@xTheyCallMeJohn Normally, for car drivers, the earliest date your provisional licence can become valid is your 17th birthday. You can apply for the licence up to three months before your 17th birthday however, you will still have to wait until your birthday before you can take your theory test.
So glad I past, knowing I can just get in a car without having to have lessons now, not that I can afford car insurance as i'm getting quotes of £8000, surely with the test becoming more harder over the years it should of made less idiotic drivers, but the insurance companies say otherwise
I failed my test yesterday because some idiot in a white car just came out of no where and I mean no where, I looked both ways and because it was all clear I pulled out and this white car just suddenly appeared. I should have looked twice but if that came didn't pull out I would have passed! Oh well. I think I will pass on my 2nd try.
dsa examiners do not know the correct meaning of the appropriate traffic lane at junction ahead sign. ask any examiner if the sign is mandatory and they cannot answer for legal reasons. therfore they have no right 2 take u on a route with this sign. "Id like u 2 follow the road ahead at all times unless the road signs road markings or i tell u otherwise..." If a buslane is out of hours it is not a serious fault 2 still use rightlane even if clear as u r following the advice of highwaycode
all good passing your test, i passed last december, but the governmet needs to do something about insurance for young drivers, because i paid £2k for mine which took me ages to save up and its only TPF&T. i recommend charging 1k for insurance with an excess of £1k therefore safe drivers benefit and bad drivers will end up paying the £2k if they crash and it's their fault
in the first test i just got 1 tick in gear which i missed the gear when i did reverse corner. today i got 11 ticks in the control part. the examiner said i changed the gear so slow and he gave me 4 ticks and 1 serious. if different examiners have different standard, i just need to pray before the next exam. it is completely nonsense! what is DSA's standard on this?
Guees what ? 10 years that I have Brazilian driving licence in 10 years I never ever had a penalty . I failed in my test here I cant to accept this because the examiner say that I parked in a junction and its no true , in the independent driving I should turn left in a road but I confused a company entrance I slowed down indicated but I see wanst a road , I cancelled indication and speed up , I just miss the rounter and the examiner failed me , why? I live in Rugby warwickshire
I passed the 2nd time. Where as before i had a serious fault on Judgement - Meeting. I was trying to move over to the gap in between the cars but the examiner reckoned i was going head to head with a white van and i narrowly missed a scratch. That was done last October 2010. This year; i had the same minor faults and missed the serious and dangerous faults. It was inexplicable for me to witness a pass mark at the end of the test. That was marked at Colwick, in Nottingham.
If people went through life learning what not to do in tests the world would be an even crapper place! If ya do your exams to be a doctor etc they don't sit you down and say, 'right, please list all the things you should not do'! Life isn't like that. Learn how to drive and use your common sense on what NOT to do! I passed my test a few months ago and think ya should just get on with it and stop moaning.
What I wanna know is what are all the minor falts. I want a video listing them all. Then listing the serious falts, all of them. That is the only true video watching that will aid anybody in their practical test... Any driving instructors reading this, I'm sure if you made a video explaining ALL OF THEM, and put it to your personal site it would get more hits via google. Just an idea...
I like how the video states 'on average you need 45 hours of professional lessons'. Hmm at the rate I was going with my 1st instructor, I'd still be learning after 75! (I passed 4 weeks ago WITH another instructor).
@jigo53 If you failed you must have made a mistake/mistakes. Keep trying, don't let it turn you bitter. You'll only be a better, safer driver. I'm sure you'd pass being a good, safe driver, than be given your licence and then make a fatal mistake that ends someone's life or injures yourself or someone else. I'm sure you'll pass soon, learn from your mistakes and keep trying. Good luck.
Why is the controlled (emergency) stop only in 1 out of 3 tests? Should it not be in ither all, or no tests? Just curious as to why it only happens to certain people.
Help is here for learner drivers. Go to Facebook and look up 'I can't wait to pass my driving test' and you'll find a page with tips and advice, and discussion boards to chat to instructors and other learners. If you're on twitter you can also chat to Liz_DSA for pointers to advice.
the provisional driving license is just a way of getting more money of people... simple. really speaking, it isnt required... you should be able to just turn up, show your passport as id, and then start driving, have your theory, and then have your test
whats next, taking a test on a race track using one hand and while shooting at a target...... it seams like these morons at the dsa think making a test harder and cost more, will make idiot drivers into better and more considerate drivers after doing a extended test ! we young people need a license to get a JOB, we have not got alot of money as we have not got a decent job, as we have no license as we cant afford it (catch 22) make those idiots do a extended test, if they are dangerous, after
Failed due to Ind't D'g today (Oct 15, 2010)! Those having to go through ID route, REMEMBER: its safer to miss the destination than to miss a sign for an approaching roundabout WHILE driving at NSL (national speed limit).
Take it easy. its allowed to miss the target but nothing else (what a stupid test-criterion) !!!!!!!!!!!!!
@raniisc14 Independent driving is not a test of your orientation and navigation skills. It's designed to assess your ability to drive safely while making decisions independently.
Remember, if you ask for a reminder of the directions, the examiner will confirm them to you.
If you go off the independent driving route it won’t affect the result of your test unless you commit a driving fault.
I jst dnt understand y u need da provisional licence first? Is it lyk dat everywhere? If how can dey allow me to drive " wiv sum1s supervision" wiv out any lessons?
I thought we no longer needed to take the appointment letter with us? This changed around 2 months ago....why does this video say we still need it?
Also, the video says we will do a PARALLEL PARK either on the road or into a bay at the test centre.....surely that should be a reverse park - parallel park is only applicable on the road, the one at the test centre is a BAY park!
@pjprocker hi, dont worry about not knowing the directions, to me the new test may be easier.During your test you’ll have to drive independently by either following:•traffic signs•a series of directions•a combination of both
To help you understand where you are going when following verbal directions, the examiner will show you a diagram. It doesn't matter if you don't remember every direction, or if you go the wrong way - that can happen to the most experienced drivers.

@Squiffilect No - the vehicle safety questions - sometimes called 'show me, tell me' - will still be in the test from October. You'll still be asked one 'show me' question, and one 'tell me question'. One or both questions answered incorrectly will result in one driving fault being recorded.

@dsagov How many driving faults are you allowed to get before you fail the test , and in the practical what is the pass mark my instructor said it was 43 is this correct ?
mcwhizzkid123 3 months ago
@mcwhizzkid123 You can make up to 15 driving faults and still pass the test. If you make 16 or more driving faults, you won't pass your test.
If you make one serious or dangerous fault, you won't pass your test.
The pass mark for the multiple-choice part of the theory test is 43 out of 50, and 44 out of 75 for the hazard perception part.
