For the Luo, a people of Lake Victoria and the Nile shores, the Eagle is the animal of transition during sleep and afterlife. The Luo say that while asleep, one leaves the physical body and becomes an Eagle which then travels between the world of the Mortals to that of the Immortals (ancestors) and back again.
