Grande Bepi.
now THAT is a dramatic tenor. giacomini and vinay are the only ones I've seen who trully do this role justice. all the other ones are poser lyric tenors who don't have powerful voices
Giacomini certainly had the power, timbre and sheer thrust for the role. But his high notes are wobbly at best, at worst strained. Maybe he was better in this role earlier in his career -- if so, would like to hear recordings from that period.
Actually Giacomini is an Enigma. His high notes were at times amazing hugely powerful and well balanced up to a C#. If you watch Si Pel Ciel with Sherril milnes yo will see his power and even on the High A at the end which always was Milnes money note Giacomini practically drowns him out. unfortunately Giacomini's voice was tempermental in any given night he could nail every note or wobble on every high note!
MF

sorry-he's sung better than this... this was pitchy and not according to the score as to breathing. Not what one expects from this tenor, who despite having the misfortune of adopting the Melocci method, usually produced a good sound, that is when pp was required. He barked a lot less than MDM-another Melocci casualty.
@vickersman You must be misinformed.DelMonaco was never a casualty of the Melocchi method, He was the best example of it& had a great career with many SIGNATUREroles such as,over 400 performances of Otello.Forza Chenier Aida Pagliacci Carmen Ernani were also other great accomplishments.MDM had excellent diction phrasing& was a master in the recitative.MDM sang for over 30years.Hardly a casualty in any stretch of the imagination. He also had the ability to thrill the public in his declining years.

fare un acuto simile con "uragano"
è incredibilmente difficile.
