  • Greetings! I have started up a tank (40 gal) that I could afford. I have a male Sunshine peacock who is coloring up more everyday. I also 4 peacocks I bought unsexed supposedly and I was told they are close to 1 yr in age and all smaller than the male.

He does a lot of chasing around but nothing happens. These four juveniles square off against one another (mostly after the light is off) and get into these bouts of lip locking. Is this something immature cichlids do? Please explain! Confused!

  • i have 3 africans i picked out at lfs along with 5 brichardis n my tank, i take good care of it but its been a few months of brichardis being there and no breeding yet any ideas? and how do u sex african males cuz they are mixed at the store when u buy them? thx

  • hey i am still trying to decide exactly what kind of africans i want to get i want to breed some colorfull ones i have a 50-55 gallon tank it is about 4 feet in length so im thinking about electric yellow labs what do you think the ratio for me would be? I have some vids up you can check out my tank setup and maybe that will help.

  • @rexlinkfish Hi, I've had a look at your tank video :) Are you planning on keeping Yellow Labs with your tropical fish?

  • @bolly12345 actually no im not im planning on getting rid of those.

  • Hey, I have 2 bio wheels for my 75 and I don't like them, the tank is always a little cloudy and the bio wheels always somehow break on me, I'd like to get a canister filter but there a lot of money. Basically what im asking is what filter should I get for my tank?

  • @thescientist282 You could try a Fluval 405 with a smaller cheaper external. I recommend the Fluval FX5

  • i have six baby of short body flowerhorn n 4 out of six have white spot i have tried medicine have raised temperature every thing i can think of......can u help me....

  • I have been trying to find out how to raise or lower the ph of the water. Would you be able to help please?

  • @gmsg1981 Ocean rock and Coral sand will help

  • WHAT KIND OF BIRDS DO U HAVE??

  • how do to differ a male from a female

  • @GOLDROCK420 If you look in my How to African Cichlids playlist i've made a video on that subject :)

  • @bolly12345 are you a Leeds lad mate??

  • iv owned chichlids for may years and bow i want to breed. i have a large 5 ft fishtank and would like to breed 4 to 5 specials of chichlids. could i put pieces of glass inside my 5ft tank to split it into 4 seprate tanks ? would this be good

  • @petegrimsby Hi Pete, Just choose species that will probably not cross breed. If you put 4 pieces of class in the tank you'll create only just over a foot for them which is not recommended buddy

  • thats some good info.do you have any info on shell dwellers like calvis ?

  • Whats a good filter for a 30 gallon for under 100 dollers?

  • @TheDarkClanVidz I recommend the fluval range :)

  • @TheDarkClanVidz fluval c4 power filter is good

  • is a 3ft tank too small for breeding different species of mbunas with the ratio 3:1.. And how many species can i breed in my 3ft tank.

  • thanks for posting regards kev

  • how long after the femaile is fat does it take for her to lay her eggs and start holding I bought 2 femailes that look like there full of eggs 2 weeks ago and they still look fat....

  • @myra583 African Cichlids are mouth brooders so they do not lay eggs ;)

  • @bolly12345 I think they had malawi bloat when I got them the fat ones died. I thought they layed one egg and then picked it up after the mate fertilized it and so on ( didn't know they come straight from there mouth) lol j/k ha ha. I got it.

  • Hey mate your good when it comes to fish ive watched your videos i have a question i really need and answer to I have 2 electric yellows 1 male 1 female and i also have 2 blue dolphins but i cant tell their sex just yet but im 1000% positive i have 1 male electric and 1 female im wondering if they will breed fine and when she is holding her fry i will move it out of the tank and put more females in is this a good idea? I got only a 2 and half ft tank will it be fine to breed for now? thanks alot

  • @SwaggerPrettyBoy keep the female in the tank for around 28 days after she picked up the brood of eggs then strip the fry into another tank. if you take the female out of the main tank for a more than a few days the other fish will fight her when you put her back in.

  • ah spot on mate your a star :)

  • Tried re joining having no luck fella lol

  • @ADDICTED2BASS1211 with what name?

  • @bolly12345 Malawi MaD mate dont no why they admin haven't got back to me? bad times lol

  • @ADDICTED2BASS1211 I've just activated you ;)

  • Do you keep wilds bolly?

  • @ADDICTED2BASS1211 Yes mostly WC a few F1 and TB until I get my next shipment

  • Well tbh if you keep females that look similar and keep similar species your asking for hybrids. Thats why your best keep larger groups of 3 or 4 species that are not similar.

  • @ADDICTED2BASS1211 That's very true! As you probably might know Mbuna will try and breed with anything if they can get away with it. Thank you for your comment

  • @bolly12345 Yeah their like rabbits at times lol. Which is why we end with up with most of these hybrids you find in some aquatic shops across the UK.. I thought they where wilds then looked at your other video and noticed that you said they were aswell as saying on here. Very nice looking fish mate got yourself a nice setup there, got some similarities to my setup. Where you get your fish if you dont mind me asking? Natural world?

  • @ADDICTED2BASS1211 Yeah some LFS are a nightmare for Hybrids!

I got my wilds from Stevenage Specialist Aquatics :)

  • @bolly12345 Oh yeah i heard of them they are specialists of african cichlids aint they? You on any forums or anything?

  • @ADDICTED2BASS1211 They sure are it's owned by a guy called Rick.

I'm one of the admins on malawiforum.co.uk

  • @bolly12345 I use to be on that forum alot but i forgot my login and everything is there any way of updating your name and changing the password?

  • @ADDICTED2BASS1211 Do you have idea what your username was? If not re-join?

  • Eww hybrids, quite ugly in my opinion.

  • Nice, job, thanks for sharing

  • @hobbyking1000 are you mad?? hybrids taint pure lines that should be the only reason why its wrong! Bolly nice video the only thing i will say is you say ad more females to males which is bang on but most of us buy our fish from shops and how the heck do you sex them when there still only young. I always ask for more females but most places the blokes dont have a clue on the sex and they also don't really give a dam. to them its just 3 or 5 fish sold!

  • Hey there, my oscars r not eating my bio gold cichlid food, but they do eat dried shrimps. What is wrong with them?

  • Very good vid :D

  • theres nothing wrong with hybrids

  • @HobbyKing1000 Hmm all I'll say to that comment is everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

  • @bolly12345 whats wrong with them?

  • @bolly12345

    No doubt he keep flowerhorns

  • Hey Mark do you think this would work with dwarf cichlids aswell ? most of mine lay eggs but I have one pair of mouthbrooders

  • @martyb0y1981 Hi mate, I'm not 100% sure on the answer so I'll have a look in to for you.

  • @bolly12345 thanks most of what I have found isn't dwarf cichlids

  • lol, was there something distracting you off camera to the right at the beginning or was it a moody/arty gaze into the distance?

  • @mbezik Hahaha no I was looking at my dog playing on the table outside.

  • @bolly12345 haha at first i thought you were having a moment of moody contemplation. hows the planted tank coming along, did you manage to stop the bba invasion?

since ive got the co2 levels stabilized in my tank and at a good level the bba i had has started to melt away, just grabbed a second co2 setup on ebay last night, £30 for the whole setup including 4.5kg refillable cylinder

  • @mbezik The bba was only on one little branch which I managed to remove :)

Sounds like you got a good deal.
