The problem is not the shutter. These little consumer cameras do not have a registration pin in the movement, therefore each frame is not perfectly aligned. Personally I like the look of the jerky movement. It gives it that old 16mm look. I love how mine does that.
The problem with jumping image can not be fixed. I had the camera for repair 3 times and no result. My anger was great. Krasnogorsk has perfect optics, but the mechanism is a waste. Made in the USSR:))
@ELENDsun That's the problem with K-3's. Unless you're willing to buy one from an outfit like Reel Image or K3camera.com. it's a crap shoot. unfortunately more often then not you end up with the crap. I've gone through so many K-3's, it's not even funny. I'd love to know how Spike Lee gets his to cooperate with him, because not even threatening to sell it for a Bolex has convinced mine to behave :)
Hi please don't remove the loop formers, they often are stiff but try to press down the black button that touches the door if they move then leave them because one day you will loose 30ft of film! Try making the loops a little smaller otherwise the problem is the gate and/ or claw the shutter is fine. Make sure the claw is not damaged and make sure the gate sits positively. Believe me the designers of this camera knew what they were doing so don't mod the loop formers, cheers
Hi: I'm getting the exact same issue with my K3. Used to work fine, now this happens. Do you have your loop formers still in place? I do and am considering removing them to see if this helps. Great telecine by the way! May I ask who did it for you? Thanks!
@FanMadMovies Yes that's true, but the camera would still have the problem, and I wouldn't be confident e shooting something knowing it may have to be deshaked.
@FanMadMovies I've used Smoothcam in Final Cut Pro on some Super 8 footage with reasonable results although it does soften the image. I doubt it would fix the problem I'm illustrating which is quite a savage vertical jerk. Realistically there shouldn't be any image instability in a properly set up 16mm camera. I don't have After Effects & would have to buy a new computer to be able to install it. Would like to see how it works with jumpy Super 8 footage.
@x05e t has the loop formers, which seem stiff. I've been told that they might be the cause of the image jumping. When I'm ready to shoot some more film I will definitely remove them. They are not necessary anyway.
Telecine was done at Video 8, Sydney. I sat in on the transfer. They have an old Rank telecine machine & went to tape & then transferred to my USB flash drive.

Possible stabilization with after effects CS4 , Very easy stabilization with this software.

@FanMadMovies Stabilization of the software is good, but the picture is cropped, enlarged and lose resolution.
