. What I did not see was how to configure the outs. Right now I by pass the UC and cannot switch from monitors to headphones on the interface itself. The only way I can switch between the two monitor sources are within the song on the master buss by selecting either main out or phones L & R. I should be able to do this on the interface by turning up or down the volume of phones or monitors. Nobody shows this
@foxdfive1 You have to make the change in the UC then the interface remembers it. Just activate the headphone mixed in the UC and unplug the interface.
Well, I found that I can select and deselect from monitors to headphones on the masters main out in the daw mix console. Doesn't seem right, but its the best that I can come up. May be its the whole separate outs from the daw that I am not used to. Thanks and keep putting up cool stuff
@foxdfive1 All you really need to do, to get the headphones working along with the speakers, is to activate both the 1&2 Mixer and the Phones power buttons in Universal Control. That's it and it should work with no problem. Skype me and we can chat. look up "themuzic" I can share my screen and show you exactly what to do. It shouldn't be that hard.
@themuzic I don't have skype -its a camera thing yes? I know one thing after I figure this out, I am going to post a you tube video and I never do that. I have figured out an alternative, albeit probably wrong, it works. There were many people in S1 forums looking for answers to this --it is something simple -- may be quite obvious -- nevertheless overlooked. When I run through UC i cannot pan left to right in the S1 mix console, therefore, I don't use it. Gotta Pan Mr. Muzic ;->
@foxdfive1 You can run Skype with just a Mic. You can see my video but I just won't see you. No biggie! But if you have something that works that's cool. And again, the whole panning issue in Studio One is because you don't have Universal Control Setup correctly.
@themuzic What i'm not getting is the routing that you were doing in your video. What goes in and how it goes out and where it goes. The UC looks simple enough, but since I do not record bands such as you do, I don't need it, at least not yet. On a side note, you really like that homemade mic reflector I see. May be I need that, and my vocals won't sound so "tin & thin" sounding. Checked out you studio, really nice and hip.
@themuzic Filter? I saw the pop screen and the sock. Im talking about that reflector with the foam behind the mic. You used card board or something if I remember, Yes? If we are talking about the same thing than I may want one, if you ship that is. For as simple, they want way to much for them.
@foxdfive1 Yeah, I call it a filter because it filters out the noise from behind. If you live in the US I can ship it. And you're right, for what they are, they're way too expensive.
came almost that close to answering my problem. Why can't I monitor both my headphones and my monitors from fire studio mobile, without jumping back and forth to audio configurations and changing them back and forth? I
@themuzic I am trying to bypass UC because I really don't need it right now. Is that a problem? If it is may be I should watch your video again with a focus on using the UC. My headphones are on 3 & 4 however, as yours are on 7& 8
@foxdfive1 You don't have to run the UC but any changes you make in the UC are written to the Interface. By that I mean the interface doesn't return to some default setting if the UC is off. So any changes you've made will be remembered by the interface. Not sure that makes sense to you but let me know. It may be a good idea for us to do a Skype session so I can talk and explain better.
@themuzic I have to become "Skype Hip" first. Everything is fine, with of course the exception of not being able to monitor head phones and the monitors from the firestudio interface. , I havent made any configurations with UC.I should not need to go to IO set up and move stereo left and rights from 1 & 2 to 3& 4 every time I switch from phones to monitors. This is the only problem I have.
HI. Could you please help me : I'm using live ableton. I want to use daw 1 et 2 for the Master and I want to use daw 3 et 4 (phones) for the metronom. I have select Cue to 3 et 4 in Live et Master to 1 et 2. I don't want the metreonom to be heard on 1 et 2. And yet it's there. It's driving me nuts. Is there a way to make this happen ?
@DidouDidouchka As far as I know, Only Studio One has the ability to choose what cue mix channels the click will come from. If Ableton doesn't show a separate click volume for each cue mix like Studio One does, then there's no way that I know of to turn them off individually from within Live. If you actually record the click to a track, you may be able to just mute the click track on those particular cue outs but, I don't use Live so that's just a guess. Sorry i wasn't much help.
This is very helpful. I have one question, is there some way to change the DAW routing to the physical outputs? Change the phones from say DAW 7-8 as for your firestudio to DAW 1-2? I am trying to use garageband with fire studio and GarageBand is not giving me any options to choose the master output channels.
Question: I want to monitor my vocals during recording but I don't want the audio to come from my FireStudio AND my DAW (the slight delay of the digital DAW signal creates an undesirable chorus effect). How can I turn direct monitoring off with universal control so I can still monitor through my DAW using headphones but I won't hear myself twice (once from the analog signal in the FireStudio and once from the digital signal in my DAW)? Thanks!
If you monitor directly out of the firestudio using the universal control, there should be no delay and should be true "Zero Latency" of you're not hearing this than there is either an issue with the interface or the driver. Remember, if setup correctly, monitoring directly from the Firestudio bypasses all software and is true zero latency. (0.0ms)
@BrandonHarrisWalker Thanks for the quick reply, but maybe I wasn't clear. I would prefer to mute the zero latency monitoring from the audio interface so I can only hear the processed digital signal through my DAW. I don't mind that it is delayed by a few ms.
@okunicki No, you would have to plug the keyboard's outputs into a set of inputs. You can not re-route that way inside the Universal Control, that I know of.
You have good comentary on the subject, but with this Universal Controller from the git go I was not sure what it was primarily designed to be used for. My sugesstion is to merely give a brief description on what the thing does (pros's and con's) then move on to how it works and how the user can benefit from it.
There's not much to comment on other than what's in the video. All it is is an off-line mixer for all the inputs and outputs and what is described in the video. There is no real pros or cons because if you use it with Studio One it isn't available. If you use it as a stand alone you can choose which inputs you want to hear in real time and which outputs to send to. That's it.
I could have used this video an hour ago!!!! I had been breaking my head to understand why if I was panning, the sound was coming out of both speakers, but the meters were showing something different.
@themuzic Make sure you are using Universal Control with each pair linked. That is, make sure you click the chain icon at the bottom, between each set of channels (turning them blue) This will ensure you are dealing with stereo pairs. Go through every channel on all the mixer pages and do this. Its just good set this up as it keeps the left and right selected. email me and we may be able to do a phone conversation so I can walk you through it. That's what I have done for several people.

@m8d4life Only Studio One can change the Physical out puts. 7 & 8 are hard wired as the headphones otherwise.

You say that playback from windows is done thru daw1&2 in channel 17&18.
Is there any way to use these channels and record a track in Studio one?
I have M-Audio keyboard playing through this I would be happy to record sounds from these channels in S1.
