The Furs' original version is much better; I don't know why the movie made the band re-record the song. The original is available here on you tube, but the site won't allow me to post the link in this comment.
This was the most amazing concert, last night @ the Cats Cradle.Even better to hang out with Rich, and Miles, and for Rich to get my 1981 Talk Talk Talk Record signed by the whole band. This record was my fist LP my mom purchased for me when I was 13 back in 85. Hell of a concert !!! :]
Whenever I watch a video from a past decade, the number 1 comment is almost always something like " Wow! the __ was the best decade ever for music!" I don't think one decade is necessarily better than another. I just think whatever music you were listening to between the ages of 12 and 22 is what your going to hold onto. That being said, God I miss the 90’s hey-day of grunge!
it's sucks to be born in the 90s. i wish i was born in the 60s or something so i could enjoy music from the 70s and 80s at that time and avoid seeing Lady Gaga posters on the streets or Katy Perry videos on TV
GREAT tune, but the re-recording has too little of the original's flair! John Hughes had such a keen ear for soundtrack, why didn't he lobby for the original?
@dannymiller1950 I'm only 27 but I don't see 37 as being old. Age is just a number, true age is in someone's heart. Most people feel the need to grow up or act more mature. I find that yes you have to be mature as far as work or adult situations are concern i.e. bills etc. but if you still laugh, love, and enjoy your spare time who cares what number represents you. God willing if I see 37 I know I'll still be the same person I am today, maybe more wise but still my goofball self.
@ChevyDerald VERY wise words my friend!!! I appreciate them and needed to hear that. I'm the same age as Danny and I can say that sometimes when we looks at these videos, it's hard to believe that so much time has gone by. I just thought to myself that Pretty In Pink(movie) was 25yrs ago. *smh* Damn, it even hurts to say that!! LOL!!! BUT, you are ABSOLUTELY right about age just being a number. Even with maturity, you're still you at 27,37,47,57,67.....it's how you live that counts!! = ) *HUGS*
I'm surprised anyone remembers Muppet Babies! That was my show as an 80's child! I liked parts of the 90's as well-1993 to 1996 were the best years of my teenhood. And there were some good 90's bands in the alternative rock genre...Lush, The La's, Blur, Nirvana. It's a shame that the 90's flew by so fast and are somewhat forgotten! There was a sort of hippie revival in that decade that also faded fast...I visited Berkeley, CA often during that time, and it's so different in Berkeley now!
@hiracktoman9 i tried to tell someone about the shirt tales and gummy bears cartoons...they had to youtube them cause they didnt actually belive there was a gummy bear cartoon...makes me feel old
@hiracktoman9 I loved the hippie revival in the 90's! Blind Melon, Phish, Aleka's Attic and many other 90's hippy bands got me into Hendrix and Grateful Dead and all the old school greats. 80's and 90's were great decades for creativity in music and art and film.
They really need to do a sequel to this movie, high school reunion and Andie is a famous fashion designer now and Ducky is a DJ, please, please make a sequel to this !!!!!
If I could go back in time, knowing what I know now, how differently I would have turned out ( still not all that badly ), how differently I would have done certain things, handled people differently and this music brings it all back for me,I guess we all wish that we could have done things differently, but this music, The Furs, just drive me back to a place in time,,,,,,,,Man how I wished I had listened to my Mother !!
Yes, the original version was better, but I would gladly settle for this one given the state of things today. I don't think I fully realized how awesome times were back then, but I would certainly go back in a second if I could. Did anyone ever watch The Young Ones on MTV?
I remember the first day MTV went on the air when I was at school....what a revelation. And the first time Pat Benatar broke bad on the pimp in Love is a Battlefield. And the Psychedelic Furs in concert (I was @ school in Richmond, VA), Black Flag, the guys from GWAR before they were famous, Slam Dancing to Romeo Void "Never Say Never" & screaming "I might like you better if we slept together"...up in each others faces. Then of course, most of us DID sleep together at some point and it WORKED !!
awsomely good group and song.take it from me that most of the posters who post cynical crap about 80's videos are 70's hippies who still think crosby ,stills and nash and simon and garfarkle are the coolest singers ever/jeeesh!!!//i'm 56 and in 1980 i wasn't even 30 yet./i lived through the 70's and 80's and let me say that the 80's were totally awesome./i forgot all about the 70's when MTV came along in 1981.the 70's suck..trust me/ the 80's rock!!.and yes-today's music sucks hamster nuts!!
@virginiaxvita did they play their hits? I saw them in the 80s and go figure, they did not play this song, Heartbreak Beat, Love My Way or any of the stuff I really wanted to hear..... I mean, good for them for 'artistic integrity' but not so much for their fans, LOL....

But the 80's were always in my heart. I am now in my 30's
@AmericanEvita lol thats exeactly how i feel dam i miss those days and coming home from school and watching those cartoons ugh i need a time machine hahaha
@AmericanEvita You said it best. I was in school during the best years of the 80's - I cannot imagine growing up any other way. I sorta feel sorry for today's music - it just does not have it's own originality, and recording studios just pump out vocals that depend way too much on computer technology to make it sound decent....
I wish I was around back then. Everything had feeling behind it. One amazing 80s hit after the other. Its like something happened that caused a wave of spectacular music and films and now it is gone. Nothing lives up to 80s..I wish they could go back to what they used back then to make it as it was. Maybe just feeling, emotion, heart. That is missing a lot in the world these days and maybe that is why. Black Eyed Peas "where is the love" is only good song I heard recently. Good because its true.
@sissyfit89 It was a great time! I feel bad for kids today that they couldn't grow up in the 80s, it was still a fun, innocent crazy time. I'm 36 years old now and wish things could be how they were then. We didn't have cell phones, the internet, email, Twitter, Facebook, etc. but we somehow managed to still have fun!!
Love this song, wish we could go back to the 80's and undo the mistakes, like the marriage, and following losers around and instead going for the best friend ever and seeing him in a different light!
best music. back in the day, live music sounded the same as what was on the record. now a days, live music sounds like SHIT compared to what's played on the radio or cds.
All Hail the Duck Man! Such a cool character. How comes James Spader was in so damn many Brat Pack movies, but was never considered to be one of the Pack? He had more talent than any of them and does to this day. Blaine!? That's not a name, it's a household appliance. LMAO
.............isn't she.............. I missed the pistols & the 'clash' but found this & John Hughes Films, Tony Hawk, Stevie Haston, Vespa T-5 & nearly a loving marriage...never let go of your dreams,,,,,,,,,,
I have been a Furs fan since i was 11.i'm almost 39.I have a sentimental attachment to this song, this version because i loved the movie "Pretty In Pink"i related to it.Richard Butler is an amazing talent and a beautiful soul.
yeah todays generation sux with the music, 80 s and 90 s had better tunes coming out, now it emo this and emo that, when will they realize emo is just goth , new wave , and punk imitations
the original version of this song is about 1000x better. why oh why did they re-record this totally watered down version? the original was brilliant, they shouldnt have touched it!!
i really hate the new mellennium it just sucks i wish i was a teen in the 80's especially to go c def leppard live along with all the other ggod bands in the 80's
@Spartacus217 I hate to say it, since I really didn't care for Mannequin and Weekend at Bernies like I do for a Molly Ringwald film, but Andrew McCarthy was better in those than he was in Pretty in Pink.
I'm with Zedsdead1968. I'd go back to the 80's and stay there if I could...
MTV was just a simple show with simple videos of AWESOME songs. It was shown on 1 channel in Aussie, it rocked, had real music ALL night till dawn. We would all go back to my joint and watch tunes till dawn drinkin beers that are no longer around. We did this 3-4 nights a week for something like 12 years+... I miss it those simple times.
WOW! You managed to stay in the 80s for 12 whole years?! You need to publish your technology that made that possible. I think everyone who commented on this page would pay to go back to the 80s. You'd be rich.
@krisroxshow you are a smart man, I lived through the 80s, was a skin head, punk and romantic, saw these guys, saw the pistols, saw and lived it all, now I'm 54, and love to read comments like yours, seems if a 17 year old likes my old stuff, then it must have been good, good luck to you, I hope you listen to Clash, Jam, and New order
It is pitty this video has a poor quality. Imo this version is better, because the guitar plays more like a guitar than in the original version. I mean the main guitar passage.
1980's was one of the best decades. Ronald Regan, jelly slip ons, gaming consoles, apple iic, ford pintos, mall rats, arcades, Phoebe Cates, Aqua Net, Public Image T shirts, velcro wallets, ET, etc. The bomb!
@1usc2 Great list! I'd also add Izod shirts, Rubick's Cube, Sperry Topsiders, John McEnroe, Sony Walkman, Swatch, Warhol, Polo cologne, the GoGos, etc!
James Spader <3

This movie is chicken soup for the 20th century kid's soul. Jon Cryer was an epic doosh tho. Guns Gershon was the unsung hero in this film.

best music. back in the day, live music sounded the same as what was on the record. now a days, live music sounds like SHIT compared to what's played on the radio or cds.

All Hail the Duck Man! Such a cool character. How comes James Spader was in so damn many Brat Pack movies, but was never considered to be one of the Pack? He had more talent than any of them and does to this day. Blaine!? That's not a name, it's a household appliance. LMAO

@Spartacus217 sort of. he always look like he was going to wet his pants. i think he was a bed-wetter...
trentigalaxy 1 year ago

Modern times, the world is full of lemmings...
Oh god I'm depressed now.
