Dolly is pretty good, but you have to deal with ground surface and takes too long to set it up. A steadicam is more versatile, but it is harder to operate. However, if you desperately wanna good steadishot in ANY situation, get yourself a steadicam.

I went and saw 21 tonight just because I watch so many of the indy videos. it's actually not bad at all...

in any respect you can also modify the wheels on the dolly and create a track on the ground to make sure your shots are dead on straight and there is little risk of wobble. This method is only limited by the type of track that you are using. so you want a smooth shot that moves around your actors? make a curved track.
