i own a black VTR and im Fully comp, im 19 in may and havent any NCB and havent even had my license a year yet. im Fully comp with legal fees, breakdown cover and a courtesy car. plus im entitled to drive other vehicles as it states on my policy. £1500.

The FIAT is okay if you like Italian styling and a turbo, but plagued with reliability issues. The Peugeot is probably dedicated to performance due to their rally heritage and has good styling to match. The Citroen is probably fragile, but still a good performer too. The VW does what you expect and is well made and will last for years, but lacking performance. I would have the Peugeot.
@TheDiddlysquat I know what inflation is... but you said "1500-1600 quid in today's money" which I think you under estimated a lot for a 106Gti. 106's and Saxos carry a special high insurance tag nowadays because of high claim rates for young drivers in that type of car.

I done a quote on a Saxo VTS and VTR when I was 18 last year and I was quoted 5k for the vtr and 7k for the VTS. And thats with parking on a private drive way and all. Insurance companies really do rip you if you're under 21

I've never had the pleasure of driving a VTS but one of my ex GF had a VTR and it was absolutely awesome. Felt so much quicker than it actually was. I've got a MKV Golf R32 these days but I'd still love a VTR/S.
i haw teh polo, just mine is 6n2 year 2000 highline version, it has some new mods, new interor, but in general its quite the same, brakes are awesome, i have no problms with engine, runes good, its fast, it has enough power for a small car and its good in corners... its quite a solid car :)
The wheelbase is to short for any of them to handle really well, A small car with a front engine and front wheel drive, And with two people in the front! Under braking the backend would go loose, To easy.

And insurance is not necessarily different over there, but coverage is different, you r insured as an individual that covers you depending on your lifestyle and driving habits NOTHING to do with the car u drive affects your premium!

Mate, you don't know what you're on about, the Polo is a pile of wank, thats why the 106, Punto and Saxo have been much more popular, especially amongst younger people, and thats why there are also more of them on the road, and better examples of them than those crappy Polos.
The 106 is a fine car, and fun to drive, that goes for the Saxo too since its basically the same. Punto has slightly worse build (electrics), but is good, and the Polo is last, bottom of the pile

Yes I have driven one of the 106's, I own one. They are awesome to drive and always have more to give. The MK1 Golf is also awesome, but I've never got to drive one. My 106 has no power steering, no ABS, no traction control, as its not the GTI version. Just bare basic.

The wheelbase is to short for any of them to handle really well, A small car with a front engine and front wheel drive, And with two people in the front! Under braking the backend would go loose, To easy.

Brilliant!!! me and my best mate both bought the Saxos him VTR me VTS back in 1998 before all the chavs could offord them, they were wicked cars Id love a go now however the vtr was more driveable lower down plus his vtr definalty had a lower seating position which was realy strange plus that key pad wasnt on our cars think it was rubbish... The polo is a old womens car not totaly crap tho its just not a hot hatch years ago some bloke put a vr6 engine in one and aparently blew most things away.

Pros: wiegh nothing, are fun, handle well, easy to modify,cheap to insure and buy.
Cons: will probably get you killed with its 2 star n cat, its french (therefore electronics are sh1t), there no exactly modern anymore, cheap mods mean chavs can ruin them with lexus lights and halford alloys and general driving like cunts, chavy reputation (although true with any small cheap hatch really)

@Brendan3D STFU saxos are 4 star and not all saxos have cheap mods. a vts can do 0-60 in 5.7 seconds with mild mods and 140mph. faster than ya chav bangers 0-60 11.5 seconds and 110mph. fail

@Hardgit2765 first thing yes they are 2 star n-cap check the n-cap site. secondly I know for a fact that unless you run throttles bodioes or turbo with wild cams you not going to get near that sort of 0-60 speed. So your basically admiting your the sort of person that ruins the saxos reputation with figures you pulled out of ur ass and tastleless mods...

And secondly, yes they're cheap cars, but you have to remember all the 'chavs' seem to go for the 1.1 Saxo's rather then the VTS's and as you said, they then go and stick Halfords alloys etc on there, giving it its chavy reputation.

No... smaller cars are popular in the UK because of expensive petrol (gas). A UK litre costs the same as a US gallon today, that's the main reason.

i've lived in the US and the UK. This Summer whilst I was driving around Mississippi a gallon of petrol (4.5 litres) was around $2.30 what is that?! about £1.40!! and as the UK ONE litre cost's around £1 atm, our gallon is well close to £5.
First hand experience.
And insurance is not necessarily different over there, but coverage is different, you r insured as an individual that covers you depending on your lifestyle and driving habits NOTHING to do with the car u drive affects your premium!

The reason why the polo is slow is that it simply has a lame engine, and I donn't speak about chassis. Saxo, and 106 play in another league than the shitty Polo, or the Punto.

Oh yes, that Frensh shite. Mate, you don't know what you're on about, the Polo is a pile of wank, thats why the 106, Punto and Saxo have been much more popular, especially amongst younger people, and thats why there are also more of them on the road, and better examples of them than those crappy Polos.
The 106 is a fine car, and fun to drive, that goes for the Saxo too since its basically the same. Punto has slightly worse build (electrics), but is good, and the Polo is last, bottom of the pile

Yes I have driven one of the 106's, I own one. They are awesome to drive and always have more to give. The MK1 Golf is also awesome, but I've never got to drive one. My 106 has no power steering, no ABS, no traction control, as its not the GTI version. Just bare basic.
