Better do it right in one go and go for the MPC1000 instead if you're going the MPC route. The MPC500 is a bastard child you don't want to make music with, esp. when MPC1000 with JJ-OS is a thousand times more useful. Of course, you could also just buy a Korg PadKontrol and stick with software, Reason (or another DAW) and midi keyboard controller (Yamaha KX-49 comes highly recommended).
