the problem is that after listening 20 times, you 'll get an habit;
With the one and only one Procol Harum, you feel always the vestal virgin still under the charm of the song. Only the original capture this atmosphere
Wow! Amazing! I have heard a lot of cover versions (and very good ones - and different approaches), and so far Annie Lennox' has been my favourite. But this one tops them all. So classical beauty and still faithfull to Procol Harum. Wonderful orchestra, divine voice.
cool...stuff like this solidifies...Procol Harum right up there with the one of the best bands that ever struck a chord...and most of us knew that already...
I love the orchestration in this version; but, I don't think Liza really understood how to apply her particular vocal gifts to this song. She does have a wonderfully pure voice.
Is there anyone who can post or reply directly to me some concrete historical facts with MLA references about Proco Harum, where they are to date, who actually wrote this master piece of beautiful wonder, and where this song has traveled in its 50 years of existence? This is probably one of the most amazing songs in modern history. The song begins in Wales, and travels to WoodStock, , but no one sings it like Liza Viega, and this Orchestra. Dr. Chivers of Carnegie Hall
Neither the melody nor the lyrics has any previous history or heritage.
The theme was written by Gary Brooker and Matthew Fisher.
The lyrics are by Keith Reid but the final verses are almost never sung. This and other covers, as well as P.H. performances typically covers the shortened single version.
The Hammond organ line of "A Whiter Shade of Pale" was inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach's "Sleepers Awake" and "Air on a G String", but contrary to popular belief, the song is not a direct copy or paraphrase of these or any other Bach pieces.
lovely voice! .. i am not too crazy abou the version.. she does sound like Sarah Brightman as Creidhe said. Nothing wrong with accent.. actually accent can add color to the voice except if you listen to Power of love by Baskov.. that sounds HORRIBLE.. check it out!
How many times have you tried to speak Portuguese? Whatever her accent has, it's a thousand times better than an English singer trying to sing a Portuguese song. When commenting, stick yourself to the music quality.
An extremely pure but slightly mechanical orchesteral/operatic performance of one of the greatest songs of all time. Still, this a beautiful work and deserves praise.
Lovely singing!

That creamy soprano just massages my amygdala. They hired enough strings! It's about time we had the string arrangement.

(a pity IMO, but that's radio and MTV for you)
Most played song in British broadcasting history.
Recorded covers from about 800 artists.

WOW, she needs some emergency English courses. Singing one octave lower wouldn't hurt either.
This was the best arrengement I've heard so far, though. Yet the performance was a bit mechanical as pupplesan noted.
