  • Their job was inspecting the bridge, but who's job is it to inspect the cherry-picker?? Someone who's probably (not "prolly") unemployed now....

  • Cherry pickers are for cherries. Cherries are safe.

  • I'm an inspector getting ready to do some inspection work on this bridge next week. I will be extra careful after this video.

  • I admire the courage of those rescuers!!

  • Hey! Sam Martin was my uncle. He has passed away now, but I believe he got into trouble over this incident. He did not have a boat spotting him from the water. Needless to say, he was not happy about this episode! I liked this show though. I think about him every time I drive over that bridge. Hope everyone else is doing ok!

  • That explains why there aren't any interview clips of him in this episode. I'm sorry to hear he died! R.I.P Sam!

  • my modified intro for this episode: tonight on rescue 9-1-1- these true stories of rescues caught on tape and frightning moments we face.

  • i know season 1 never had the modified intro but season 4 did, and if this episode had the modified intro it would be "these true stories of extreme rescues and frightning moments.

  • hi i noticed you put Dames point in front of bridge rescue, was this the actual title, not bridge rescue?

  • I don't know what the actual title is.

  • @allgood2000 The title is like you have it...Dames Point Bridge

  • @ChibiProwl I was referring to the title of the Rescue 911 segment, not the name of the bridge.

  • That's my father who went over the edge and saved those people.

  • Did I hear him correctly when the girl was sent on her way up? 'Have fun, let's do it again some time'.

  • @Maxshard, yep. LOL. And she says, "No way!" LOL. I live here in Jacksonville and can't imagine being suspended like that.

  • I lived in Jacksonville for 16 years and the common name of the bridge is the Dames Point Bridge. The official name is the Napoleon Bonaparte Broward Bridge.

  • does anyone know where this bridge is located like what city and state.. it looks huge..

  • It's in Jacksonville, Florida, I've been over it before. Get on Wikipedia and look up "Dames Point Bridge".

  • hey guess what happened this week there was a bridge inspection in my town with no rescue but the ladder was under the bridge.

  • i think the boom needed the inspection, not the bridge.

  • omg that is really scary

  • I think bolt or metal broke has been snap. I notice that on 5:33.

  • i would of jumped into the water, you have safy thingys on you..

  • Kim probably thought "I shoulda majored in Sociology or Medieval Studies!" Awesome end to a crazy event - best of luck to all involved

  • wow! i remember when this first aired--watched it all the time in college. my brother and i actually made a special trip to see this bridge when we went to the 1989 gator bowl.

  • You can't fuck with Rescue 911 or Unsolved Mysteries when it comes to Reality Tv!

  • Brave

  • yeah right...sista was like...aw hell naw, fuk diss shit. peace!

  • LOL LOL LOL AHIT FUK AT 05:36

  • Wow yeah I bet that was scary! Ibet she's making good money by now! :) It's good she didn;t let that stop her.

  • Heh, I remember when this happened. I was a kid playing on the banks when all of a sudden I heard a loud noise coming from the then-new bridge. They were out there for a long time and it was a thrill to watch. Not to mention that my old man had just joined the Fire Department and was called to the scene.

  • Who's your Dad if you don't mind saying?

  • 10:36 oh my god.

  • Never use God's name is vain

  • are you serious? it's the actual quote of the next segment

  • Altarboy777,

If you've got a problem with what the woman says in the next segment preview, how about you take it up with Arnold Shapiro.

  • 10:27 "Oh my god" those were memorable quotes in the next segment.

  • The music in this segment is very dramatic!

  • hi allgood have you noticed also in this opening the dispatch center is also used in the 1st segment of #101, thus #101-102 used this dispatch center?

  • Yes.

  • Man, this is the first time that I've seen this episode, and I used to watch this show back in the early 90's with my dad every day.

  • This was only the second episode (or fourth, if you count the two specials). It only aired on CBS two or three times, and this segment was never shown in syndication.

  • So it was never shown on the Family Channel either?

  • Nope.

  • i am not afraid of heights in fact i've been on the Mackinac bridge a couple of times.

  • That message wasn't geared towards you specifically. It was meant for all my contacts, just in case there happened to be at least one who was.

  • Hey allgood here's what I noticed for each Ambulance themed segment, the music is slower and sounds like a heartbeat when the announcer says "NEXT"

  • I think that's because this segment was an original CBS broadcast and most of the other first season segments are from FAM. Fam sped the episodes up a little bit so they could fit into a shorter time slot without being edited. If you listen to the music in the next preview for "Prison EMT's" at the end of "Sibling Stabbing" (which is also a CBS version), the music is the same speed.

  • Do you know if any of that music is available on the internet?

  • Not that I know of.

  • Not that you know of what?

  • You had mensioned something about the music that they always played when previewing the next segment (or when there has been a WWC in the middle of a story.) I asked Dave if he knows whether or not any of the musical scores used during rescue 911 stories are available on the internet. He's not sure if they are.

  • what I said that the next segment music sounds like a heartbeat that's appropriate for the next segment cpr baby, no there are no musical scores available.

  • did the bucket get pulled up or did that fall into the river cause if it came up they could have oulled the victims up that way

  • I don't think I could stand to hang upside down in midair for 1 minut let alone over 90 minutes! I wonder how much blood had rushed to their heads.

  • that is a brave man and woman

  • Today is May 15, 2008 I wonder if the actual incident took place on a Thursday because today is 5, 15, 2008?

  • No, it was on a Monday.

  • how do you know?

  • I looked at an old calendar.

  • fyi the jacksonville technical Rescue team was just formed when this story happened I just read it on a jacksonville fl. site.

  • has anyone noticed in the next preview for the segment cpr baby they cut the segment short where he says xenia fire and communications, and the mother says i need i need an ambulance my baby quit breathing and the dispatcher's scene is replaced with Jean screaming !oh my god?

  • after this is the 1st first aid for babies segment, C.P.R. BABY.

  • I've always thought Shatner read his intros from a teleprompter. Would anyone agree with me?

  • has anyone noticed the footage taped on May,15, 1989 text a little off?

  • this is a really cool one

  • wow in the beginning Will Shatner is SO obviously reading off cue cards! But this episode was inspiring and awesomeness that it turned out the way it did

  • TV presenters usuaally actually read off an autocue.

  • good god i prolly would shit myself if this happened to me

  • lol it was her first and prolly her last

atleast thats what i would do if i were her id quit the minute i got saved

  • They said "None of her plans are changed"

  • "I went to college for this!?" LOL!

After that, nobody could say she was a sissy!

  • or she could have been a Medieval History or English major and end up earning a lousy $20K per year

  • Famaque gloria, my dear, famaque gloria.

  • Phooey! That was supposed to be a reply to Defender78!

  • please all rescue 911 fans vote at tvshowsondvd, com for the first season or best of dvds,it has 433 votes

  • Forget Best Of! Vote for the First Season!

  • GIVE MORE EPISODES OF RESCUE 911 NOW

  • MORE EPISODES OF RESCUE 911 NOW

  • the paramedic at 09:17 looks almost like the guy that holds the c.b. mic near his mouth in the introduction, with the black jacket and almost the same facial feature, the scene with the mic towards his mouth might have been deleted from this segment.

  • this one kind of resembles the rescue that took place in liege belgium where a car hangs over the bridge,(note this was never used on the U.S. version of rescue911), this was on RESCUE 911's worlds greatest rescues.

  • Yo all good could you post the one where the kid gets stuck to the pool drain?

  • Yes, but it might be until October or November before I get a break from college to do it.

  • There is that one I would like to see of the boy getting stuck in the pool filter, and how he climbed into the filter and why he did is why I wish this series was on DVD.

  • There is the one with the boy getting his arm or hand stuck in the drain of the kiddie pool drain. And Palmer(last name of my favorite musician!) the lifeguard who gets his arm sucked in while trying to find the boy's goggles.

  • AND, the boy who almost gets sucked down a drainage pipe, and others try to keep him from going in. AND the little girl who does get sucked down after playing with her friend. Her screams were more frightening than the actual rescue situation.

  • Hammyharm, are you talking about the one where the kid gets his arm stuck in a pool drain and drowns in the kiddie pool, or the one where a toddler gets stuck in the 'manhole' opening of his grandma's pool filter but is not submerged underwater?

  • Yep- I meant the one with the boy in the kiddie pool who gets his arm stuck.

  • BTW, how and why would a boy get himself stuck in a pool filter anyway?? That would be one I would love to see!

  • I guess the person who invented the name for this machine was thinking about icecream sundaes while on the job and thus gave it that name LOL.

  • Ask your Senator,

Just like Alcoholics Anonymous, why isn't the Epilepsy Foundation available any where in USA, except designate areas? Who finances the EFA? Besides dispensing redudant self-serving brochures, how, what, where and when did the EFA helped any victim of Epilepsy since it ever came to happen around? I wonder, if the EFA have any idea that victims of seizures are losing every thing they have ever earned for persistent seizures? WHERE'S THE HELP?

  • hey i live in jacksonville!

  • There's another segment up on youtube that happened in Jacksonville. It's from Episode 417.

  • Yeah, that's the name of the book, David.

  • TO ALL AMBULANCE DRIVERS, EMERGENCY TECHNICIANS & FIGHER FIGHTERS, with eternal gratitude and deep heartfelt respect, I bow my head in your honor.

Thank you for saving my life many times over for a decade when ever I'm struck with Grand Epileptic Seizures. You are and will always remain the every day heros of our lives.

    Thank You,

    Your eternal Admirer

  • thanks david! more vids plz!

  • What caused the boom(cherry picker!) to fall? It was never explained.

  • I think one of the bolts holding it together at the elbow joint broke.

  • You might be right, although it is sort of weird that Shatner or any of the re-enactors never said what caused it. Surely if they were going to check under the bridge, they would make sure that all the equipment was in proper working order-including making sure the cherry picker is in proper working order!

  • They said what happened after the guy got out of the truck at the beginning, I guess that you didnt catch that?

  • There was a book called "Rescue 911" with the stories and some pictures of the rescues. It included almost every episode, including rescues from overseas and other countries. I think it was publish about 1995.

  • If you're thinking of "Rescue 911 Extraordinary Stories", it only had 81 stories from Seasons 1-4. Rescue 911 did about 670 stories.

  • Did the book have this segment, C.P.R.

    baby was never in it?

  • No, the book doesn't have any stories from Episodes 101 or 102 in it. It has "Player Down" and "Remorseful Burglar" from Episode 103 and "Lansing Stabbing" and "Storm Drain Girl" from Episode 104.

  • how come?

  • I don't know, I guess those are just the ones that stood out to the people choosing the stories.

  • Haha, did you hear the part where Kim is being hoisted up, and one of the paramedics says "Have fun, we'll have to do it again sometime" and Kim is like "No way!"

  • Yeah, that was pretty funny!

  • uhhh are you kidding

  • No. and if you want to ask anyone if they're kidding, you should ask Dave (A.K.A. Allgood2000.) I was replying to his comment where he said something about one of the rescue workers saying to Kim, "We'll have to do it again sometime." and Kim responds with, "No way!" It's just a joke between them.

  • oh i thought that you thought the whole episode was funny lol my bad!

  • Today on my way to work, I did see 2 men in a cherry picker basket as it was being raised--they had to fix the traffic light.

  • To this day, I never am sure what a cherry picker is for.And if I ever have heard the word, I think of a person picking cherries. I never knew what those things were that people stand in to fix a traffic light!

  • #129 of Rescue 911 is called the best of season one this segment on that episode is called Professional Rescuers.

  • There should be a book called "RESCUE 9-1-1-'s Dangerous Rescues" that would include this segment plus the segments never used on the show "Baby Jessica" and "Potomach River Flood"

  • Interesting enough, the term "cherry picker" is never used in this segment when that's the topic of the segment.

  • On the Best Of episode at the end of Season One when they highlighted this segment, Shatner referred to it as a cherry picker. I'm not sure what else you would call it. I hadn't seen it either until a couple of weeks ago. Someone had it on tape and sent it to one of my friends, who made me a copy. I'm glad I got to see it, I thought it was a good one.

  • I NEVER have seen this segment ever untill now. I saw a few seconds of it when it first aired on CBS back in 1989. The only few seconds of it I saw was with the 3 workers hanging in the basket. The TV guide back when it first aired on CBS was "3 people are trapped upside down in a suspension basket".

  • When the firetrucks and ambulance leave the station the music sound kind of Like tom and jerry or something.

  • this segment took place may 15, the 2nd segment took place may 16, how interesting.

  • actually yes the 2nd segment has the ringtone.

  • it's cool when the 2nd segment comes up it has the ringtone for the phone I don't think the syndicated version has this, and we hear Jean Collins saying "Oh my God"
