I would like to claryfy you shouldn't be so mean about mark becker look what he did was not okay but he had a thing wear he here's voices from the devil that tell him to do bad stuff so half of the time he can't control himself so back off btw live in parkersburg
To you disgusting people who think you are benefiting anyone with your hatred towards Becker, realize that filling your heart with resentment and hatred won't help anything or anyone. You may not forgive him for what he did, but I guarantee Ed has, the Thomas family has, and God has. This is a tragedy, but it's not something that will condemn him to hell, especially with such an amazing man pulling for him up there. Grow up people.
@jtal00007 Please do not be rude. Mr. Becker is an ill human being. He deserves to get better. Don't you think that was what Coach Tomas would Have wanted.
I'm not going to resort to hate...Instead I'll use Ed's example as motivation in my own coaching career, which will in turn, positively affect the lives of thousands more young men that I'll coach for the next 40 some years. There are ways we can all pull blessings from Coach Thomas' death.
Your right. I posted this when I was mad, and I didn't mean it. Ed's in a better place now. It's just really low what he did. Killing a coach who just got his team back up after a big tornado. He was Heroic.
we play the falcons on friday, we are selling memorial stickers for our helmets feel free to put in on your vehicle, your equiptment or just to symbolise that he is in your heart. it reads "E.T." well be giving them as a charity donations are accepted
My father also coached football, I was his assistant quarterback coach for three years, and he was also at the same athletic conference, so I guess we all three were there together. I relocated to Oklahoma, a took a head coaching job with a NAIA division 1 college team. My father has since passed . God Bless the Thomas Family, The Town, and his team, friends and students at the school. I believe that he was a good man. Keep him in your heart and remember him like that.
I am just a few years younger Than Coach Thomas. I coached HS football for a few years and it began to make me think. What If? Why? I don't have an anwser. But I was fortunate enough to meet Coach Thomas at a HS athletic conference, and he was the genuine article. We both had the same last name and so when somebody would call out for coach Thomas both our heads turned at the same time. So we sat and ate together. I wish I had got to know him a bit better. Our Prayers go out to his family.
He was the coach of one of our Green Bay Packer linesmen. Aaron said the Ed's greatest legacy will be that Ed was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ on and off the field.
I think is terribly sad that all the news can report is the celebrity stuff but hide away stories of people like Ed Thomas.
I'm 40 yrs old, and played a lot of football and baseball when I was young. I lived in Cedar Rapids, IA for a short time 73-76'. I just read this story an hour ago, and it deeply saddens me to see this kind of stuff happen, & much too often. I have no idea what gets into the heads of young ppl these days, because you rarely if ever heard a story like this in the 70's or 80's when I was growing up. My heart go's out to Ed's family and the ppl that knew him. WTF?
ed thomas was not a jerk to any body he treated his stars and benchwarmers the same. he was very good. Our football team played them and they killed us and not litterly i shoudn't say kill but the destroyed us. O this is a terrible loss. 7:45 surveys the weight room 7:46 pulls out gun out of car. 7:47 shoot Ed thomas 8 times and runs to parents house sits in car. arrested sometime between then and 9:00. wow. He was one of the best coaches in iowa history.
I didn't even know this guy except from watching this video and reading stories about him and his former players who are in the NFL now....and today I just feel an incredible sadness in my heart and have even had to choke back some tears. So I can only imagine how much harder it is for all those people and family and friends. My deepest sympathies are with all of you.
Aplington is my home town .... Coach Thomas was an ICON .... a hero .... a genuine GREAT man. This is unreal ... such a HUGE loss. GOD BLESS HIS FAMILY & the communities. R.I.P. Coach!

rawbery,So, you hope I "rot in hell" because I responded with questions that even the police were thinking. Shame on you I am glad you are not God. Don't hate it is very ugly. Forget the crazy shooter some youtubers act crazy.

its simple... kid gets pushed too hard, he holds a grudge he guns him down..
obviously what the kid did was completely wrong and unjustified, I've had coaches who were jerks to me, but you have to learn to just sit back and deal with it. same goes for any situation whether it be in school or in the work place, just becaues u feel "wronged" by someone doesnt mean you got the right to shoot them.
but in all fairness, he looks like he was a good coach.
being from the community, i can tell you, that was not the case, the were psychological issues that may or may not be released, but it was not about being bullied or a grudge. believe me. thoughts and prayers out to everyone that this affects.
RIP Coach Ed Thomas my cooperating teacher played for him and thought the world of him. He's one of those people that I didn't know but I felt like I knew him. Rest in Peace Coach!
