  • Number 66000! :D

  • Fantastic work Scott. Thank you, this is the first tutorial on the game I both perfectly understood and thoroughly enjoyed watching. I decided to buy the game based on your vid.

  • sounds great...

but why is it a board game, it should be a video game.

  • He has a bug on his finger at 10:17

  • Zach Galifianakis @ 1:26

  • imagine this as Minecraft : the board game, lol

sounds like a good game, thanks for the review!

  • Thanks so much for this! I found the instructions impenetrable and not very good at giving a sense of the flow of the game - this is mad enlightening.

  • Loved this! Just been playing it! What's with the Lederhosen skirty things then?

  • Very long review but very complete. Just wished you had done one for Puerto Rico to.. UvulaBobs is kinda light .. I have no idea what the complete game is about... For this one it would be like "You have farms". End of story. Maybe Le Havre is much deeper...

Also I wonder how Puerto Rico compare or if there are better "settlers" games out there. Cuba got lower rating so maybe it's worse. But Puerto Rico look kinda boring. Seen your review.

  • @JohanKH I did do a video on Puerto Rico. Head to boardgameswithscott and search for Puerto Rico. (I can't link in these comments).

  • I miss your BGWS :(

  • woo just bought this today :) thanks for the quick runthrough! genuinly excited to play this tommorow.

go wild boar! .. i mean scott

  • What do you think of Farmers of the moor?

  • @Gerstein1 It adds quite a bit to the challenge of the game. If you find the base game too easy, then it's time to jump into that.

  • Nice informative review. Makes our family want to get this game. But it should be pronounced "A-gree-KO-la." Like the Roman general in Britain, Gnaeus Julius Agricola. See: "De vita et moribus Iulii Agricolae"

  • Love the video. Cough joke was great. I can see clearly though that this game is not for me. Back to Small World!

  • How does the babies for animals work? Specifically, do you get 1 baby for every 2 animals (i.e. if I have 4 sheep, do I get 2 babies or just 1)?

  • @joeglow You get, at most, one baby animal.

  • After reading the instructions 2 times through, this video cleared up the rules quite a lot. Now I am off to play a solo game in preparation to teach my fellow gaming friends how to play. Thanks for this review / overview.

  • I like Puerto Rico b/c it is faster, but Agricola is a good game as well!!!!

  • I wish I would have watched this video before trying to read those convoluted, size-8-font instructions. This was SO much more clear! The game still seems insanely complicated, but at least I have a general understanding now. Thanks again!

  • I think I'll play with the Winter themed board from Agricola: The Goodies Expansion, always. That's the only way I'll get over my OCD with those darn white boarded cards! YAY!

  • I think my cowboys from Carson City will make fine farmers.

Hey, it makes sense. When you play Agricola with the Brokeback Mountain variant. They make babies when they go to the hut. Instead they discuss & adopt another cowboy.

I must say I think Z Man missed a trick with the cards to this game. The player set of cards shouldn't have a white border, it should be the same colour of the board they are placed on. Those white borders are quite the eye sore, esp when placed on the board.

  • same sex disks can't make babies :P

  • How would you compare this game to Puerto Rico? Which one is better and which one do you like more and why?

  • @skim0611 They are different. I like Agricola better, but it does take longer, especially with lots of players.

  • Great Video and very very helpful. I didn't realize you were out there until I bought the game and decided to take a change and google for any videos. You definitely have a talent for this. Thanks so much!!!

  • Shouldn't it be "ag - RICOLA"?

BTW, we have an Agricola street in Halifax.

  • I almost think I understand it now. Can't say that the instructions helped at that...

  • Farmville!

  • Agricola was mentioned on XKCD today. Expected your number of views to suddenly bump up. LOL

  • Hey Scott, Just wanted to say thanks a bunch for making this video. I've turned down many games because of their LONG instruction manual. Watching a 20 minute *Entertaining Video is sooo much nicer. Plus, I can now just forward your videos to friends instead of having to explain the game myself (which I'm no good at). The next few games I buy will be ones you have already done videos for... you should really get paid to do this (if you dont already). Anyhow... Thanks again

  • 22:45 Hahaha, "When you're ready to kick the game up a notch, BAM you use the BAM deck!"

  • Even after this great explination video I'm still confused about this game. I'm going to take the game with me on the caban trip we plan next week with 3 of my other friends. No internet access ... so I try to get as much info as I can about this.

  • awesome vid Scott, you cleared up some confusion I was having with the rules.

  • 21:00 "Get creative?" Can you, say, have a population reduction that miraculously increases the food? >;)

Is scoring hard to plan for for new players? I'd sort of frame it in my head like "do as much as you can with everything", but I imagine that might be overwhelming for some people.

  • @nutherefurlong Yeah, I find with first-time players, I like to give them the goal of "Try to get at least one of everything and use all of your land." If they start focusing on one thing, I'll point out how there's a scoring cap on most items. That's enough for a first-time player.

  • Scott! You are the man! Thank you so much for this easy to understand tutorial - we could NOT figure the rules out ourselves. Something must get lost in the translation.

  • Thank you Scott. That was very helpful after about 45 minutes of reading the instructions and still being somewhat confused. If you put your realistic barnyard animals up for sale at ebay and sign each of them I will pay lots of money for the.

  • Hey! I'm pretty sure the wood pieces should be the darker ones. The lighter ones are clay. You do it the other way round, it confuses me!

And you really should have mentioned the ovens.

  • @Pebbe496 No , he has it right . The lighter tockens are the wood .

  • This video is SO much better then the obtuse instruction manual. So glad I found this.

  • How is gameplay for only 2 players?

  • @horiare Solid. The board changes so you have fewer resources, so it's been designed and balanced for each number of players. It's faster, as well.

  • Hey man... seriously.. what an awesome description.. that's gonna make it a lot easier for me to explain it to my friends tonight.. thanks a lot

  • This is random lol. But it's cool.

  • Query: Do you purchase these games or are they sent to you for you to review? If they are sent to you, how the heck do you do that? I would love to do a review of games from a girl's point of view, seeing as I am the only girl gamer out of all of my friends.

  • It's a mixture. This one, I bought. I do get some mailed to me. But the only way that happens is by establishing yourself as a reviewer. It was probably 2 years of doing these before I started getting any games to review.

  • I see, I see. Thank you. I just might have to do that. I have been able to convert one of my female friends into the nerdy games I enjoy, but so many of the girls who come around just aren't interested or think it's too confusing. Of course I guess I'm not a normal girl, since I've always been into nerdy things and RPGing, but maybe I could help show the female demograph how entertaining these games can be, and how you can spend time with your spouse by killing them in battle!

  • @dierdrelefae its called make a video on youtube... not that hard... fail harder next time

  • @MrVangard thank you for the incredible insight. I do actually make videos on two channels, but was just wanting some opinions on making videos in this field.

  • Hehehe I love how you call pieces "dolls" it's so funny! I am really enjoying your reviews of games, I just subscribed, so it will take me awhile to go through all of them. You do an excellent job of reviewing games and clearly explaining gameplay. Thank you very much!

  • Dolls? I mean dolls? lol

  • Santa, why didn't you give me Agricola for Christmas?

  • great video. shame about the mental start ;)

  • Just bought this, now I have to find someone to play with : )

I bought Puerto Rico a week ago, and have played it almost everyday since I got it. I think I have as much fun learning about new games as I do playing them. I played Lost Cities last year, then I bought the board game version. Last week I played Catan for the first time, and now I'm hooked on Eurogames.

  • try dominion. its pretty addicting and easy to learn

  • also check out power grid, san juan, and race for the galaxy, rftg is my favorite

  • Technically you don't need anyone to play with. You can solo that shit. 1 player style, son.

  • For $50, the components are god awful. The game looks pretty good though. I might try it out. Thanks for the review.

  • at the beginning, I thought it was two hebs overlooking Hollywood.

  • dadinka27: if, in round 13, you make a new baby, then in round 14 you can use it to take an action.

  • Hi Scott, I have one question , if u can help me please. Imagine u have 3 rooms house and 4 people in (b/c I got baby on stage 5 card). Next round started and first thing i did, I build new room. Can I use in this round that 4th baby, or I have to wait for next round? Thank u very much.

  • THANK YOU! My (all adult) family and I spent about 2 hours studying the incomprehensible instructions and could make no sense of them. Tempers were growing distinctly frayed, until we found this great video, which saved our Christmas Day. Thanks

  • in your turn, when do you have a chance to play an occupation card....???

  • It's one of the actions you can choose on the board, so you have to place a worker on the space, then you can play a card.

  • Best video on the game

  • Very good video again! Helped me a lot :) Keep on making.

  • Bought this from reading reviews on BGG. Your overview saved soo much time in reading the instructions the first time through. Much appreciated :)

  • GJ scott..i love your instructions...very entertaining while being very informative as well. THanks!

  • This one looks awesome.

  • Is Youtube allowing videos longer than 10 mins again?

  • exactly what i thought, scott doesn't have enough subscribers yet..

  • You have to sign up for the Partners program, which allows YouTube to put ads on videos, and the restrictions go away. I just learned that, so now I'm going back and putting all my old videos up here.

  • oh ic, thanks.

  • Wow, I've seen this before on your site, had no idea it wasn't on youtube yet.
