is copyright protected and it's not Laird remove it

    please.

  • copywrong

  • Shut up man, thats fake, look at it. its shit!

  • not fake

  • q ola tan pequeña jajaja

  • why does that guy only go down the wave? why not go across? im not a huge surfer, i wish i was but i dont live anywhere near a beach, but i am trying to learn, slowly every time i get chance. so yeah, please help

  • Its not fake you idiots.

  • anyone have any idea what sort of speed he would be doing whilst riding that mother?

  • Fake

  • not fake

  • anyway..neither Jaws nor Cortes Bank has the biggest (continuous) waves on earth...they´ve reacently discovered 80 feet monsters in southern Chile close to Cape Horn!!!

  • I believe this is 100 miles off the coast of San Diego California. There's a seamount out there, and I saw a video similar to this where a guy surfs a 60 foot wave. There's no beach, it's just sea out there.

  • wrong: Jaws/Maui

  • I´ve seen it in "riding giants".. this is mike parsons at CORTES BANK, which is about 100 miles off the coast of san diego. the wave was 66 feet and is still the record for the largest wave ever ridden.

  • anyway...neither Jaws nor Cortes Bank has the biggest continuous waves on earth..they´ve reacently discovered

80 feet monsters in Chile close to Cape Horn!!!

  • Watch "Billabong Odyssey" and be informed.

Remember "Riding Giants" came out after "Odyssey". Oh yeah and

"Eh brah" I live Haiku, 2 miles from Peahi (Jaws).

  • computer says no........

  • the wave is huge but the camera angle makes it seem much bigger than it really is

  • THIS IS NOT LAIRD THIS CLIP WAS STOLEN FROM BILLABONG ODDSSEY. hash666 is a rip off artist

  • whre is this¿? thank you

  • thats not fake

  • noceas paloma!

  • that is literally insane

  • Este hijueputa desgraciado ES LO MAXIMO!

  • Estas loco chaval pero esas olas te cambian la vida sigue asi k yo kiero llegar a ser como tu

  • fake? omg!

    this is real!

  • Who ever thinks this is fake is has lost a lot of brain cells along the way. This is the real deal.

  • fake

  • dumb twat.

  • wow

  • semplicemente grande

  • mad respect.

  • wow......

  • oha

  • he's the chillest guy alive. my brother is good friends with him and hes a fly ass dude.

  • Thats an outer reef break called Jaws on the hawaiian island of Maui.

  • is this person at the pipeline on oahu? looks just like it far out. and i think that they are taping this on a big boat or a chopper.

  • Incredible. It's like an avalanche when it comes down. Is the cameraman in a helicopter? Where is this? I would like to visit, although I definitely won't be going in!

  • No Fear

  • how the hell does one keep his cool in a situation like that? Props to this psycho.

  • Probably cuz you don't have any choice but to keep your cool when the monster wave is bearing down on you like that. Its not like you have the option of bailing out and and hitting the brakes midway through.

  • the best part about this was it was his 2nd attempt at it the first he got dumped and was held underwater for 2 mins then he got up and did it again

  • If that is true, Parsons has to be the best big wave rider. 2 minutes while in the washing machine is crazy! People can hold their breath for longer in pools etc. but not in a situation like that, your body uses O2 rapidly and you run out of breath fast. I know this because I almost drown in early 80's at HB during huge storm, 20+ monster closeouts, hit by white water and actually gave up. Somehow surfaced long enough to get air, then back down again. I will never do it again!!

  • GREAT!!!

  • hhhhhhhhhh

  • thats me!!!

  • omg i just did this and it totally works!!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • you're lame

  • jesus

  • I would personally support you if your usage of others property was done as social entrepreneurship (I wound not care whether or not you credited the corporate source). Example: using McDonalds advertising footage in a parody.

  • To get a quicker response: Reply to one of his comments (hash666)

  • Holy crap! That's some fine surfing!

  • both ill riders, but this is mike parsons, not laird hamilton

  • Credit the filmmaker or I report copyright infringement. I know who produced it; I saw it in the theaters and bought a copy on DVD.

  • What a waste of time to report something like this. Are you serious? it´s like less than 2 min. i mean are you a cop or something? There´s no way you will get paid for being a rat or anything.

  • Yes, I am serious. I am not a cop. I seek and desire no re numeration. I simply am personally alarmed at how freely copy writ creative property is used (especially here on you tube) without as much as a cursory mention of its source. I believe you would still be in violation of the law in using it without permission but I (and perhaps others like myself) would not be inclined to call authority attention to your transgressions provided you credit the original artist(s).

  • Can't argue with that of course, but some of these people are just kids they don't know all the details of law and order when they put things like this on the web...or perhaps it's just plain stupid ignorance who knows...

  • tubeneophyte:

Don't fret over the comments you get here. One must always consider the audience.

To clarify; It is unlikely that any of the opposing force have ever accomplished anything close to production of a movie.

It is also a possibility that these "people" have never left their homes, and have "hot pockets" shipped direct to their bedside microwave. Some friends of mine at Arenaplex made this film and they aren't hurting for money, but all in, "A thief is a thief"

  • "Tubeneophyte", you're just a small, or even tiny weiner. Don't piss your pants about it! Everybody who searches for "Laird Hamilton" on YouTube knows where this footage is from. But it is nice of this dude to put it on the net for us. You dirty little weinerworm!

  • Wicked? I'm talking mad wicked... SICK. Laird, I'm not worthy.

  • That is just insane-but what a rush!

  • FUCKING AWESOME!

  • JEBOTE

  • This wave is like 30 meters man. billabong odysey!

  • how big do u reckon that wave is?

  • thats fake, just kidding its totally real

    insane

  • hmm it was on da newz

  • and your point is? Or was that just a mindless comment of no value to the world at large?

  • lolz, i can see an underwater mountain, xD (just kidding).

  • who can tell me is this guy is alive after this wave??

  • its a tsunamii

  • your mom's tits are fake

  • yeah this is fake.... this would have been all over the news... the biggest wave is mike parsons at 66 feet but at the beginning the wave u can tell is fake... this would have been alll over the world especially in surf towns... a new world record but the only place u see this is on youtube

  • Its not fake, get the "Billabong Odessey" dvd

  • ....this is mike parson's wave at cortes bank
