Scorpions' In Trance album's art is probably up there among my favorites. The tunes are killer, too, but something about that art... it's just saucy. Probably something to do with the girl suggestively positioned above the electric guitar.
Also, your record collection has to be the stuff of legends, Beckonor.
interesting but i say for me best metal albums of the 70's would be the first six black sabbath albums let me think judas priest sad wings of of desitny, sin after sin, stained class which are my favorite judas preist albums and hell bent for leather i really feel most of the stuff on here is hard rock or progessive rock not metal sabbath and preist are metal you'd have a better chance doing best metal album's the 80's more metal bands in that decade and more metal music in my opinion.
Totally correct. Very little of this is metal, certainly including Led Zeppelin, which was far and away the best group of the 70's musically overall. Still, an incredibly imaginative list!
Thanks for the listen, Beckonor! Very interesting and enjoyable!!
top list mate! I would have put Rainbow's long live Rock N Roll MUCH higher and crowbarred Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Fuzzy Duck in there somewhere, but good choices all the same.
@MultiCuordileone@MultiCuordileone si, muy buen trabajo.Pero extraño algo de Queen II de 1974.some songs from that album can break some songs from this collection.
@That667Guy Plus, they didn't only do metal, they explored pretty much every genre of music in their first 5 years of existence, showing how much talent they really had.
How is Rush heavy metal. Sure maybe cygnus x1 part 1on farewell to kings is more epic and heavy than most albums on here, but hemispheres is prog, not heavy metal.
from the tribal beats of Africa that the slaves in America shaped into Blues, that shaped Jimi and the flower age that was broken by Sabbath and made pompous by Motley Crue and is now being given new life by bands like Clutch ROCK IS ROCK, record companies may have nervous breakdowns about genres but we should just enjoy the rock ps. really nice compilation, even including SUCK :)
THE ONLY 70's band which invented and played Heavy Metal music was Black Sabbath. Not prototype, but pure Heavy Metal.
They invented 2 Heavy Metal music sub-genres: Classic Heavy Metal and Doom Metal.
Other bands from this video are Rock music bands. Motorhead and Judas Priest started making Heavy Metal music in 80's(Classic Heavy Metal), before that, they were Classic Rock bands.
I don't give a fuck where are they from, or who the fuck they looked to, 'cause when I play one of their songs until 1981, it doesn't say that crap, but it says something else.
It says that it's Rock sound, not Heavy Metal.
Their Heavy Metal sound began with Screaming For Vengeance.
@WishmasterTheDark well, heavy metal sound began when blues went out from melody, when voices began screaming and rithmic section began to follow an own way during a song. all these things you have in jp, and they are metal. but if you think that nwobhm is the first kind of metal, well screaming for vengeance is their first metal album. cheers and stay rock !
You have NO idea what you are talking about? Sabbath influenced MANY sub-genres of metal. As for Judas Priest NOT being a metal band in the 70's? WTF are you talking about? The Ripper? Victim of Changes? Dissident Aggressor? I can keep going, but you would have a hard time following, so I'm not going to bother.
According to Rolling Stone magazine, the first record review in which they used the term "heavy metal" was for Humble Pie.Humble is not in this list. Also,I have seen early heavy metal collections include Soft Machine from 1970. Soft Machine was not a guitar band at that time, but the distorted bass and distorted organ were pretty heavy. They toured with Hendrix two years earlier,so they knew how to be heavy.
The (proposed?) videos for the top heavy metal bands of the 2000's and 2010's will show how heavy metal has devolved into a conformity contest to be generic as possible. Thanks Beckonor for showing us there used to be individuality and creativity in heavy metal.
motorhead in my opinion should be much higher on the list very heavy when compared to some of the others you have listed, but i wont argue you compiled a very good selection,...doom on brother
Every thing is accurate, started in 66' for sure, but the first definitive, true heavy metal album was Black Sabbath. Even Judas Priest's Rob Halford professes that Black Sabbath started it all. Listen to Black Sabbath. It's the heaviest, truest heavy metal to date.

Black Sabbath was first Heavy Metal band, and they made two Heavy Metal sub-genres: Classic Heavy and Doom Metal.
Motorhead nor Judas Priest had that kind of Heaviness in 70's, but later in 80's.
In 70' BS was the only Heavy Metal band, and later Manowar, Venom, Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate and others appeared.
