I have really bad trust issues, ever since my childhood. But I've learned that holding grudges didn't do me any good. The people, the memories, and the actions, were never my fault, and accepting that helps me get over what happened and helps me open up to new people.

Trust, & the feelings of betrayal if it is broken, isn't a function of what someone else does. It's a function of having belief in your own judgement rocked. You move on & trust again, when you have enough confidence in yourself, so that, whatever 'THEY' do, YOU know that'll you'll be okay. By forgiving yourself an error of judgement in character assessment, you stop punishing yourself for being fallible. Emotional pain is only a function of how much you intend to punish yourself for a mistake.
Oh yeah and about resentment and holding on to things. What really works for me is : You have to think about the situation and Learn from it and know that this person actually Taught you something valuable that helps you to protect yourself. Like it or not people do fucked up stuff all the time, and so be it. But If you LEARN and don't repeat mistakes, you can actually thank them (in your head, lol ), make peace and move on. Hey Chris - Don't feel like you have to extend trust to people. If they are worthy of it then they will earn it, and will understand if you don't give it out so freely. If not fuck them too. I have really bad trust issues, ever since my childhood. But I've learned that holding grudges didn't do me any good. The people, the memories, and the actions, were never my fault, and accepting that helps me get over what happened and helps me open up to new people.

I always trust my first instincts. If I meet someone and we just don't click or I don't feel a connection I try not to let the relationship go further. It might sound bad but I've never had problems trusting people so I hope this helps. -3 you Chris!!

Same problem. I love to meet new people, but I can't trust anyone. Like my old friends. We all promised to keep contact when we started high school this year. I always have at least one old friend in each of my classes, and we never speak. I lost all my trust in people from my old school. But I'm okay now, I have 4 very close new friends :)

Oh yeah and about resentment and holding on to things. What really works for me is : You have to think about the situation and Learn from it and know that this person actually Taught you something valuable that helps you to protect yourself. Like it or not people do fucked up stuff all the time, and so be it. But If you LEARN and don't repeat mistakes, you can actually thank them (in your head, lol ), make peace and move on. At least for me that works. <3

Hey Chris - Don't feel like you have to extend trust to people. If they are worthy of it then they will earn it, and will understand if you don't give it out so freely. If not fuck them too. I got my issues but i just keep people at an arms length. Don't depend on anyone or any Attention you may get Or want, to make you happy. It's a defense mechanism and that way for a good reason. Your a very deep thinker and believe it or not, the answers ARE within you. Don't doubt your instincts. <3

I understand you Chris because i was raped for 4 years by my step brother he was a teenager almost 20 years old around 15 16 17 18 years of age and now im scared of older guys I dont trust guys but you..i trust you to give me wise advise I understand you. you're welcome for one thing, and once those guards go up, they aren't going anywhere. they're up to protect you so don't feel bad about expecting the worst even with someone who is supposed to have a clean slate bc honey, you know just as well as i do that nobodys slate is clean. they're big boys/girls and i think they should be able to handle having to earn friendship with you. if they were your friend then they won't mind. at all. hell if i could be your friend,someone whose HONEST? yeah.
