Yeah, what's up? As a U2 fan of many years, I've heard performances of this song ranging from spectacular to poor. This is really bad by U2 standards. It sounds like Bono's drunk or disinterested. Does he not remember the words to this song he's performed 1000's of times? He's all over the place on this one. He should watch Rattle and Hum to remind himself how he once sang this tune.

The reason Bono sings this song like this is to give himself a breather. U notice he gives new songs everything. But he needs to pace himself so he can do the whole tour and save his voice. So he chooses certain songs where he can talk his way through and get away with it

The problem with more recent U2 is they started "Americanizing" their sound. Beautiful Day, Vertigo, Get On Your Boots, Magnificent... etc. They try to be more 'catchy', and not passionate like they used to be. Bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin never did that. U2 had a great sound in the 80's, and even recreated themselves in the 90's, but now they seem to be going with the flow, taking an easier way out. I agree with your thoughts on the album and this performance... just not good.

You've completely misinterpreted the point. Obviously Zeppelin was gunning for American audiences or else they would not have toured in America as often as they did! I'm talking about their SOUND. You're right, every band experiments, but U2 in that case took a wrong turn in my opinion, because towards the latter part of the 90's they made their music more 'poppy', more techno-like... this therefore makes today's U2 more redundant. Zeppelin at least stayed themselves while experimenting.

Zoo TV he did it differently, but still pretty well. Popmart he couldn't do it well because his voice had trouble, but so far in the the 21st century he hasn't done it right, except maybe Sao Paolo in 06', but other than that he hasn't really done it "right". Not only is their new album possibly my least favourite from them, but they fail to do one of their best songs the "right" way and probably only care about making sure their new stuff is "perfect".
