Obviously the pilot isn't as good as the actual episode, I don't see why people rag on it... it's cool to see how much was changed. Not enjoying chubby Willow, but the scene with her and the vampire in this is cooler than the other one!
I like this unaired pilot. Pretty interesting to watch how much it changed before Welcome to the Hellmouth.

It looks a lot like it was based on old, classic Dracula films. Once staked (by a large piece of wood driven through the ribcage with a sledgehammer - it's not easy!), an ANCIENT vampire would age to how old it should really look then, because of that age, crumble to dust. Younger ones would just die.
There's some bad writing. "This... teen... thing!" Not so eloquent, Rupert! But mostly it's not so bad.
But what's everyone's problem with "Fat Willow"? We all like Alyson Hannigan, and good for her that she went from child actor through this to an adult career, but I liked this girl too.
It was a stereotype, of course, bookish, dateless fat girl, but we ended up with the usual US TV land BS of "all girls who count are unnaturally thin".... until Tara came along.
I mean I just call her fat willow. I have nothing against her being fat. It is just her mannerisms, They don't make me feel willow, and If this was the actual plot since willow is one of my favs, I wouldn't have watched the rest of the series. And Hey I love Tara! She is my actual favorite character in existence! I get emotionally attached to characters so I was crying when she died. ):
I meant because Tara, Amber Benson, was NOT unnaturally thin. Next to Willow and Buffy she looked positively chunky although she was a perfectly healthy slim build compared to most of us.
I was a little sad to see that Ms Benson later slimmed down to skin and bones as well. Oh well. She probably thought she couldn't get any more work if she stayed bigger than size zero.
to all the people that are saying "wow this sucks, the real show was so much better"....DUH??!! I think maybe you need to wikipedia a "pilot episode". Pilots are made with no budget and very little editing just to sell the idea of the show to the producers and then they reshoot with a bigger budget. So...in essence...it's supposed to be shit. It's like a rough draft.
I prefer Welcome to the Hellmouth. It had a much stronger sense of danger... with the Master and all. Without the Master season one would have failed. But it was cool to see this. :)
wow. i just watched the entire thing. um. had that been the first official episode I wouldn't have stuck with the show for more than that. Willow, the character, the actress didn't bother completely, was completely pathetic. I mean even in the proper show you got a feeling that Willow could shove a guy and run for it. and the acting is under par. and i can't imagine THAT being an actual public school library. I mean i know some scenes are word for word the same but the intensity is not the same.
WAY WAY WAY better than the one they aired if they would have just casted allyson then re filmed it all it would be fantastic the ending was so strong i love it and the library, digg it!
I'm glad they went for another school, library, bronz, Willow, effects, and the story line in general. BTVS wouldn't have made it past the first season if the show was like that. There wasn't really anything to it and it was even more boring then the movie. It just goes to show how scenes really do set the mood for the show and how having one off cast member can ruin the whole chemestry of the show
Its interesting to see that both Mercedes Mcnab and Danny Strong ( harmony & Jonathan) were already involved in the series from as early as the the very first pilot , considering that their roles were little more then extras for the first two seasons. I'm not going to make the obvious comments about willow as I feel its unfair to the actress. who knows how she would have done if she had been...the chosen one (pardon the pun). lets just say Im glad Alyson got the part.

There was still some of the classic puns in there and most of the cast we are used to though I have to agree with every comment about the actress playing Willow in the un-aired pilot. Obviously we are used to Alyson Hannigan and the kooky Willow but in this pilot the portrayal of the character was boring and I would have been more than happy for her to be eaten by the vampires!
It's nice seeing this unaired original pilot. I loved that first episode, and it's cool seeing it in another perspective with some slight changes...okay, maybe not slight. But it's still great!
Well all i can say is thank god that fat willow girl didn't stay shes a terrible casting for Willow and the libary is much better in the series as well as the vampires. But the principal seemed alright.

Ok, so it's a half an hour instead of an hour, they staked Darla, not to mention Willow, *shakes head* (glad they when with alyason, ok so I did mention it,) I'm very glad they didn't do it this way, but I did like the homework scene with the hand motions, Buffy's speech to Giles (or was that in the other one?) and the Darla scence in the begining.

Actually, Darla was brought back to life by Wolfram and Hart in Angel. Season 2, I believe.
Darla does die in Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. Season 1, episode 7. Angel stakes her.

There's some bad writing. "This... teen... thing!" Not so eloquent, Rupert! But mostly it's not so bad.
But what's everyone's problem with "Fat Willow"? We all like Alyson Hannigan, and good for her that she went from child actor through this to an adult career, but I liked this girl too.
It was a stereotype, of course, bookish, dateless fat girl, but we ended up with the usual US TV land BS of "all girls who count are unnaturally thin".... until Tara came along.

I mean I just call her fat willow. I have nothing against her being fat. It is just her mannerisms, They don't make me feel willow, and If this was the actual plot since willow is one of my favs, I wouldn't have watched the rest of the series. And Hey I love Tara! She is my actual favorite character in existence! I get emotionally attached to characters so I was crying when she died. ):

I meant because Tara, Amber Benson, was NOT unnaturally thin. Next to Willow and Buffy she looked positively chunky although she was a perfectly healthy slim build compared to most of us.
I was a little sad to see that Ms Benson later slimmed down to skin and bones as well. Oh well. She probably thought she couldn't get any more work if she stayed bigger than size zero.

to all the people that are saying "wow this sucks, the real show was so much better"....DUH??!! I think maybe you need to wikipedia a "pilot episode". Pilots are made with no budget and very little editing just to sell the idea of the show to the producers and then they reshoot with a bigger budget. So...in essence...it's supposed to be shit. It's like a rough draft.

I prefer Welcome to the Hellmouth. It had a much stronger sense of danger... with the Master and all. Without the Master season one would have failed. But it was cool to see this. :)

wow. i just watched the entire thing. um. had that been the first official episode I wouldn't have stuck with the show for more than that. Willow, the character, the actress didn't bother completely, was completely pathetic. I mean even in the proper show you got a feeling that Willow could shove a guy and run for it. and the acting is under par. and i can't imagine THAT being an actual public school library. I mean i know some scenes are word for word the same but the intensity is not the same.

but the acting kinda sucked here and there
and also, the sets they used (library, ther bronze) were definitely better in the actual episodes...

I'm glad they went for another school, library, bronz, Willow, effects, and the story line in general. BTVS wouldn't have made it past the first season if the show was like that. There wasn't really anything to it and it was even more boring then the movie. It just goes to show how scenes really do set the mood for the show and how having one off cast member can ruin the whole chemestry of the show

Its interesting to see that both Mercedes Mcnab and Danny Strong ( harmony & Jonathan) were already involved in the series from as early as the the very first pilot , considering that their roles were little more then extras for the first two seasons. I'm not going to make the obvious comments about willow as I feel its unfair to the actress. who knows how she would have done if she had been...the chosen one (pardon the pun). lets just say Im glad Alyson got the part.

There was still some of the classic puns in there and most of the cast we are used to though I have to agree with every comment about the actress playing Willow in the un-aired pilot. Obviously we are used to Alyson Hannigan and the kooky Willow but in this pilot the portrayal of the character was boring and I would have been more than happy for her to be eaten by the vampires!

It's nice seeing this unaired original pilot. I loved that first episode, and it's cool seeing it in another perspective with some slight changes...okay, maybe not slight. But it's still great!

Well all i can say is thank god that fat willow girl didn't stay shes a terrible casting for Willow and the libary is much better in the series as well as the vampires. But the principal seemed alright.

they didn't have Angel in the pilot! That makes me sad :( Willow was terrible, she should be quirkier, like the way Alyson portrayed her. I think everyone's acting was a little bleh in the pilot. Definitely amped it up for the aired one though!

I'm a fat girl and even i'm glad they recast willow could you really see this girl running from a vamp maybe towards a table but other than willow I liked the rest the library was darker and should have been keep that way.

Ok, so it's a half an hour instead of an hour, they staked Darla, not to mention Willow, *shakes head* (glad they when with alyason, ok so I did mention it,) I'm very glad they didn't do it this way, but I did like the homework scene with the hand motions, Buffy's speech to Giles (or was that in the other one?) and the Darla scence in the begining.

haha wow this pilot is really funny to watch. is it me or is sarah acting more like buffy from the movie in this. i think she bought a much more likable performance to the actual show once it was aired. but it was still really cool to watch this. woah that willow was weird thoguh lol.

okay...I thought it was close to the original until I watched this! Thank god they didn't air this - eighties music, Chuck Norris style karate, bad, bad Willow, only Giles is correct! - Still miss though...
