  • @ scottman 690, his V8 is faster. My V8 is bigger and faster.

  • LOL I remember dragging an 01 civic sir to the next set of lights,,,he pulls up and is like "taurus's are not supposed to be that loud and fast" they are def. a sleeper

  • nice!

  • i love fast fords but a front mounted v8 with front wheel drive and automatic sounds like something u take to the burger joint and back

  • @pretty00lights I had a 99 sho and it did a little more than go the burger joint and back. mine would stomp on mustangs and iroc camaros all day long. these are sleeper cars.

  • Do like the SHO's but what I just dont get is hooking up a car to a dyno and doing a video, let alone posting it, and not showing the results, what are the specs? Even if it only SHOws 182 rwhp sho it dude we know the cars fast and cool. There are enough idiots out there who claim to have an rv cam or 3 quarter race cam and their car does low 12's, and we all know they would be lucky to break into 15's, just very disappointed in dyno videos which dont post the outcome. Do like this SHO & paint

  • @gdwordsmith1 well if you had read the description you will see that it threw down around 205 to 210 whp. Sorry i do not remember all that paul had done to his car.

  • @jaadams72 thats all it made??? thats kinda on the low end dontcha think? hell my Hyundai Sonata has 240 and its a 3.3l v6 and that sho has a v8?? something about that dont seem right..

  • @AdmiralKakarot they were 235 hp at the flywheel so 210 wheel horsepower is not bad with some mods. the difference between your v6 and this v8 is .1 liter 5 hp extra in yours and nearly the same torque. just because an engine has more cylinders does not mean it is going to be better than a Like-sized engine with less cylinders. The biggest problem with this motor was air flow through the cylinder heads. look at the 2.2L in the S2000 it makes 237 hp at the flywheel. it is all engineering

  • @jaadams72 well alright i guess that makes sense. imagine if that had the new 3.5l sho V6. betcha that fucker would fly

  • @AdmiralKakarot For sure 350 hp would have been awesome lol

  • @jaadams72 i know right? i i found out here the other day that the F-150 XL can use the same engine for far less cash. you can bet that i was fucking drooling

  • @jaadams72 yea, the S2k isnt bad. but its main reason for power is the ford block it uses. out of the cosworth.

  • @AdmiralKakarot like some of the old V12's have fuckin under 150

  • @xXxchipperchopperxXx i know right? one would think that a V12 would be in the 1000 HP mark

  • @AdmiralKakarot yup you floor it and you get waste like 5 gallons of gas in a few seconds

  • @gdwordsmith1 you know what, it sounds fuckin awesome, thats why

  • @gdwordsmith1 "182 rwhp" ? its a front weel drive car.

  • @gdwordsmith1 Hey buddy, read the description, and plus...not sure how just exactly how many "rwhp" you would obtain on a FWD vehicle...haha

  • That SHO does sound pretty awsome!

  • My 99 SHO (3.4L V8) has 110K miles and still runs just as strong as when it was new! I LOVE these cars!

  • I learn something new everyday man.....i never ever knew there was a v8 front wheel drive vehicle...let alone it BE A FUCKING taurus..badass man

  • Did all 3rd Gen SHO's come standard with sunroofs? Or were they optional? I haven't seen a single SHO without a Sunroof.

  • @themoparguy

it is rare but yes i know they have because I test Drove a White 97 with no sunroof and cloth interior.

  • @jaadams72 You think perhaps the SHO you test drove was a special ordered car?

  • @themoparguy this very well could be but there were low option SHOs.

  • @jaadams72 I see. That's too bad. I have a 99 Taurus SE with the 3.0L 24V Duratec. Ever since I got a hold of that one, I've been into Tauruses ever since. I would sure like to find one some day, but a lot of them are high mileage. And I just can't accept a sunroof.

  • hell ya man i got a 99 taurus duratec also.... and i gota say its fun when u beat sport cars with it haha

  • @xTHECodyx Yeah I have to say, the Deratec alone had a lot of guts. Sounds like a beast for just a V6. Probably the meanest sounding stock V6 I've ever heard.

  • These were the most gutless of the SHO's

  • O_O

  • I came a little...

  • holy cow, i have the exact same car (same colour to :)) and when it shifts into second or third, it sounds like it is almost going to stall then gets the revs back up then does it again :P this sounds so solid is gorgeous!!

  • I wonder how an SHO V8 would sound with 180* headers...

  • Hi Angrod!

  • LOL.....these engines were Ford casting block and Yamaha heads. The block is a Cosworth design. The cams were the same design as the cams in a Yamaha dirt bike and that is why they fail. The gears are pressed onto a hollow tube. The side load causes them to walk if not welded. It is not a Yamaha motor. Yamaha heads only on a aluminium Ford casting Cosworth process designed block.

  • cams are ford do your homework before you go posting this crap... heads were yamaha only

  • Do your homework, homer. I know every nut and bolt on a 97 SHO and its origin and who made what. See, I own a 97, homer and I have jumped thru all the hoops over two years ago on these engines. Homework....LOL....no homework needed when I have been inside of these engines and have tried to order parts for them that don't exist. Speak to Doug at FPM in Atlanta who builds these very cars. HEADS ARE YAMAHA 100%. I have completed your homework assignment 4 u now so you can go to 4th grade.

  • Haha, if he was flooring it on the road, people would be looking for a big truck, or a muscle car, lmao. Sounds nice as shit.

  • Comment removed

  • the spoiler looks so funny. lol.

  • is that a stock exhaust?

  • wicked!!

  • these things kick ass i wanted a 300m but im glad i got me a sho insted

  • wtf is wrong with u?

    its a ford taurus lol

  • hey man what type of flowmasters on there

  • what was the size of these v8's they were around 4.0's or something right?

  • 3.4 to be exact

  • wow they were mini v8's they probably revved pretty high.

  • Redline is around 7 grand

  • That was for the accessories, they techincally can hit 8-9. I'm not a SHO guru, but thats from what I've seen in a couple tech documents.

  • I know the V6 SHO engine can rev up to 9k, and was actually stress tested at 11k during development with minimal load. Not sure about the V8 though.

  • Yeah but I hot mine at 8.5k by slap shifting it by accident and it reved like it was nothing.

  • @ChrisLamps 3.5 i believe or 3.4

  • Numbers please??? That was stupid. That's like watching a basketball game & not caring what the score is...

  • fuck yea fuck mazdas ford taurus all the way

  • hey u guys think this can smoke a mazda rx8???

  • What hwhere the numbers? P.S SOUNDS FUCKING AWSOME!

  • Gen3 sho's are really nice cars, but my 3100 ciera will run with this sho with 2 less cylinders, and less technology.and no it is not a stock 3100,and yes i drive it to work everyday.

  • Ok APONTIAC... Questions. Is your Maxima as fast as a 2000 Max? Does it have as much HP as the 2000 Max or SHO V8? The Taurus has a LOWER Drag Coefficient then your '97. And because of its slippery ovular design has a nice top end, even though its ONLY 235hp ! Does your Maxima have 235 HP? Or can you hit 144 mph like the SHO? You should try a real top end run with your buddy. Check your tach at 140+ I would be curious. The SHO reads 5000k @ 140 dead on. Write back again ((O:

  • i got 190hp. its stock minus knn filter and catback. neither add hardly anything. simply from riding in the car he prob would pull after 120 but who cares, most people only race to 100 or 120 at most. It does cruise better than a 4th gen maxima but eats wayyyy more gas and not as reliable.

  • It's too bad that Ford didn't have the good sense to make them rear wheel drive

  • What kind of mufflers/exhaust system?

  • i have the same on in myn is ficked up

i wish myn was like yours

  • FUCKING BADASS.

  • i wish they mated the v8s to manual transmissions

  • @cherrybomb1493 it is possible

  • its funny how adding 2 more cylinders to a 3.4 will make it sound SO much better then the 3.4 v6. these fuckin things sound like mustangs

  • Since when did the v6s come in 3.4?

3.2 and 3.0 only my friend.

  • oh i know, i wasnt only talking about ford v6s, i was talking gm, too.

  • oh and i would like to rephrase my mustang statement...they sound better then mustangs.

  • 3.2 was auto.. 3.0 was stick.. i had a 3.0.. fucker SCREAMED

  • 96-99 had 3.4 V8's my friend..

    look it up

  • Actually, the 3.4 V8 is just a 2.5 Duratec V6 with 2 more cylinders. Those pistons are tiny.

  • you are correct

  • I roll down the windows and speed through tunnels just to hear the engine. It's rather amazing nothing like the sound. Yamaha really knows their stuff.

  • Far from a shitbox....you must have not been told that Yamaha builds the best engines in the world. Well they do. To this day, they're building diamonds to put under the hood.

  • No, Yamaha "built" great V-6's and that's where Ford should've left it. The V-8 sho is possibly the worse fwd car ever made........

  • True, you do have a point. The V6's own these, there's no arguing that. Yamaha did build a V8 for this car, but Ford threw the design out the window in favor of cam failures. Even though, Yamaha did assemble these as well and designed the heads. Guess who designed the cams? Yep, Ford.

  • how do you figure?

  • like what?

  • I'm stuffing one of these in a 89 Mr2. Awesome little 8s

  • Dude thats why i hate the V8 SHOs such a pointless waste the V6 was lighter faster and funner to drive because it could be a 5 speed. I have a 1995 5speed that has at least 250hp. and its over a second faster 0-60. i love all SHOs but i dont think i'll ever own a V8 one

  • whats your top speed? i have a 97 3.0 baseline with mild upgrades, ie opened up breather box, 12" pack, 3 inch tip, no resonator, and its good for 120 mph. been thinking about trying to find a v8 sho.

  • if your still looking, i have a one owner 96 SHO, leather jbl, GREAT condition with 88k. pm me for more

  • The car put down ~ 200 hp

  • this is an awesome car

  • see! i dont get it, how can you put a V8 engine in a front wheel drive car and still expect it to go round corners??

  • more appropriately why wouldn't it. this guys car is mad and it handles awesome at gingermanraceway. I have road with the guy a few times and it goes around the corners better than some. this V8 actually weighs less than the DOHC V6 optional in the standard taurus.

Hp was about 215 wheel with about the same torque. they were only 235 hp and 230 torque crank hp from the factory.

  • well when you have a lighter engine that makes sence, it still just seems wrong, like it should be rear wheel drive pushing the cars weight insted of pulling it, but who cares when it sounds this good!!!???

  • You're right. It's too bad Ford is a little slow when it comes to proper racing design. They have a million great ideas, and the are never developed as well as they could. The SHO is a perfect example. One of the sickest motors in the 90's, but it's FWD, No manual was offered, and the automatic trannys sucked to boot. Just a bad combination.

  • +1 they should have been rear wheel drive with a 5 speed.

We are going to put an SHO V6 in an old Mk1 ford Capri along with a 5 speed. I can't wait!

  • That is going to be one fast Capri. Good luck.

  • Thank you! My cousin Is going to WyoTec right now so I am hoping that we can use what he learns in school to finish the swap, right now its only an idea We need to find a SHO parts car and a all the correct T5 parts needed for the drivetrain...And somebody that can tune the engine after it's in there.

  • Well, the good thing is that the Yamahammer is symmetrical, so it is easily used for rear-wheel applications. The transmission and bellhousing is the next step, then, simple tuning. It shouldn't have too many headaches.

  • I can also get advise from a guy that worked on the SHO project at ford...So far my guy has been a TON of help...At first we were going to just swap in a 3.8HO from a mustang, Till we found out the SHO engine is much better;)

  • OH yes, there is no comparison between the Mustang V6 and a Yamaha V6. Plus, if you really want to get crazy, you could add a supercharger onto the SHO motor, and get 450HP to the rear wheels.

  • We plan on installing a Paxton supercharger and later doing a small wet shot of nitrous oxide....But thats much later when we know more about what we are doing...lol

  • True, don't want to get ahead of yourself...but when it's all said and done, you'll be so glad you did it, not to mention running 12's in a Capri that some jerk in a Civic will try to race at some point...then you'll know what to do to embarass him for life.

  • Do you ever have VAC probs.

  • what were the numbers on this car

  • You are not kidding about the coil packs! Pain in my ass. The ECU will not even detect it until its almost undrivable. I pay $75 for them and they seemed to all go out over a period of one year one at a time.

  • these cars would benefit from a cowl hood so much. it needs to get the heat out.

  • Hey MTXSHO. Camry at 300 HP? I am curious about this, as I just drove the new HYBRID and its a FOUR BANGER with 187 HP! I looked at all the models and there isn't even a V6 available! Maybe you know more? DO TELL :O) Still holden on to my '97 SilverFrost! I had it up to 140mph right next to my buddy on a local highway, at the time, he had a '96 Black Ebony, our GEN III's were performing identically from 60mph up until 140mph @ 5000 rpm. Write back ok?

    .G

  • That does sound pretty damn sicc (and fast)! The V8 SHO is an excellent platform for mods if they really existed in the same form that the Maxima enjoys. I would be very happy to keep my tranny cool since Ford didn't have the good sense to put an adequate ATF cooler in there.

  • SleekSilver. Sorry, ment to post 235 hp. Still there are NO OTHER cars in this class. A GTP has more (240 and NOT normally aspirated, supercharged a larger motor 3.8 v6! The other sport sedans are v6's/larger v8's NOT in class. Again, this is an 'ENGINE SPECIFIC' limited production car. Its engine SMALLER than most v6's, 3.4 liter. People ask questions when they see my setup at the shows, I am usually armed with info, production numbers/drag coefficients.

    Now, how about handling?

    Write again?

  • Wow. That has got to be one of the meanest sounding cars I have ever heard. That Yamahammer is a beast! I'm dying to know what kind of exhaust/mufflers you're running!

  • removed third Cataltic convertor and Bulet mufflers. He is no longer running this setup though. her switched to a 3 inch Single pipe all the way back.

  • I smoked a guy in a retired police interceptor, he was like what kind of Taurus sounds like that!? I told him it was a V8 he made me pull over and show him.

  • My 97 SHO doesn't sound this good but it sounds good and i love pullng up to a light and stomping camaros... they dont know what to do!

  • haha i here yah the one camaro i raced dident evin kno wha hit him

  • I had a 97 EXACTLY like that one I wish I never sold it!!!!

  • amazing car!

  • i am so gonna do that to my taurus!

  • I have one of these, a 1997 with only 56k... You simply CAN NOT beat the sound these GEN III's make with one of the great after market exhaust systems. This dyno vid says it all, if that doesn't sound like a race car, nothing will :O) (1st gear in DRIVE is right up under 7000 rpm.)

Its STILL the quickest/fastest 230hp 4 door sport sedan PERIOD, not to mention the ONLY car to have a `model specific' v8 engine... You won't find it in any other Ford car.

Glad I still have mine :O)

  • i luv my 97.. nuttin sweeter than sittn at a stop light with my family in the car (wife and 3 kids) and watchn these 5.0's get beat to next light by a 4 door sedan

  • It does sound sweet, I'll give you that.

It is far from the fastest 230HP four door sedan, these really weren't that fast even modded.

Can someone tell me what this guy put down on the dyno?

  • 144 MPH isn't fast?

  • Many vehicles will go 140. I never said that 144mph isn't fast, ever. I was more concerned with acceleration, not top end. You don't drive 144mph every day, but you might put the hammer down at every stop light.

  • not that fast what r u on i had my 1997 sho past the 240 kmh mark and that waz when ti waz stock

  • Dude, lets be realistic. In stock form, in its day it was quite respectable. Toyota makes a 300 horsepower Camry now. We won't even go into the G35s and what not. Still, for $4,000 to $6,000 V8 SHOs are not without their merits. I like my 97 too. I like that high pitch whine above 5500 rpm. Sounds like a turbo. I HATE the coil packs! $100 a pop... DAMN!

  • my '97 maxima owns my buddies '97 sho off the line, then he holds his position and neither of us drop back or move forward.

  • 3rd gen sho's have the gayest spoiler known to man.

  • Didn't the V8 show have bad cam problems ? Either way I like that V8, It would be perfect for my Citation 2

  • yes but a 500 dollar procedure called welding the cams saves you from replacing the 13,000 dollar motor.

  • unfortunalty the block alone cost 17k, found out the hard way.. i ended up 'lock tighting' my cams(fords recomendations) wasnt sure on either welding or lock tighting.. welding would have voided my warranty

  • I guess I would be better off buying that type of car second hand and ripping the motor out huh ? Shit 13 grand I could get a decent car with that amount of money

  • yes they did after as little as 30k-40K miles the Cams would walk the exhaust cam gear out of place and break the cam. since it is an interference engine the block and head usually were screwed up.

  • whats an interference engine mean?

  • An interference engine is like most modern engines, where the pistons and valves occupy the same space in the cylinder--the cams time the valves to open and close according to the position of the piston. In the SHO V8, which is known for cam failures, the cams stop turning and the pistons crash into the valves as a result, destroying the engine.

  • right on

  • Yes, the cam failures have been known to us GEN III owners for a number of years. Its why mine is totally off the road, covered, and in my climate controlled garage with only 57k on the od. until I can afford to get a well known cam welder here to my place to do the weld job... Not taking any chances with a fine running motor is this '97 SHO in pretty much brand new - UN-altered condition as it sits (O: (I gotta get this thing appraised!)

  • y couldn't u pull the bump sticks urself and just bring them to a machine shop?
