I don't know why you guys can't just see the best in all Bond's instead of picking favorites, When I look at the age of Moore in the later ones, I don't think "Oh he's too old..." I think to myself, "This is what James Bond is doing at age 58 and it's Kick ass!", Every James Bond has their ups and downs, But each of them have their own Feel, and I love each and every one of them for that reason, Comparing Dalton and Moore is outrageous, They are two very different Bonds, same with Connery.
@ThePhatShack They were all great on their own, including Lazenby. They fit their time. I personally see no reason to boycott Craig as well, I don't care about his face nor his hair color, he kicks ass.
This one isn't remotely near as good as "If There Was a Man," a really beautiful song that would've been a hit and a classic if it had actually been on a Pretenders album.
John Barry co-qrote this song with the Pretenders and it was intended to be the played during the opening credits, but producers wanted the title of the movie mentioned in the theme song, so they went with A-Ha's song instead. This is still one of the best Bond songs of all time, and it's repeatedly heard throughout the score..
This song, this movie, these opening credits, this Bond, Necros... just about everything related to this movie kicked MAJOR ass.
Because of Necros's habit of always listening to this song on his Walkman when he's killing, and often strangling people with his headphones' cords (seriously durable headphone cords, eh?), I always refer to him as "the Walkman killer". XD
Of course, there's a reason why Dalton's Bond was monogamous in this one, it was a direct response to the rise in HIV and understandably they didn't want to promote 'sleeping around' as much, so of course Bond came off as more romantic. Dalton still rules as Bond either way...
I prefer Trevelyan/Janus from Goldeneye but Necros is way cooler. He listens to kick ass music when hes doing his job and in agreeance with Evilvillager the most badass milkman EVER!
No, Another Way to Die was one of the worst bond themes in years. And You Know My Name was mediocre. The best songs were Goldeneye, A View to a Kill, Goldfinger, and Live and Let Die.
i didn;'t like goldfinger. you know my name was catchy, man! goldeneye was so annoying! the best was live and let die, and tomorrow never dies was good too.
I think this song would have been a great opening theme. Firstly the song just seems to have that Bond feel with the background. Secondly, the Pretenders have band members from both US and UK where most fans of Bond are from. Lastly Ah Ha was on their way out, other than being a 1 hit wonder in US, hard for US fans to relate to them.
Timothy is my favourite Bond, him and Sean Connery. But the majority of 007 fans don't like him. They say he's not such a tough guy as, for example, Brosnan was. They also say that he was not so "sexually active" as Bond should be, but I think it's bullsh... t. The fact, that a handsome man respects women and treat them as partners, not as a sweet decoration or a sex- toy is a big valor.
I aggree. He is my fav as well. I felt he was more youthful like bond should be but without looking young. He was the best actor qualtiy wise where as sean connery took a decade or more for his acting to improve. The new one is quite good also and appropriate to terrorist times. Interesting how daniel craig employs the behavioural characteristics exemplified by Timothy such as his commitment to his own moral compass.
Wow, I thought I would never "meet" other fans Timothy Dalton as Bond. He was perfect, and always reminded me of the Bond in the Fleming books (I've read several). Connery was also close to the literary Bond, but Timothy was the more modern version.
have you ever read a James Bond novel? obviously not. James Bond is not and should never be politically correct.
Then, who says that Dalton wasn't tough enough or Brosnan was tougher? Are you kidding me? it's the opposite actually. You won't find a single fan forum of 007 stating this. get your facts right girl because you really seem confused. Dalton's Bond is the closest to Fleming's Bond. TLD is the last good 007 film, LTK sucks.
Another Dalton fan here. He exemplified what Bond is to me and he played the character more akin to the books. I certainly enjoyed Moore and Connery but Moore, as fun as his humour is, didn't seem real and Connery was too much the tough guy. Dalton had the right mix in my opinion. Still we Dalton fans are in the minority I think
Dalton was a real good 007. It's just that the story plots to TLD and LTK were a bit of a snore. Nothing but stopping big drug tranactions when it was all said and done, just like in LALD, and the "revenge for Felix" theme in LTK just never grabbed hold on me. Still good stuff though because of Dalton.
They didn't have to be a YOLT or Moonraker-like plot, going way over the top, another in the spirit of FRWL or FYEO would have worked much better.
i like connery better than dalton by far but yeah I get your point and I wish licence ta kill wasnt such a fail for him he wouldve been great in AVTAK
@kdum8 im a dalton fan ,too. im agree with all you wrote but i also think that Moore was a littlebit too old for the bond character in the late 70's and middle of the 80's . The bond character is between 35 and 45 years old, Moore in view to kill was 58 years old
Yeah, Dalton was probably the nearest Bond to Flemings ideal. He was asked to be bond before Moore, but was considered to be too young (bond is described as between 35 - 45). It seems to be feature of bond's as roger moore was asked to be the first bond, but was contracted to "the saint" and of course Brosnan was asked just before Dalton got the gig but was contracted to "remington steele"
Thank god Brosnan didn't get the gig before Dalton. We could have been stuck with him for around 20 years. His portrayal of Bond is very similar to Moore's. For me Brosnan wasn't tough enough or dark enough. If Dalton had done another couple of Bond movies he would have nailed it as most films in the early nineties were naff.
Connery? The grizzled milkman? That tattoo-ed Scottish coffin-polisher was no more convincing than the current incumbent, who has a face like five miles of bad road.
I'm sorry that I don't have a fetish with Moore, who couldn't even hold Connery's Jock if it came down to it. But since Connery doesn't wear one I guess we'll never know.
In my humble opinion, the soundtrack for the living daylights is arguably the best made by John Barry, it mixes the three songs into the score, this song as the leitmotif for Necros, A-ha's The Living Daylights for the action sequences, and If There Was a Man as a love theme, all of them blended with The James Bond Theme create a shaken and stirred soundtrack. Nice video.
Oh right, coz of course James Bond is Eng- OH WAIT NO HE'S NOT.
He was Scottish. Read the books.
Dalton was famous for fulfilling every physical characteristic, i.e. height, eye colour, hair colour etc. and he also kept a copy of one of Fleming's books on hand during the filming.
Lol, well Bond's father was supposed to have been Scottish and his mother Swiss, and he brought up in England. Fleming had Scottish ancestry so it is perhaps why he modelled everyone's favourite hero with that lineage too.
That "wah wah wah" is a trademark of John Barry's in many of his Bond soundtracks! This was my favorite Bond soundtrack right up there with "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and "Goldfinger."
This theme is far better than A-ha song. The only issue that i have with this song is that is too much broody to be the main title, altough this theme appears much more time in the movie than a-ha song.

I LOVE this song! "The Living Daylights" came out about the same time an old girlfriend's husband died in a motorcycle accident.
I dedicated this song to him, because I was glad he was gone!
Everytime I hear it, I think of how happy it made me feel at the time!
