This is the true moment where time splits dimentions. It COULD END THERE! and Trelkovsky could have nestled away... It's Isabelle Adjani, you fool! But we know what happens....
This is the beauty of dialog. No where does Stella actually connect with him. Nothing is agreed upon but he is in the hands of the most beautiful girl in the world saying, "And I love YOU ... We'll have our own set then.... Crescents.. Stay here... we'll eat in or go out to a restaurant... If you like. .. " The stupid fool!
In "Chinatown", Roman makes a cameo of a tough guy who is sent to catch J.J. Gittes who is investigating in a forbiden area, the detective played by Jack. Roman sticks a knife in Gittes´s nose-Do you know what happen to nosy fellows?-he asks and cuts the nose off.
There is an interesting parallel between little Patrick being completely pampered and catered to by this woman and Trelkovski being completely pampered by Stella. He is disgusted by and slapping himself, though it appears he doesn't fully know it in this action.
the boy said his name was Patrick-when the woman asked him. His boat got away from him. Trelkovski (Polanski) was in his Simone mode when he goes up and slaps the kid
Polanski should have done more acting, he is so good, the most memorable scene in Chinatown was his cameo and his performance in this film is top notch.
Indeed, the best scene for me in the movie is the first showed on this vid, and yet, still dont understand the meaning of the "filthy little brat" slap, by the way, just watched this movie 'casue a song of Skinny Puppy "The Choke - Bites"
I never got why he slapped the girl. But then I've never seen the movie. LOL I have no idea who the girl was or what the context was around the scene.
I think it's a boy, actually. But this film is full of symbolism of all sorts - which I love. Seems that most films of today are movies in which everything shown has a direct link to action or plot. The slapping scene to me just shows the irony of a man who is scared out of his wits, who should be meek and in need of help. It's as if he's saying, "Look kid, you don't know what trouble is."
Yeah, Charlie Chaplin had too much make up, too. He couldn't act either. He was a real Nobody. Yeah, I'd place these two right next to some wiz like Keanu Reeves in that epic The Matrix. Now to that, we should all stand in awe.
I might be Jean Michel Jarre's doppleganger for all I know. Yeah, maybe I should worship Julie Delphi or Julianna Rose Mauriello, she's coming of age soon.
i first saw this movie at a friend's house, it blew me away... really really good!!! directly after the movie i saw another one "mulholland drive"... a highly recommended movie, what a disappointed that was, it shrunk in comparison to the tenant... or is it maybe because i saw the tenant first?
I love it when the big guy has Roman over to his apartment, cranks up the phonogragh and starts marching around. Then completely disrespects his neighbor for complaining.
Thanks for reminding me; I couldn't quite remember the line.
I must say I must have been influenced subliminally by this scene. I have been a terror of a tenant. I mean ROCK-BAND-practicing-in-the-living-room terror. Life and gigs only come around once. Get 'er done. Sieze the day. The world is my oyster! Death is VERY quiet.
this was from some video tape i have that was partly erased. can YOU post the scenes of the guy who says,"Hey, asshole, let's go to the park and get a blowjob!"
Check previous posts for "slappin the kid" (Patrick) meanings...

Other than showing the change of Polanski why does he slap the kid? Any insight would be appreciated.

No wonder Dostoevsky is in my favorites. Lisavetta. It's girl love gone tragic.

I DO agree. Romans speech about his bodyparts being a part of him or vice versa is my favourite movie quote ever.
-What right has my head to call itself me?
Wonderful...
Excuse my bad english, if you find it bad.

Polanski is sick, he and his movies are just perverse. The end of culture.
