  • Great job on the rock & texturing colors.

  • hey I heard you inhaling and exhaling. Good to see your alive. Nice vid!

  • Could tell me what colors you used?

Been trying to color mine, can't get it right.

    But I love your color.

    THANKS FOR POSTING.

    Been watching them all.

    Great layout!

  • looks like the train track at grand canyon!!!!

  • Wow, thats one hell of a layout. I'm partial to Kato track myself and its obvious that its the most near perfect n-scale track.

  • i can hear u breathing! + nice vid + watch my vids

  • I like the Mountains!

  • I love all the intricate rail work. This is the nicest looking layout I have ever seen do you by chance have the schematics for the track work would like to build my own borrowing from your design.

  • The grand canyon! Lol! :P

  • Is that the "great stuff" spray foam on there, or?

  • Hey,

No, actually it is hyrdocal plaster that was shaped with rock molds. If you look back to some of the earlier videos, I think I explain more about how they were made.

    Thanks,

    John

  • Oh, OK cool. Thanks! Nice job BTW.

  • VERY NICE LAYOUT! Love the scenery!

  • Nice layout! The rocks look great.

  • Kato/Atlas locomotives are the only way to go for pulling power/tractive effort. I tried Life-like, & they, well,,, they just plain suck at pulling anything over 5-6 cars. I'm considering making them Dummy units, where they can live in the roundhouse.

  • I had one or two and what I did was weather the heck out of them and put them on a dead spur.....let the weeds so to speak grow over them.....

  • wow thats amazing

  • I have a n scale sd 40 engine with scenic ridge with a 2 percent inclinde, my engine will not pull 3 or more cars up this incline. I have tried cleaning the track, and the gauge is good, i am out of ideas. Any sugguestions?

  • Hi

I use 4% and don't have a problem but I can guess what is troubling you. If you are not using Kato locomotives, then you are in trouble. Atlas is OK and may do the trick, but anything else not Kato or Atlas is not really going to pull what you want. Also, considering getting 2 engines to pull your trains...that

    will always help!

    Best,

    John

  • thank you for the reply. I have a kato sd 40 and when the engine reaches the middle of the curve the engine's wheels spins, so (this is my first ever layout) I am thinking there is alot of power going to the engine. I have two engines as well, the engines can pull 6 cars but i have increase the power alto to make the train get up the hill, but it does go up. I am thinking that is not good. once again any suggestions?

  • Hi,

Sounds pretty odd. My next suggestion would be to replace your Atlas track (I assume you use that now) with Kato track since the Kato track will get you more power/voltage on the rails due to its tight connections. Second idea...is this a used or new engine...some used Kato stuff has issues.

    -John

  • It is a new engine. I bought a woodland scenic box set. the set is scenic ridge, and it came with the track along with the risers.

  • Considering dumping the Atlas track the set came with in favor of Kato track. You can even find the Kato plan for the scenic ridge track plan online if you google around enough. OR try soldering your Atlas track together to provide better continuity between the rails AND add in more feeder wires to boost voltage. Also, borrow and another engine to make sure yours is just not a lemon! Also, check to see if your freight cars you are pulling have weights in them....some do for 'stability'

  • Ok, my solering ability is not very good lol, any sugguesstion so I donot melt the rail ties?

  • Hey John, Ive seen all your video's ist been a pleasure to see the layout come together. You actually inspired me to start putting videos of mine up. I took this one a couple months ago, ad there are more to come. I'm a big fan of the rocks and mountains as well. If you have time, id love to hear what you think! -Josh

  • WOW!!! Looks simply awesome!!

  • Very good! How did you model the mountains?

  • Hi,

I use hydrocal to shape the mtn as you can see in my older videos. Its basically plaster mixed with water and then poured into various rock molds ... then repeated many many times here!

    Thanks,

    John

  • Looking great John!
