Hey Jared, could you please provide the sheet music link? I cannot see this? In particular the orchestration around the kit of the 16th note triplet doubles...Thanks
Jared, I got to say, you are by far, one of the best drummers I have ever seen. Your technique is brilliant. And your attitude and personality are really great. You never fail to provide good quality tips and tricks that help other drummers around the world. Bless ya man
Man this video is awesome. I am a decent drummer but have learned everything on my own. I am wanting to start learning how to properly do fill like the last part of this video, problem is I have single stroke speed but not and can somewhat make it sound similar but just not the clean (proper technic) sound...
its funny because i have seen this video multiple times and one for regular triplets, at first i didnt understand why it was so hard, but after a short coinsedince i just played it .
CALLING ALL DRUMMERS.... As you can probably tell from my acount name, im Jack - And im a drummer! Im a small youtuber who mainly does cover stuff, and it would mean the world if some of you (No matter what level of experience) could check out some of my videos and give me some constructive feedback? :)
I don't know Jared personally but he comes across on video as a guy who has such the right attitude about drumming and the drumming community. To do what he does, one has to be able to withstand stupid criticisms which may or may not hold water. By stepping out and up to share something that helped him, he perpetuates the brotherhood of drummers and hopefully inspires others not to hold their knowledge so close to their vests.
i've been watching your youtube vids for almost a year now. Just wanted to say THANKS for all the great stuff you cram into our heads. Really excellent lessons you have. Keep up the wonderful work. To the untrained ear I actually sound like I know what I'm doing now on a kit.
thanks Jared, I purchased your rock drumming system 6 months ago and find it invaluable, and along with your videos here I am very grateful for your efforts in teaching others, you certainly make a big difference to my adult learning curve (I'm 48!) thanks again keep up the good work
Those double stroke fills are very nice. Oddly, what I really admired was the great hi-hat playing you were doing near the end of the video in the grooves. Very nice job, man. Great teaching.
this is so awesome man! love the last fills ...now I want to try this out too...but my hands arent as calm as yours i tend to use more wrists and the power of rebound (lol) than finger technique (cause my left hand refuses to learn how to play the stick with its fingers (bummer))
The 2 people who disliked this must hate Nick Swardson, Nick Swardson's awesome brand of comedy, and Nick Swardson's excellent drumming...how can anyone dislike this????? Nick is awesome!!!
3:58 how the hell do you do that awesome accenting on the hi hat, I've been trying to do stuff like that for ages! Could you make a video on it perhaps? Love your videos by the way! I'm an ok drummer, but taught myself, so have no technique (paradiddles and stuff) and your vids have really helped! : )
What line are your crashes? I know they're Paistes, but like 2002's or what? I really dig the sound, and want to look into getting them if I can find out what they are. Thanks in advance for any help, and keep up the awesome vids.
First off, I've watched so many of your videos and I REALLY respect what you do, Jared. Drum tips for free?! You wouldn't get that anywhere! The very few drums lessons I DID get were so expensive.
After watching the Linear Drum fill, I see you were using a pedal (Not sure what make) that had a Direct Drive instead of a chain, if I'm correct? Or something similar to that? What are your views on Direct Drive over Chain/Double Chain? Just looked into Axis Pedals...SOO expensive... Thanks man!! :)
@snakespence The pedals I'm using are Gibraltar Intruder Direct Drive pedals. By far the most affordable direct drive pedal on the market. Also, check out the direct drive Yamaha Flying Dragons...those are really nice as well.
Good vid, but I find your demonstration of a double stroke roll at 0:26 very misleading. The clue is to open/close the hand on first and second stroke to use the rebound for the second stroke. One should never play out of the wrist like you do in 0:26, but out of the fingers.
@securitysystem Glad you like the vid..however, I completely disagree with you. Drummers can play out with the wrists if that's what they need to do to achieve the power and volume that they want. There aren't rules like that. There is not only one way to hold the sticks, there is not only one way to play a single stroke roll, and there is not only one way to play a double stroke roll...there are thousands. Thanks for your constructive feedback though! All the best!
You are actually right in what you say: "Whatever works best is right." But as I see in the vid, you also do not play the second stroke from the wrist, except for the very slow demo in the beginning.
The idea behind my post is keeping young kids from trying to make 2 strokes solely from the wrist and failing in gaining speed, wondering why. ;)
@securitysystem Ahhh....I see what you're saying. Thanks SO much for sharing man. Those are definitely some good words of wisdom. At a certain point, yes, you will have to bounce the second stroke.
@HitDatSnare nothing is wrong with that, you just get less rebound off the bigger drums like the mid tom or the floor tom. So you don't get as much volume out of the bouncing strokes as you would out of the wrist strokes.
That's why in these examples I mainly use wrists as I want to play on all the drums.
Each and everything you guys post is informative, and just downright great! It's so good to see folks with the same passion for drumming that I have doing all they can to help folks learn! Thanks! Keep up the good work, guys! :D
it sure keeps motivating me! thanks for showing me a new thing to practice on my kit and not get bored. I always love to watch your videos and appreaciate your great druming :)
Great lesson dude. Can you explain how you are executing the double stroke roll please? Is it fingers, throw-pull, wrist or something else? Thanks :-)
@BeechCustom74 these are mostly wrists, with a small amount of fingers. Hopefully I'll get to do a video in the next couple weeks to explain more. In the meantime, this exercise can be played with your wrists at any tempo. Just start slow and you'll get it.
love the cymbals and great work mic'ing and eq'ing the drums! haha youtube should add a "love" button because this excersize is my favorite one you have posted so far!
@namelessH3R0 it's possible but the cost would probably be too high. I'd recommend trying to find a kit locally. Check out customdrums dot de - I've played their kits before and they're awesome.
Heh, I was expecting a mention of the whole double stroke technique; the use of the fingers to get the speed you want over use of the wrist. Some poor guy is gonna watch this, see those 32nd notes, and break their wrists trying to get that fast!
@JackandMatty not in this lesson as it's not about developing double stroke roll speed. Perhaps I can talk about that in another lesson :) Anyone can this, regardless of how fast you can play the exercise.
@freedrumlessons a lesson about using fingers to attain the speed necessary to achieve the 32nd notes would be awesome. my double strokes could really use some help in that area as my finger technique isn't all that good
@x2xdrummer4life Nope, it actually is a dw kit. It belongs to Jared (he talked about it in some older videos). Casey drums don't have the round lugs. I wonder what happened to that Casey kit they had though.
The current live lessons are for drumming system and drum fill system users only. For the free live lessons, there will be an announcement in general drumming section on freedrumlessons. com/drum-forums.
