Vee-Dub did a good gob: invest $1b in a new factory in the US to built SKODA SUPERBs and (re)badge them as VW PASSATs and sell them for just under $20k. The 2.5 V5 170HP is obsolete, the 3.6 FSI 280HP is too "Un-American" and the 2.0 TDI 140 HP too weak. Enjoy your "new" PASSAT's...!!!

Did this guy actually EVER tried the previous Passat??? This is actually a truly Americanized CRAPPY car !they took everything nice out of the car to bring the price down, to be able to sell in in America! TDI Asside, it is a gas hog with less power then a Camry. The 2.5L, 5 Cylinder NO torque engine is NOT a fun to drive engine.
@TriplogikAmerica Got to agree. As a European I can hardly recognise this vehicle as a Passat. It's a fairly non descript family car in the UK and certainly no class leader. But it looks much better in the flesh than this Americanised model. It's nicely finished too if a little basic. We get a 258lb foot diesel engine that can punt it along to 70mph in 8.6 seconds. That returns 61 mpg and it is a bit of a hoot to drive. I think you are being short changed even if it is cheaper to buy initially.

You'd really be surprised how nice a ride it is for the money! I know it's not a "luxury car" per se but it really is one of those "sleepers" you have to drive to appreciate it. @thizzle7xu 2012 3 isn't supposed to be out until next Summer, it hasn't even been unveiled yet, not even the new 4 cylinder engine that's going into it, but it might not be too different from the one going into the Z4. Can't wait to see the new M5 review though!
@Eagle1oh7 I've been thinking about a new car, and the 328xi looks like the one. But I can't get any clear details on when the 2012 supposed to be available. I've read next spring and this fall too, but then read that they are stopping production on the 2011 model in October. Are they really going to go like 6 months without being able to order a new version of their most popular models? Seems weird...
@thizzle7xu I got a 2k11 328i and when originally shopping for a 3, I asked if they had a new 2010 3 and was told they went out of production during the spring so all the new ones were 2k11s. It makes sense for them to stop production so people don't feel screwed for paying more than they should for older technology which the current 3s are. The next design is supposed to look more like a 5 according to the web.

I would buy a VW passat tdi if it came with projection HID headlights and a more aggressive front grille and better back lights. Making it look like a Jetta from the rear was a disappointment.

And its not as the reviewer said, example of german engineering, because its a car that is very inferior to other german, and especially other european cars. Even the european passat looks silly next to some french or italian rivals for same price.
Really bad interior compared to europan version. US Version of Passat is just a technologically inferior and cheaper version of original passat. This car should have a different name.
Really like the look of this Passat. Here in the UK we also have a new Passat, but it’s just a facelift of the previous model. It’s an improvement, but the US car has better proportions, and looks sharper. And possibly most importantly about the US car, is that it has a proper handbrake, we are still stuck with the stupid electronic one :( lol Fantastic review as always!! :)

I like that has really filled the gap Volvo once filled. High quality, safe and cheap to run. They will probably never be as impressive as a BMW or Audi, but they're great cars at a reasonable price.

@AlternativeUses - Say hey... Thanks for watching our videos. We really appreciate it. But I have to tell ya... If you haven't driven the Chrysler 200... You should. You'd really be surprised how nice a ride it is for the money! I know it's not a "luxury car" per se but it really is one of those "sleepers" you have to drive to appreciate it. TDI means Turbocharged Direct Injection. Not Turbo Diesel. But yes, it is a Diesel, it's just what "TDI" actually stands for

@thizzle7xu 2012 3 isn't supposed to be out until next Summer, it hasn't even been unveiled yet, not even the new 4 cylinder engine that's going into it, but it might not be too different from the one going into the Z4. Can't wait to see the new M5 review though!

@Eagle1oh7 I've been thinking about a new car, and the 328xi looks like the one. But I can't get any clear details on when the 2012 supposed to be available. I've read next spring and this fall too, but then read that they are stopping production on the 2011 model in October. Are they really going to go like 6 months without being able to order a new version of their most popular models? Seems weird...

@thizzle7xu I got a 2k11 328i and when originally shopping for a 3, I asked if they had a new 2010 3 and was told they went out of production during the spring so all the new ones were 2k11s. It makes sense for them to stop production so people don't feel screwed for paying more than they should for older technology which the current 3s are. The next design is supposed to look more like a 5 according to the web.

I would buy a VW passat tdi if it came with projection HID headlights and a more aggressive front grille and better back lights. Making it look like a Jetta from the rear was a disappointment.

And its not as the reviewer said, example of german engineering, because its a car that is very inferior to other german, and especially other european cars. Even the european passat looks silly next to some french or italian rivals for same price.

Really bad interior compared to europan version. US Version of Passat is just a technologically inferior and cheaper version of original passat. This car should have a different name.

Really like the look of this Passat. Here in the UK we also have a new Passat, but it’s just a facelift of the previous model. It’s an improvement, but the US car has better proportions, and looks sharper. And possibly most importantly about the US car, is that it has a proper handbrake, we are still stuck with the stupid electronic one :( lol Fantastic review as always!! :)

I like that has really filled the gap Volvo once filled. High quality, safe and cheap to run. They will probably never be as impressive as a BMW or Audi, but they're great cars at a reasonable price.
