F.Y.I. I was at a sankey production and never did I see any hot shot used or even on the grounds . I have also contacted PETA, and here is the response: Thanks for writing. Now that youve been made aware of these sadistic devices, they become more obvious. But hotshots are standard tools in rodeo—theyve been around as long as youve been attending. Rodeo is an industry fraught with cruelty and I hope you will make this years visit your last.

After all, by you're theory they are getting these horses out of the chute by using fear based pressure. If you must cause fear, why not cause fear without harm? I know there is some horses on the bucking strings that genuinely love thier job and are treated better than most show horses. However when breeding for anything, its a crap chute, so of course if the horse does not have the desire or ability, he should be doing a different job. Save the bucking for the one's who enjoy it.

If these horses genuinely "loved" their tasks, we wouldn't be opposed. In that case we would see them bucking in their pens, and that is not the case. They would buck without the cruelty and torment, and that obviously is not the case.

Well why do we use electric fences? I guess what I am trying to say here, is that I wouldnt think it would hurt so much as sting a horse, or shock them (no pun intended). And that would be where you get the reaction of running out of the chute. After that they buck of course because of natural instict, and react as if they were trying to remove a cougar from they're back.

However I really think there could be other, better ways to get them out of the chute, perhaps even the noise of a whip?

A flank does not hurt an animal otherwise they would not buck and they are not even put on tight. They are made out of the softest materials to make sure they don't cause any pain or burning. If it wasn't for rodeo these stock contractors these animals would never have a chance to grow up or do any thing in there life because no one would want them, and they would be sent straight to auctions where some meat buyer would buy them.

Steve, The hand held "Hot Shot" is not by any means the same amount of power that you are going to get out of a household socket! The "Hot Shot" is powered by 2 D Cell batteries. Are you going to tell me that two small batteries are going to put out the same amount of power as a household socket? I've viewed several of these vids. I can't argue with them. Hot shotting a horse to "help" get them safely out of the chute is the rodeo arguement. I have to disagree with that position now. I was raised in rodeo but think it may be time to at least walk the talk with our humane officials.

You need to get your information straight. Ike Sankey does happen to have some of the rankest horses in rodeo, but not because of why you say. He breeds them to buck. They have it in their genes. I know for a fact that his horses are some of the most pampered animals in the world. He was recently recognized for his outstanding care of his animals. You guys need to find something better to with your time than to bash on a man that does an awesome job at what he does.

The video shows what it shows, and it shows Sankey and his minions shocking horses in the face and head.
