@jonathano1989 Life is already an established english word. Back in the day, MGS was supposed to be a Japan-only game and therefore they did not pay specific attention to their direct english translation. So it's actually OceRot but if they kept the name that way, the players would have blamed it on poor translations. You'll also notice in the japanese version that when you're seen, the game doesn't go in "Alert" mode but in "Danger" mode. Most of the english in the original is a raw translation
I think it's safe to mention that Ocelot's japanese voice actor died. That's why when Liquid "takes over" Ocelot's body, you hear Liquid's voice instead of Ocelot which would've made sense.
@CanderousXOrdo They should have done it that way in the English version. It's very hard to beleive that he's 'Liquid' when Ocelot looks and sounds exactly like himself.
How is it possible to have the suppressor Here? in the Spanish version given later, do you know if varies from one version to another? If not where you get it? please i´m spanish sorry for my inglish
''Rivolvaar Ocelot'' that made me laugh abit I find it a bit amusing how they spell the enligh ones in their dub. I like this japanese version too. (Even though the enligh is still better. No one beats David H. as a Snake damn it!)
what is the precise name of this version of metal gear (with japanese voice) , i have one japanese version, but with english voice and japanese subtitle, I do not succeed to find japanese version with japanese voice + japanese subcode
Kojima actually said in an interview several characters, Gray Fox especially, were based off of American comic books. He's got a lot of influence from the west.
It's actually "ii sensu da". Japanese can't hear the last letter 'e', therefore they replace it with the letter 'u' which we westerns can't hear. It's all about language and pronounciation.
Liquid Snake and Revolver Ocelot are two different characters. Revolver Ocelot lost his right arm, as you can see in this vid, so after Liquid's death at the end of MGS1 he had Liquids arm transplanted to his body. Liquids spirit took over Ocelots body during MGS2, so he had Liquids arm removed again and replaced it with a mechanical arm.
However, he (Revolver Ocelot.) used nanomachines and psychotherapy on himself, so that he himself would think that he was still posessed by Liquid Snake and thus, becoming Liquid Ocelot. He did this in ordner to fool the Patriot AI.
too bad he passed away before he could voice him for a final time in MGS4. Because of that, they used Liquid's voice to replace him,but as a homage,Ocelot's final words in MGS4("you're pretty good")were spoken by his original late voice-actor using a re-used sample line he spoke in MGS1
I partly agree, but since the dialogue and the characters are kind of anime-ish, it somewhat feels more cozy in japanese. If you've ever seen anime with original japanese voice actors, I think you'd probably get my point.
juustohoyla, who told you that the characters are kind of "Anime-ish"? I mean, don't you think you have a very stereo-typical concept about the Japanese way?
Yes actually, I do. Don't get me wrong, I was a real anime freak back in the day. But there are certain character types which are very common in most animes.
I don't think the Japanese version is any better or worse than the English one. It just has a different feel to it is all. I'm totally going to use these clips for Japanese practice.
No, I'm saying that because it sounds incredibly cheesey. I remember you, you reply to every comment on every MGS video on youtube. That comment was AGES ago and knowing you, you've probably already replied to it. Get a life kid.
Hmmm.... I don't hate these voices, but they sound so... cliche. It's not so hard to see why Kojima himself prefers the English dub over Japanese. Still, it's interesting listening to it...
Stop inventing reasonings that never came out of the creator's mouth. Hideo still doesn't despise the original Japanese voice acting, despite the existence of the English one.
Wow, buddy. Did I ever say that he despised it? I said he prefers it. Geez, wanna not stretch things outta proportion? Just cause he prefers it doesn't mean he hates it. Don't be such an extremist about a video game.
Okay, sorry to the creator for the double post, but you have noticed that Substance in Japan was English voices + Japanese subtitles? It's not really supporting that Kojima in particular prefers it, but really, if I could find the damn place where I read that he liked it, I'd cite it.
I DON'T doubt that Hideo likes the English voice acting. In fact, Hideo Kojima decided to include the original English voice acting in 'Metal Gear Solid Integral'...but he also added the Japanese subtitles.
what does そうだ and "koi" or whatever Ocelot says mean in 1:38?
DarkWhite1000 2 months ago
@DarkWhite1000 it means "draw"
redagent21 3 weeks ago
@redagent21 No it doesn't. It means "Come". The Japanese doesn't really have a word for "draw".
Just because he says "Draw" in the English version, doesn't mean he does the same in every other language as well.
