@sallison4314 The bands had little to do with it. They way they were presented was controlled mainly by their managers and by whoever was doing the broadcasting. Sound engineering was pretty primitive back then and the folks doing production generally weren't familiar with how to set the sound up for decent broadcast. The audiences may in fact have been seeing and hearing a live performance but what got shown on television, most of the time, was quite different.

So why did so many bands back then lip sync recordings of their songs? Were they afraid that a live performance could never measure up?
