  • Praised be Morrigan, our Dark Mother!

The pain and pleasure become one in your arms My Goddess. For Death is as beautiful as Birth.

:DD Awesome performance! you girls are the best! Thanks for keeping such art alive and bring memories of such a beautiful culture.

  • This was breathtakingly primal, earthy, raw and intense. Stellar job!

Oh, and could someone please tell me which Dead can Dance song that was?

  • I loved it as it was very enchanting

  • All Hail Morrigan!

    All Hail the Tuatha-De-Danann!

  • Thank you for your cool comment. Love Ishtar x

  • Well, well. I recall my youth, growing up in the mountains, separated from the outside world, born Pagan, self-raised through childhood. Initially self-trained as a swordsman, my sparring partner being the infamous Lin, Vrajitoare of Wednesbury, Scourge of Transylvania, a darling girl, like my sister. Praise be to The Morrigan, to dance, to battle and to art. I must go show her this.

  • Hi. Thanks for the comment. I am glad it stimulated a stream of consciousness about your youth. It sounds like you have led a very interesting life indeed. Praise be! to the metaphore of battle, dance , art and choreography. Praise to Morrigan the destroyer of negative addicitions.

  • I think the choreography was a wonderful combination: the dance of female warriors with the right combination of aggresivity and seduction, setting us in an older time through their costumes, the rythm and swords... As a martial artist I particularly enjoyed the flow of their moves through the kicking movements. Lovely! This is why dance is an Art.

  • Hi darling! So glad you enjoyed our dance. I love your intepretation and analysis. Thank you so much for your comments!

    Love,

    Ishtar xxx

  • Well, speaking as one who is in no way a Celt (I'm Black/Filippina), I have to say I liked it a lot! I'm a little confused about the heated discussion about "historical acuracy," though. What does it matter what form the art takes as long as it was heart-felt? And the heart was quite obviously in that wonderful performance! Thank you for sharing this video!

  • Me too!!! We never set out to create a peice of archeology. The heart is honest and what comes from it is true. Your true heart resonates with mine friend.

    Love,

    Ishtar xxx

  • i can't resist the thought that the supposed matriarchy was doomed to pass away, as much as our male dominated world. you can't make art out of war. it does't make sense. sorry. nevertheless an interesting dance.

  • So why do you think martial ARTS are defined so? The future society will honour both the male and the female , the god and the goddess. I find the male and female power in my self and I love them both.

    Nameste!

    Ishtar.

  • You sound like a very interesting guy . Thank you for your very sexy comments x

  • I believe Goddess Morrigan appeared in the dance. if u look closely at the right hand side corner, when those dancer race their hands, a dark figure with long dark hair appears and then she disappeared. It doesn't matter if we mix the dance, its still a Celtic dance and it was meant for the Goddess. What comes in our heart is much more important.

    Blessed Be.

  • Wow I know what you mean i noticed this also! Thank you so much for your great comments.

    Blessings and love,

    Ishtar x

  • where was it, like what was the time of it?

  • Top or bottom? Anyway awesome dance

  • I watched it (I think a little to hard) and I didn't see her. Can you please tell exactly what time it was?

    ~~)O(~~ Merry Meet. Blessed Be.

  • Good video girl. Yes the woman where great warriors till the 800ad. Apart from that, you hav`t much idea on Celts. I`m a Welshman. A true Celt

  • there were fighting women wasnt just celts that said it but romans but still... BELLY danceing? fuck you want to keep celtic culture yet you mix it with eatern stuff? not impressive

  • Wow! What a wordsmith!!! I take it you do a lot of reading LOl!!!

  • They actually did a lot of tribal dances. Just like in Africa. For example War dances, celebration, etc.

It is a form of dance. I think it's beautiful. I belly myslef and it's harder than it looks.

  • it is art... and you can take liscence... relax... let people do there thing as long as they are not hurting anyone...and be inspired to be brave enough to do your own thing

  • Thanks for your intelligent and spiritual responce,

    Love,

    Ishtar x

  • Oh wow fat chicks pretending to be special because they took tard dancing down at the Y, or community college. Women are breeders nothing else!

  • Tis a great pity your mother bred a sad dysfunctional little misogynist such as your self. I doubt some one as unappealing as your self will ever find a women willing to breed with you!

  • I don't doubt that there weren't fighting women or seductresses at all in Iron Age Britain. As inspiration to your piece, I still find it hard to think that they belly-danced?

What do I do to honour the ancient peoples from the past? Probably not as much as you. But I do try to make sure they aren't portrayed incorrectly doing the 'raks baladi'.

As for belly dancing evidence in the archaeological record - I would be most interested to see your reference.

  • Celts did not dance to 'Near Eastern' music. Isn't belly dancing a relatively recent phenomenon? Why associate the dance of ultimate seduction, with Celts? Leather? Does anybody do any 'background' research nowadays???

  • Oh no another sad you tube know all!! This is a fantasy peice, by Celtic women. Not archeology!!! the second peice is performed by a scottish all women drum group. Read your celtic mythology you will find stories of fighting women and seductresses which inspired the peice.Belly dance is as ancient as human history.

  • Did the 'Keltoi' really perform to music with such strong influences from the Near East? Belly dancing 'aint ancient, nor Celtic. In fact, I feel compelled to state that this performance not only misrepresents our ancesters, but insults them!

  • How do you know what insults or pleases the ancestors? Dance is a gift which those who are tuned into its power will understand Evidence of European neolithic belly dance has been found in archeological research. if you were a musicologist you would recognise neither peice to be middle eastern music. The second is a scottish drum band. What do you do to honour your ancestors? send me a video responce I would love to see it.

  • You got me. I was drunk when I wrote the message - so I must apologise.

  • I'd be interested to know what archeological evidence you found regarding belly dancing in neolithic Europe. "It's like the existence of Paleolithic Venuses is no more evidence of a goddess-centered culture than the pictures and bones of bears proves a divine bear-centered Paleolithic culture." ~ Wicca: For the Rest of Us

  • Put Egtved Girl into google for the 'evidence' you require re belly dance in ancient Europe. Male/monotheistic centred archeology often despiritulises the obviously female devotional figures found from the period. My heart and spirit connects with them, the evidence for me is how I feel about them now.

  • Belly dance is roughly about 100 years old. Sure, some of the movements of belly dance may have existed thousands of years ago, but raqs sharqi as we know it is no older than a century.

The Egtved Girl was just the remains of some nordic bronze age girl - what does that have to do with belly dance?

I understand that you're creating art here, but you shouldn't make claims that history can't back up. I fully support your dancing, but not your misconception of the Celts.

  • You speak as if you are THE authority on every thing. The Egtved girl was wearing a belly dance costume hence the ref. I have an academic and scientific background and I CAN back up what I say. However I realise all reality is created in our minds, which are all unique .Many of our ideas we feel are ours have came from other people. You can have your mundane explainations. I however will listen to my heart as I find it more truthful than my mind.

  • Che pena...

  • What is the music?

  • The music is by The dead can dance ,followed by Sheboom, Scottish all women drum group.

  • johmah999, don't make me laugh! This sounds just like some publicity for your book - which, if your spelling is anything to go by, I think I'll pass on.

Go back to playing dress-up with your want-to-be witches and warlocks.

I don't think that my Celtic ancestors would be too impressed with being called "soft in heart and soul"!!! Personally, I will treat this comment with the contempt it deserves.

  • Cool you mentioned that, Thanks x

  • You are a misgynostic old man , who is jealous of strong women. My Irish family would make mince meat of you. How dare you as an American(warrior race?) think you can write about our culture. Also how dare you presume to comment on the nature of our heart and soul old man. You have no idea about the life of the warrior I have lived since I was born.

  • American is not a race. We are a mixture of different people. I'm American born and raised, but my father is Scottish and my mother is Irish. Does that make me less of Celtic blood and heritage than you? Heh.

But regardless of your opinion on that, I liked your piece. It's really original! :)

  • Thanks for that.Yes you live in a diverse civilization. American's swear allegiance to the flag daily, individual ethnic origins are secondary to the identity that is American. We are our genetics, but we are also our cultural conditioning and a response to the land where we live. However, In the holographic theory of life, we are all one and can tap into any mythology we like, we are all human. (Even if Bush et al thinks Americans are more human than everyone else.)

  • Why not meet up with us and we will show we how soft we are. We are all of Celtic descent and live in Liverpool which is not known for people with 'soft' hearts and souls. I think if you said this to our faces you would realise.

  • don't mess with these women! powerful dance.

  • OMG!!!! This is great!! I've not seen anything like this before.

  • this is really powerful
