  • theory on thursday :D

  • Yes! I passed my practical exam. Thank you

  • I passes my test , 3rd time lucky! never give up : )

  • dsa

  • A examiner said to me a few months ago that crossing hands and even palming the wheel was okay as long as pupil had control. But I wouldnt teach it.

  • @kdark54 no, crossing hands in not allowed as it us inefficiency

  • My driving instructor was telling me that it is okay to cross hands now, just wanting to see if that is true or not. Thank you.

  • How old do you have to be to get your test ..? 17 or 18..?

  • @xTheyCallMeJohn Normally, for car drivers, the earliest date your provisional licence can become valid is your 17th birthday. You can apply for the licence up to three months before your 17th birthday however, you will still have to wait until your birthday before you can take your theory test.

  • @xTheyCallMeJohn 17, I got mine tomorrow

  • 2:35 i keep playing it agian and agian!

  • So glad I past, knowing I can just get in a car without having to have lessons now, not that I can afford car insurance as i'm getting quotes of £8000, surely with the test becoming more harder over the years it should of made less idiotic drivers, but the insurance companies say otherwise

  • Passed my driving test today whoooooohooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait to get my first car very soon (-_-)

  • Im going to have my test at 9:30 am arrgghh wish me or luck xDDDD

  • I failed my test yesterday because some idiot in a white car just came out of no where and I mean no where, I looked both ways and because it was all clear I pulled out and this white car just suddenly appeared. I should have looked twice but if that came didn't pull out I would have passed! Oh well. I think I will pass on my 2nd try.

  • YOU ARE NOT PREPARED

  • test tomorrow at 1.40 am getting nervous cant sleep too

  • @izy51 how did it go?

  • dsa examiners do not know the correct meaning of the appropriate traffic lane at junction ahead sign. ask any examiner if the sign is mandatory and they cannot answer for legal reasons. therfore they have no right 2 take u on a route with this sign. "Id like u 2 follow the road ahead at all times unless the road signs road markings or i tell u otherwise..." If a buslane is out of hours it is not a serious fault 2 still use rightlane even if clear as u r following the advice of highwaycode

  • I just passed my theory test today!!! So proud of myself :)

48/50 for multiple question and 55/75 for hazard perception

As long as u study hard, go in wiv confidence and u will be fine Xx

    Good luck 2 every1

  • 15 faults in the UK? Here in BG, if you make 3 mistakes = fail!

BTW: I hated the thing about (no music in the car). I love my rock'n'roll in the car.

  • passed :P

  • all good passing your test, i passed last december, but the governmet needs to do something about insurance for young drivers, because i paid £2k for mine which took me ages to save up and its only TPF&T. i recommend charging 1k for insurance with an excess of £1k therefore safe drivers benefit and bad drivers will end up paying the £2k if they crash and it's their fault

  • @HTFCbarmyarmyHTFC I agree with you 100% It's ridiculous! What car have you got btw?

  • i fail the second time today.

in the first test i just got 1 tick in gear which i missed the gear when i did reverse corner. today i got 11 ticks in the control part. the examiner said i changed the gear so slow and he gave me 4 ticks and 1 serious. if different examiners have different standard, i just need to pray before the next exam. it is completely nonsense! what is DSA's standard on this?

  • okay

  • Guees what ? 10 years that I have Brazilian driving licence in 10 years I never ever had a penalty . I failed in my test here I cant to accept this because the examiner say that I parked in a junction and its no true , in the independent driving I should turn left in a road but I confused a company entrance I slowed down indicated but I see wanst a road , I cancelled indication and speed up , I just miss the rounter and the examiner failed me , why? I live in Rugby warwickshire

  • I passed my driving today! Good luck for everyone else...

  • just passed yesterday first time after 18 hours with an instructor :D

  • @Ovlanx yeah right...

  • I passed the 2nd time. Where as before i had a serious fault on Judgement - Meeting. I was trying to move over to the gap in between the cars but the examiner reckoned i was going head to head with a white van and i narrowly missed a scratch. That was done last October 2010. This year; i had the same minor faults and missed the serious and dangerous faults. It was inexplicable for me to witness a pass mark at the end of the test. That was marked at Colwick, in Nottingham.

  • @MF033D how u pass 2 time there show u the same road or different road

  • Got my test tomorrow, eeek!

  • Hayes, middlesex test centre has low pass rate!!

  • i've got my test in less than 3 hours, Im praying God will allow me to pass...shall post back feedback here come pass or failure.

  • @Choccoqueen well did you pass

  • 45 lessons, im sorry what

  • hm....

  • not fair i did my test and 3 fault ... i failed coz the car rolled down in hill start :(

  • i dident know they have marks on the practical 2 soo you cont more than 15 wrong

  • I need help quick. I've got all my maneuvers spot on but I can't quite get my burnouts right. Any tips?

  • passed mine today with 10minors :) so damn happy no more tests for me wohoooooooooooooo!!!

  • i got mine also next month it in the after where the school open their gate to let the kids out my god be on my side

  • l got mine next month so early at 810 am ho god help me

  • @fakeplasticshrimp

    Get a grip!

If people went through life learning what not to do in tests the world would be an even crapper place! If ya do your exams to be a doctor etc they don't sit you down and say, 'right, please list all the things you should not do'! Life isn't like that. Learn how to drive and use your common sense on what NOT to do! I passed my test a few months ago and think ya should just get on with it and stop moaning.

  • What I wanna know is what are all the minor falts. I want a video listing them all. Then listing the serious falts, all of them. That is the only true video watching that will aid anybody in their practical test... Any driving instructors reading this, I'm sure if you made a video explaining ALL OF THEM, and put it to your personal site it would get more hits via google. Just an idea...

  • @FakePlasticShrimp

I like how the video states 'on average you need 45 hours of professional lessons'. Hmm at the rate I was going with my 1st instructor, I'd still be learning after 75! (I passed 4 weeks ago WITH another instructor).

  • i failed again

    same examiner

    same pig

    *sigh*

  • @jigo53 If you failed you must have made a mistake/mistakes. Keep trying, don't let it turn you bitter. You'll only be a better, safer driver. I'm sure you'd pass being a good, safe driver, than be given your licence and then make a fatal mistake that ends someone's life or injures yourself or someone else. I'm sure you'll pass soon, learn from your mistakes and keep trying. Good luck.

  • @jigo53 hope you've passed now!

  • I PASSED TODAY AT 7:43 AND I MAKE 8 MINORS

ALL YOU NEED IS TO CHECK ALL THE MIRRORS

  • Why is the controlled (emergency) stop only in 1 out of 3 tests? Should it not be in ither all, or no tests? Just curious as to why it only happens to certain people.

  • Help is here for learner drivers. Go to Facebook and look up 'I can't wait to pass my driving test' and you'll find a page with tips and advice, and discussion boards to chat to instructors and other learners. If you're on twitter you can also chat to Liz_DSA for pointers to advice.

  • the provisional driving license is just a way of getting more money of people... simple. really speaking, it isnt required... you should be able to just turn up, show your passport as id, and then start driving, have your theory, and then have your test

  • whats next, taking a test on a race track using one hand and while shooting at a target...... it seams like these morons at the dsa think making a test harder and cost more, will make idiot drivers into better and more considerate drivers after doing a extended test ! we young people need a license to get a JOB, we have not got alot of money as we have not got a decent job, as we have no license as we cant afford it (catch 22) make those idiots do a extended test, if they are dangerous, after

  • Failed due to Ind't D'g today (Oct 15, 2010)! Those having to go through ID route, REMEMBER: its safer to miss the destination than to miss a sign for an approaching roundabout WHILE driving at NSL (national speed limit).

Take it easy. its allowed to miss the target but nothing else (what a stupid test-criterion) !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @raniisc14 Independent driving is not a test of your orientation and navigation skills. It's designed to assess your ability to drive safely while making decisions independently.

Remember, if you ask for a reminder of the directions, the examiner will confirm them to you.

If you go off the independent driving route it won’t affect the result of your test unless you commit a driving fault.

  • OH GOD, IM GOING TO FAIL :'(

  • @samwinchestersgf You'll be alright. Keep practicing and keep studying. Practice makes perfect.

  • just 1 reverse maneouver...

i hope i don't get parallel parking tomorrow

    X_X

  • I jst dnt understand y u need da provisional licence first? Is it lyk dat everywhere? If how can dey allow me to drive " wiv sum1s supervision" wiv out any lessons?

  • Maybe cos its da sme principle, u jst gtta imagine tht ure on da round. But the instructor can tell if ur doing it ryt or wrng cos dey got experience

  • I thought we no longer needed to take the appointment letter with us? This changed around 2 months ago....why does this video say we still need it?

Also, the video says we will do a PARALLEL PARK either on the road or into a bay at the test centre.....surely that should be a reverse park - parallel park is only applicable on the road, the one at the test centre is a BAY park!

  • I passed 1 week before this came into force with 3 minors! I think if I was sitting this test, I'd never pass.....

  • i faild my pratical on two stupid things this morning, so am going to have to do the new test, i can't remember that many directions.

  • @pjprocker hi, dont worry about not knowing the directions, to me the new test may be easier.During your test you’ll have to drive independently by either following:•traffic signs•a series of directions•a combination of both

To help you understand where you are going when following verbal directions, the examiner will show you a diagram. It doesn't matter if you don't remember every direction, or if you go the wrong way - that can happen to the most experienced drivers.

  • i failed today's practical test..only 1 serious fault.!damn this inconsiderate driver examiner!they should have put into consideration..

  • I have been a driving instructor for many years and have been trying this ever since the idea was first suggested 2 years ago in September 2008. I've yet to find a single pupil that can remember 3 directions and follow them. I have asked all my friends who are instructors and it's the same everywhere.

This is just a silly memory game to play with the examiners, it won't help people one bit. When do you ever have to remember 3 directions while driving? It's pointless.

  • @turrican1900 Thats what a sat navs for LOL

  • I passed my practical test this morning! im so happy and was worried id have to do the independant driving, because i thought i was going to fail. But if you are confident and concentrate it will b ok :) Good luck to everyone who is going to or is doing their tests :)

  • Can anyone tell me the driving license requirement for international students having no international driving permit.

  • New way of minting money.

I am sure in this country, they will make driving test so difficult that it will be easy to get a Pilots license than a drivers license.

The process is already so expensive, and mostly young people go through this process who don't have that much cash. This is discrimination against young and poor.

The DSA should first set a limit to driving class fee. No driving instructor should be able to charge more than £20/Hr and DSA should reduce the test fees to £40!

  • @1DesiKing I completely agree. I can't afford to fail. And the theory test is scandalous. 62 quid for a computer marked multiple choice quiz, and to pass it, you need to buy a book which casts 20 quid. Gah!

As for making it easy- Britain has some of the safest roads in Europe, and yet because of the EU driving licence, I could go to Italy, tick some boxes and get a UK valid licence for a percent of the effort.

  • @tfsahaodj The theory test for cars is £31 when you book direct with DSA through the Directgov website.

  • @dsagov Ta for the rapid response. I'm going to stand by my argument that this is a scandalous cost for a tiny outlay, small overheads, and a service which I don't doubt is also subsidised by my taxes (and if not, should be).

  • Doesn't matter how well you drive on the day, you'll be failed for another road users/pedestrians mistake anyway. Such is the way of the DSA.

Bet this won't get approved either as it doesn't sing the DSAs praises...

  • @Woozie52 Love that post! The DSA is just the worst, I'm so glad that once I've passed I won't have to have anything else to do with them.

  • @Woozie52 Yes, you have to think for allll the other drivers who are speeding and not paying attention. It is not fair these days. The insuranche is absolute nonsence! They don't want ung people's business because of the irrisponsibe teens crashing & dieing. £2,250 a year! It's a joke!

  • @danny031091

yea main reason why i didn't bother getting my licence until i was 21-22 even then its over priced for a 1997 1.3 fiesta my cheapest quote was £2300 but for my 2.9 Volvo 960 its £1400 guess its becuase new drivers dont wrap them selves around trees too often in volvos.

  • @Woozie52

isn't the the point here, that you should still be able to deal with road users/pedestrians mistakes ?

  • 15 Driving faults, thats gone up!

  • @Zeamus634 no its the same

  • Seems easier than before.. You only have to do one of the manoeuvres? I did two in mine, will they still ask the person sitting to do more than one?

  • @clix101 no from 4th oct 10 the requirement is onli 1, yes thats easier but independant driving for a learner can be very daunting.

  • Has the "Show me, tell me" part of the test been dropped?

  • @Squiffilect No - the vehicle safety questions - sometimes called 'show me, tell me' - will still be in the test from October. You'll still be asked one 'show me' question, and one 'tell me question'. One or both questions answered incorrectly will result in one driving fault being recorded.

  • @dsagov How many driving faults are you allowed to get before you fail the test , and in the practical what is the pass mark my instructor said it was 43 is this correct ?

  • @mcwhizzkid123 You can make up to 15 driving faults and still pass the test. If you make 16 or more driving faults, you won't pass your test.

If you make one serious or dangerous fault, you won't pass your test.

The pass mark for the multiple-choice part of the theory test is 43 out of 50, and 44 out of 75 for the hazard perception part.

  • @dsagov Ok thankyou for your help !!

  • @Squiffilect The video shows the learner checking under the bonnet, so the show me tell me still applies, i have received an email which states the lesson time will remain the same and the fees also remain the same,
