  • Teaching Britishness (Translate) Teaching children to obey their owners ......

  • It's easy. Just act like a cunt. Hey Presto ! You're British.

  • More destruction of British identity which incorporates English, Scots and Welsch. When people talk only about the negative and downplay the positive thats the language of traitors. All cultures have done similar things throughout history, from Muslims to Chinese. Its more to do with forces in human nature. When these left-wing people talk about history, they mean to undermine British identity, which is really an attack on a individuals identity.

  • They should teach conspiracy as a lesson so the kids will be smarter and prepared when they're older because their government fucks them over everyday.

  • "...flag waving" galloway just owned the room with that

  • is there any debates in America about what "being American" means? bet not. They are confident in them selves and what they are despite genuinely having citizens from all over the world.

  • Yes lets "make history compulsory to GCSE level instead?" because Scotland doesn't use the GCSE system.

  • George sounds like he could be a little contraversial in this clip...he must have been having a bad day...

  • show me ur genitals

  • lol wtf nerds britishness = being ugly

  • Why not you rag head loving wankers

  • George Galaway = Massive Wanker

  • lol britishness...these lot need to fucking stop talking over the same shit and put it into ACTION

  • britishness is about all different cultures....irm.....I kinda disagree with that having visited london last year I felt like I was in a foreign country british culture is being destroyed by foreign cultrues and corporations who try to destroy ones national identity and replace it with a brand name/logo

  • BRITTISHNESS!

    Whooo!

    Britishness=

um... good comedians. In my opinion, anyway... XD

  • Britishness is just Englishness, deal with it.

  • Pommy cunts!, There's no such thing as britishness hahahahahahaha

  • The ENGLISH language for a start..That birds a bit of an idiot.'celebrate all cultures'? whos she kidding. No thank you.

  • yeh she can if she wants. but well be celebrating evry day wiv the ammount of christmas variations, 'name days' and fasting etc. we'd be doing

  • Rather than simply history - there should be a specific curriculum - from primary on up that teaches social studies. Social studies is history, geography, culture and economics.Teachers would need to be specifically trained, if they aren't already to deliver this instruction. Children must have access to knowledge of controversial subjects where they can come to terms what ideologies and mores gave rise to the UK as it is today.

  • Bahhh britishness

the government doesn't even know the meaning of the bloody word.

  • wales

  • please not in northern ireland it will cause more trouble

  • why would they be teaching Britishness in Northern Ireland, it isn't in Britian, it's in the UK

  • They should definitely just teach History better. I remember in primary school we would learn all about the Tudors and the Roman invasion. Then when I did history for GCSE, the course was 50% American history and the rest was about the World Wars and most of that was focused on Germany's movement!

History should be taught more on Britain.

  • And from one Celt to another - thoroughly enjoyed the Saes getting lost in the mud and rain of Murrayfield last weekend.

Possibly the worst game in history, but I spent most of it cheering !

  • Read it again: two branches of Celts, the Brythonic - as in Britons, and Gaedolic - as in Gaels or Gaelic. All Celts.

  • The English haven't begun to hate the Union, for a lot of us we have hated it for a long, long time.

Their is no political party for English indepedence but we have the Campaign for an English parliament.

Would I welcome an ENP, yes as long as it was not hijacked by the sort who join the BNP.

  • It scares me when I have to agree with George...

Britons are from the Brythonic Celts, now left in Cornwall & Wales. - the Celts in Ireland, Man and Scotland are Gaedolic...Britons do exist, they just aren't English, who are really Germans

  • It says teaching Britishness, so it should be taught in English, Welsh and Scottish schools. Why in the description does it say 'not taught in irish schools' why should it be? Ireland is NOT in the UK - WE ARE INDEPENDANT and its you ignorant English who would assume we are still in the UK!

  • But Britishness is not taught in Wales or Scotland, just England. Also Great Britain refers to a geographical area, the British Isles. That would should include Northern Ireland, NOT THE REPUBLIC!

But honestly, it's a load of cobblers, the Union is dead. A desperate attempt by a desperate government to keep Westminster relevant when they have destroyed the UK, when they went down the road of devolution.

  • The British Isles (although why should it be called British?) is the UK and ROI. I ment to also say it should be taught in Northern Irish schools, its just that people say Irish when that refers to the Republic aswell.

  • Don't mistake a geographical area with politics and don't feel insulted by it, geology has nothing to do with politics.

I don't know about most people but I always make a clear distinction between Northern Ireland and the Republic.

  • Thats good, but a lot of British people (yes i know its bad) sometimes think the Republic of Ireland is part of the UK. Also, the British Isles has 2 countries in it, so why not call it the Irish Isles? Maybe it should be something like NW Europe Isles, idk.

  • And an English person would try to pretend that it isn't just a political and economic construct. In history, England was the bullyboy Serbia of these islands. We saw what happened in the Balkans. Hopefully Scotland and Wales will declare independence one day.

  • And maybe the English will beat them to it and declare independence first. One day England will be free!

  • Britishness is under attack since Britain has become so multi-cultural in recent decades. I agree, though that schoolchildren in Britain should learn more history, and not just history skewed to suit Britain's own vantage point, become so many Britons one meets do not know an awful lot about history or geography. It'd be no harm to allow them to become more aware of their past colonial 'endeavours'.

  • The spelling is 'Irish' first of all. Secondly, it wasn't meant to be a jibe on my part saying 'Britishness' is a polical construct. It's a fact because it's just meant to be a Union of DIFFERENT cultures, 'different' being the operative word. I'm allowed have an opinion, even if I'm not British myself!

  • 'Britain' and 'Britishness' is just a political construct. The UK should be dismantled.

  • Ireland is a separate country. Go back to school! Just like Portugal isn't Spain and Austria isn't Germany!

  • ther is no such thing as "britishness"

    fuckin bullshit

  • That's right and the Scots who control Westminster should acknowledge that fact.

  • @SCelticOTLAND More Scots want to be British than they don't .Sod of to Ireland wi the rest of you tatty munchers if ye can't deal wi it.

  • @YARROWS For someone so eager to be British you have a very poor grasp of the English language. Modern day Scotland doesn't have a place for bigots like you. Moron.

  • @peacefrog1916 Who the hell are you lecturing.I'm fed up with my faith coming second best, when we are in the majority. They don't even recognise my church as a house of god.

  • @YARROWS I don't give a fuck about religion, its hocus pocus, fairytale nonsense and its also just another way of the ruling classes to divide people, i will not tolerate bigotry especially from anyone. Who is 'they'?

  • I wish people would stop saying Ireland is britain cause IT IS NOT OK?!?!

  • @Richboy54 it is whether you like it or not, have you ever heard of the british isles, what do you think GREAT britain means, its means the biggest part of britain, ireland is small-britain

  • Welsh Not British

  • English, not Welsh, not Scottish.

  • there is no such thing of britishness

just people who think that scotland , ireland and wales is english

    which they are not

  • Those people interviewed don't know the first thing about Britishness, to be honest neither do I, but i bet that old mans joke about the club was really just to hide what he really thought.

  • In History GCSE we don't even learn about British history *anyway*. :/

  • Hahaha Galloway knew he had about 25 seconds there to lay the fucking smack down and he did it perfectly

  • lol this guy is flawless

  • All children in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England should be taught Britishness. It's only Nationalists/Republicans in the UK and the likes of George Galloway that are dividing us all.

George Galloway is a RAT and I would not p...s on him if he was on fire. Despite his rantings I believe we all can live together with equal and civil rights for all. LEST WE FORGET, VOTE TO KEEP ANOTHER 300 YEARS OF BRITISHNESS!

  • well said

  • So whats your opinion on introducing england's colonial history in schools?

  • At what point did Engish colonialism give way to British colonialism, act of union 1707!

Their would have not been any British colonialism with out the Scots.

  • no it would have just been english colonialism then

  • You know what it means to be British when you go abroad: it's a range of shared references which, ironically, might well include foreign things, such as curry. It's also about a range of shared expectations about what the state and the country's institutions should provide and how they should work.

  • i think british is good i am anglo saxon and i am pround the be a englishman i like the past we have we rule the world and won the war and britishness does exist cuz we talk english so that means i and england is real if we dont exist then the u.s and the other english talking people dont exist

  • Britishness started when the Brythons came, long before the Romans!

  • The way english people slip between England and Britain make me sick.... Thank god we dont get taught this unionist tripe in Scottish schools. Britishness does not exist its not a nationality. Its just a political state, and a cruel, bloody thirsty and war mongering one at that.

  • and it makes me sick when scottish people never say the word british and always scottish you want all the cake dont ya you greedy cunt

  • That's right, the English are not allowed to be English. England and English identity has to be suppressed in favour of Unionist tripe and is only forced on the English because without England Westminster has no meaning. And the three main political parties will not give up the union but will sacrifice England and her identity and her history instead.

  • ENGLISH PEOPLE ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SEXY!!!! Oh and history needs to be compulsory and NOT just about WW2! Oh and lets not forget the brits were also the first to stop slavery. I am from Canada and want to move to England sooooo much....anybody know any cite single english girls who like canadians? lol ;p

  • Dino - Scotland is better. As a Canadian who has lived in both England and Scotland I recommend Scotland to you very highly. If you come to Scotland you won't be accused of sounding american as often (majority of the english can't tell the difference). England isn't all bad but I found Scotland to be a nicer place !

  • I actually was living in glasgow recently and I prefer england. I had to quit a pgde program :( Trying to figure out a way back in...

  • Try Edinburgh ... less neds ! :D

  • yeah edinbugger is an amazing place, you still in scotland?

  • LOL @ Edinbugger ... no I'm back home now ! :D

  • countries full up stay out

  • This is a good Anglo Saxon word - bollocks!

  • I would say this was too much Tony Blair hanging out with Bush. You don't need to teach Britishness unless you are trying to suppress. The States teaches Americanism to cause the melting pot effect - to standardize people from wherever they are from to be blindly patriot to America.

I consider myself fairly British because I indentify with Brits culture alot, even though my parents emmigrated from England to Canada and I was born and raised here.

  • Instead of teaching "Britishness" perhaps schools should concentrate on spelling and grammar.

  • and history as it happened
