Sam Beam because he is a musician who has all the available tools he wishes to have at his disposal and is clearly enjoying using them to develop his music. Personally I have positively embraced the way his music has evolved across all 4 albums. Keep doing it I say if it's done well then it's worth listing too.

People need to understand that there is no definitive Iron And WIne sound. Sam Beam does whatever the flying fuck Sam Beam wants to do, and that shows in his music. He started out with a mellow folky- sound and transferred that into Our Endless Numbered Days, which I find to be his best album. Then He Moved over to the Indie/rock sound with Shepherds dog and now he's getting psychadelic on us with kiss each other clean. I&W's sound changes everytime Sam wants it to. This performance is proof.

This is my favorite album of all time and I just don't think this was a good choice for live television. A song needed to be chosen that would showcase him. The support needed from a band on this track is intense and it just isn't the same without that honky-tonk piano. Resurection fern would have been good, but too slow for live TV probably and too long for a closing slot. I would say innocent bones, but I'm biased as that is my fave from the album.

I think one of the things we all like about Iron & Wine is that he experiments with sounds and uses instruments unconventionally. In this song, he's just experimenting with a new sound and that's fine. I think it sounds brilliant. So... can we stop whining that he doesn't sound the same? There's no conventional "iron & wine" sound.

He's tried banjos, sitars, accordions, castanets...but God forbid if he picks up an electric guitar.
