  • an idler gear! never even occured to me. i'm gonna have to take another look at my own design.

    KEvron

  • maybe i'm looking in the wrong place for the gear but i can't find it. i still haven't gotten to take a closer look at the gear i got on eBay, it might have it. i agree about the positive feed back from people on this site but i am lucky enough to be around people who are in school for this kind of thing because they think my videos are pretty cool, and my group watched your video on a projector a couple times trying to get an idea of how your clock works.

  • well i have some bad news. we aren't going to have enough time to finish this project before the year ends so we wont be able to implement your ratchet system :( i will probably make one anyways but for now school is keeping me too busy. either way you did the knex community on youtube a service by showing up all how to make this.

o and i checked the knex web site and they don't carry large gears any more :( this is such a dark day....

  • @Scerab Well first of all, thank you so much for those kind words! I try to teach and motivate others to do what they want to do, I have to say that I get almost no support or notice for what I do. All my positive feedback comes from here. And that is what keeps me motivated. So thanks again, I hope this helps people, and I can't believe they don't have those gears anymore, I saw it for myself!

  • @mechanicsnut Plenty of those gears on ebay!

  • Nice work. Do you know knex made a ratchet piece? It looks like a break disk and has 8 ratchets on the inside.

  • @Knexfoof That's interesting! What set did it come in, and are they still made I wonder? Thanks.

  • search 'knex ratchet' on google images, the first few are of the ratchet in question. It is black and grey

  • that's brilliant. i don't think my large gears have those holes on the outer ring but I'm sure we'll find some way to make it work. we get together and Saturday so I'll let you know if we can make it work Saturday or Sunday. thanks for all the work you put into this.

  • @Scerab Your welcome, if you go online to knex.com, you can get the gears that I am using, individually, and they come with the hole. At least mine did, and they are only about $2. I will try to come up with something else for you.
