Superb playing, of course, but I find Sergio's head-tossing very distracting. I can't help thinking about his brain rattling around in there... It can't be good for him. There are many other, healthier, less-disturbing ways to express emotion while playing. I hope he breaks the habit before he hurts himself (if he hasn't already).
The ridiculous speed and obnoxiously tasteless, overdone ritenuto at 0:19 allow for a complete loss of the triple meter that Ravel so valued in this tribute to the Vienese waltz. This performance unfortunately displays Martha's speed demon technique passing onto her student, who clearly doesn't know how to handle it (at least in this piece).

When you go to a consert or recital, you go to listen and also to watch..despite many people could say itçs not true. But is true.
The differnece bettween listn a CD and going to a concert is that one, and others of course, as to listen a real sound and not "Proccesed" sound. But it is also relative. becuase it depends where are you seated, etc.
That kind of things who are not mre than a lack of control, distract the pianist, distract the audinec, etc, than teh real auditive phenomena

Related to a comment a friend made in another link concerning people who is back by Martha Argerich, he also realized despite she is great pianist, unfortunatedly she is too emotional and a kind of "Maternal protection instinct" woth pianists which have a weak personality and a lot of mannierisms. One of them is Pogorelich, then Kissin and this bluff Sergio Tiempo and his incredible "head" syndrom. What happen with Martha?

I agree totally with tcphilosopher! Ashkenazy used to have big hair and was prone to this at times but certainly not as extreme and certainly not ostentacious. Argerich looks like she's taken in some washing, as usual, and is a wry old bird and a great pianist. She should put her hair up in a bun like Lily Savage for extra "punch", perhaps with a built-in small cuckoo clock, allowing the "bird" to pop out at dramatic moments?

I agree. The head movements seem like more a part of his dramatic arsenal then his musical interpretation. His fluffy head of hair makes for great if ostentatious dramatics.
He is however lucky to have the high priestess of piano as his teacher.
"La Valse" is a great, wild waltz gone mad, and Ravel's two-piano version is every bit the match for his orchestration...they're just different media.
Sergio Tiempo is a wonderful pianist whom Argerich has been promoting (along with many other young performers she deems worthy) through her Lugano festival. Sure he puts on a show here, but I think he's just having fun...an amazing feat with such a difficult piece.
Tiempo is featured in one of Argerich's "Argerich presents..." series, which clearly shows her support for him and that she respects him as a musician. He's a talented pianist, gorgeous, and his name is well-known... How can you challenge that gurkerl?

It's my favourite piece for two pianos. I can't wait until we start working on it in the next few weeks! I love it. I thought it was a bit fast though..
i think it's a great piece.. ravel is genious and this, althogh not as good as gaspard, is fantastic. The solo piano version is better though. It's great when you have heard the whole piece all the way through, and already know the themes and even the background story to the piece makes this a fantastic piece...

The ridiculous speed and obnoxiously tasteless, overdone ritenuto at 0:19 allow for a complete loss of the triple meter that Ravel so valued in this tribute to the Vienese waltz. This performance unfortunately displays Martha's speed demon technique passing onto her student, who clearly doesn't know how to handle it (at least in this piece).

When you go to a consert or recital, you go to listen and also to watch..despite many people could say itçs not true. But is true.
The differnece bettween listn a CD and going to a concert is that one, and others of course, as to listen a real sound and not "Proccesed" sound. But it is also relative. becuase it depends where are you seated, etc.
That kind of things who are not mre than a lack of control, distract the pianist, distract the audinec, etc, than teh real auditive phenomena

Related to a comment a friend made in another link concerning people who is back by Martha Argerich, he also realized despite she is great pianist, unfortunatedly she is too emotional and a kind of "Maternal protection instinct" woth pianists which have a weak personality and a lot of mannierisms. One of them is Pogorelich, then Kissin and this bluff Sergio Tiempo and his incredible "head" syndrom. What happen with Martha?

Normally people with few use of his upper brain, use his lower brain...or emotional brain to make the apreccition of some things. It is the esay way to do it. On the other side exist people who don´t care and make comments based in pure and genuine observation.

lol. well actually, come to think of it, you're more of a bitter bluff than he is. you go around leaving negative comments, criticizing things that are ultimately unimportant (to say the least) and you judge as if you've surpassed these ppl. when in actual fact, you're just a bluff. at least these ppl are famous bluffs.
i'm not at all a fan of sergio and i kinda dislike his interpretations, but i wish i'd had half of his technical abilities!

I agree totally with tcphilosopher! Ashkenazy used to have big hair and was prone to this at times but certainly not as extreme and certainly not ostentacious. Argerich looks like she's taken in some washing, as usual, and is a wry old bird and a great pianist. She should put her hair up in a bun like Lily Savage for extra "punch", perhaps with a built-in small cuckoo clock, allowing the "bird" to pop out at dramatic moments?

I agree. The head movements seem like more a part of his dramatic arsenal then his musical interpretation. His fluffy head of hair makes for great if ostentatious dramatics.
He is however lucky to have the high priestess of piano as his teacher.

"La Valse" is a great, wild waltz gone mad, and Ravel's two-piano version is every bit the match for his orchestration...they're just different media.
Sergio Tiempo is a wonderful pianist whom Argerich has been promoting (along with many other young performers she deems worthy) through her Lugano festival. Sure he puts on a show here, but I think he's just having fun...an amazing feat with such a difficult piece.

Tiempo is featured in one of Argerich's "Argerich presents..." series, which clearly shows her support for him and that she respects him as a musician. He's a talented pianist, gorgeous, and his name is well-known... How can you challenge that gurkerl?

she is NOT his teacher! lol he's been bugging her for year, better said, segio's mother... ;) but it doesn't matter how hard they try he is NOT argerich and will never be. he is just one cheap imitation and nothing else. another one gone awol in the world of pianists. he is neither great nor unique nor anything. just another loooooser who depends on his mother and the names of other great musicians to get some attention. that's all. plain old NAME DROPPER! lol ;)

i think it's a great piece.. ravel is genious and this, althogh not as good as gaspard, is fantastic. The solo piano version is better though. It's great when you have heard the whole piece all the way through, and already know the themes and even the background story to the piece makes this a fantastic piece...
