8k crit isn't that bad afaik... download the GearScore addon if you haven't yet, if your gs is 4.5-5k, it's not your gear's fault. as of writing this, servers are down for 3.3 patch. but the highest gs is about 5.5 that I've seen. I'd estimate the adverage to be about 4.5. though, my main is 3.5k so far, so be careful what advice you take from me. lol

Oblivion is right too. you should look up on Google what your class' hit cap is, because there is a point when your hit chance stops going up. (as much anyways)
for starters you need way more crit chance 19 isnt enough you should take some hit out and replace with spell power / crit , to be a good dps 2000 SP is a must tbh , the higher the crit the more hot streak procs = more high crits = more dps :)

i have an 80 frostfire mage and i do the same dps (in blues) so my concern is your crit chance, u had dragonslayer buff, and fire armour thing, so if u didnt have buffs ur crit would have been maybe 7% bcus the dragonslayer gives u LOTS of crit
also, you may have the spec wrong, u didnt really show us your whole talent tree, but most of all i think that its your spell power, i have 1533 sp with blues, which means u dont always need to stack hit rating and haste

You need to try 57/3/11 arcane spec. It is a mana-hog but your DPS will love it. If you time your 2-minute evocate and 2-minute mana gems, you wont run out of mana anyways.
But I tried this spec (frostfire bolt) and absolutely hated it. I have 4.2k Patchwerk DPS as arcane, which is just fine. Then I tried FFB and dropped to 2.1k. It was ridiculous.
Just research Arcane 57/3/11, learn the rotations, get the glyphs, and go climb the DPS boards.
To be specced for fire/frost, you need about 36% crit to make it viable for raiding, your hit rating is too high imo, just stack full spell power and crit, i'd also suggest getting the glyph of living bomb, but it uses up your combustion charges.
Mages really suck at the moment, they need buffing majorly to say they are a pure damage class.
have u tryd making macro that helps somtimes i do loads more dps with macro's on my warlock.. and yes haste very important hit rating dont need to be so high if ur crit is good that np then
Hey there. i noticed you respeced Fire/Arc which isnt mad but not the best imo. IMHO Arcane is probably the best besides for the Arcane Blast debuff which will bone you in mana. for the build i you wanna try it out wowarmory Cauvie on Dragonmaw, 57/3/11. A new wand would be better too, the one from Heroic AH is probably better, now sure, you can decide for yourself. You could also be fine if you dropped 2 of your 16 hit gems. im at 195 hit for arc and im fine.
Blade is also blue ;) change the gliph of evocation and put the molten armor gliph, and reduce your hit rating to 300 and change it for crit rating :D
I got a mage aswell. curently lvling it to 80. Arcane spec. i am level 77 full blue geared and got 1.8K dps. Arcane is imo the best dps spec. fire/frost aint no more.
This is what I need to be learning about especially if I'm going to play WoW as a mage. I'm about to make one right now. I used to have a nieghbor who could hit 16k's at level 70, but he's moved since then. I don't know very much at all about the game, but I'm willing to play and willing to learn.
What I do is Living bomb, then just spam scorch and throw in a fire blast .The only time I ever use a FFB is when I use icey vaines. You don't want to use FFB as your main spell. It'll really bring your DPS down. Right now my DPS is 2.2-2.4k and I only have 1466 spell power and I have way less purples.
Iam level 79 Blood/Frost DPS and have just respecced from a Tank and my DPS is pretty bad, i dont know what i need to consentrate on as in Stam, Crit, Haste, Str, Agi ETC...

You should also replace glyph of evocation with glyph of molten armor and try to get one of you guilds warlocks to spec into imp shadow bolt so you can replace glyph of imp scorch with glyph of living bomb this should bump up your dps by about 500
you should drop tons of hit you only need 289 hit to be hit capped and get more crit you should have at least 30% fire crit rating and browse the forums for a good frostfire build.
when i started playing when BC came out i was lvl 60 and ppl would say im a noob to go arcane. now look sense i spent so much time on getting gear specifically for arcane now im 1 of the best 80s around
and i cam make 10-20 k crits, repeatably(i think i spelled that wrong)ands its not from arcane barrage. is from arcane BLAST the most under estimated move in the book except for the buff it gives.
Since you are over hit cap, if you have hit gems replace for SP
SP>Crit>Haste(If not hit cap hit first)
Also, I was looking at your spec. Take 1 point out of Blast wave and put it in Flame throwing this wave you can move a little further back for Pyroblast and fire blast.
Hey man if you are worried about dps then replace anything with resil on it, You lose too much in much needed stats like crit and spell power. But thats the best thing I can tell you. Oh And I hear arcane is still Overpowered right now so you could try that as well.

Get 2 crits in a row, and you get instant pyroblast, USE THAT. Also always use Combustion and Icy Veins. I have a lot of good macros on my mage that help a lot.

First off, you have to replace the Evocation Glyph with a Molten armor glyph. Second as FFB stat priority goes Hit>SP>Crit>Haste since FFb relies on crit multipliers for dps. as of now with dual specs you can make your 2nd spec one with focus magic and cast it on someone and switch back to FFb and it stays applied.
First of all the dummy's are not a reliable sorce.
ATM fire/frost is not the best. A mage inb my guild named Kaorii(gnome mage on anvilmar server) is frost and see puts out about 3k+ dps in naxx 10 and 4k+ in 25 man, idk if its your spec but thats not the best any more. you should check kaorii out and look at her spec and see if you like it, make sure your following your rotations exact.
if you make sure your doing everything right and what not your dps should go up
well, yeah, but think about it you're buffed up to the eyeballs since they have all the class buffs rather than limitations and i've seen personally that mages do more damage in 25 mans, from personal experience
the sons of hodir have inscriptions at honored and exalted which i got for my shaman i used the lesser and greater inscription of the storm on the shoulders i have and its a great faction to gain rep with hope this will help
6. Get Light Weave Embroidery on your cloak, it is now AMAZING.
7. Spell power enchant on your gloves.
8. Keybind, don't click. Clicking will lower your DPS and cause you to die in harder fights as you will be paying attention to your action bar instead of whats in front of you.
9. Ideally in a 25 man raid you want to be around 50 percent crit buffed. Your base crit of 30 is not bad as raid buffs will bring you up in the high 40 percent area. Dropping all of your haste is a bad idea.
3. You always want to gem for raw spell power, Runed Scarlet Ruby is your friend. Unless there is a good set bonus then you could use a hybrid gem of spell power and crit.
4. It is still in debate but it looks like the glyph of Living Bomb is out weighing the glyph of scorch so try that out.
5. Your rotation should be LB to get it ticking right away, Get your scorch to 5 stack and then FFB > Hot streak, refresh your LB and don't let your scorch stack fall off.
Don't listen to most of these players. Here are your biggest mistakes.
1. Incorrect meta gem, you should ONLY use the Chaotic Skyflare Gem, the 3 percent increased damage is huge.
2. Instead of glyph of evocation get the glyph of molten armor.
3. The hit cap for any caster is 17 percent, with precision in your build you only need 14 percent. If you have a Spriest or Boomkin providing IMP FF or Misery that adds another 3 percent and knocks your hit down to 11 percent. Drop some hit gear.
After reviewing your gear a bit more I retract my statement about removing hit gear. With precision you are at 15.85 percent, 1.25 percent off of the cap. If you have a Boomkin/Spriest in your raid then you will be over hit cat and then you may start removing a little hit gear.
Same prob with me, after watching vids and reading my guide alot i found out that it was bad rotation... new 80s usually still use their lvling rotation, so just work on changing ur rotation
dude dont bother using the boss dummy...use the level 80 dummy..much lesser misses = more dps...and it is more accurate since u would normally have raid buffs against a boss...
Hey white swords (BIG FAN) but i have the same problem and this is wot people in my guild have been telling me if your doing PvE go arcane as this gives you the most istance/very quick cast time spells and so forth or this is what im doing im going to duel spec full arcane for PvE and do fire arcane so you can use pressence of minds with pryo to make it an instance cast which dose ASWUME dps and then find gylphs to reduces cast time of things and enchaancts and so forth /w bk if this was helpfu

i get more DPS than that on my paladin tank :S get some buffs for SP and INT asap, and try to get full epic from raids ( naxx 10/25 ) then go ulduar to try and get some new content ( first boss in ulduar has a really nice 1h sword with good sp )

Just smash every number button on your keyboard, thats what i do. It's also a good work out, but you do have to buy a new keyboard every now and again... Yah im having a similar problem on dps on my 80 shadow priest. I just installed recount, and i'm going to test my overall dps. Btw, your dps could have to do with the spell rotation, try altering the spells you use.

You will most likely do around 3k dps in raid buffs. You are fine, although I do suggest going fire (not frostfire) once you get enough gear. Basically you can use frostfire until you got the gear then use fire for all fights until your guild can kill bosses in 1-2 1/2 minutes at which time you switch to arcane for 7k dps.
Your selfbuffed dps is OK for the stats you have!! You should get at least 2k dps in raids with that gear.
But you need more spellpower (2k+) and more crit (30%+).
The gear/enchants.. hava to match your spec. Some specs need more spellpower, some more crit, some maybe haste. Either get a calculator and do the math yourself, or find someone with a dps of 4k+ (recount) and copy his spec & stats.
By the way, recount IS accurate. Blizzard just likes to blame all their problems onto addons.

First off, In my experience Arcane is much, much better dps.
But if you're wanting to stay Fire/Frost my number one recommendation would be to drop alot of haste and hit (You only need 368 hit if you have precision and you don't get much benefit from haste as Fire/Frost).
Fire/Frost is all about the crits. You should work on getting around 25%-30% crit chance.
Also, Scorch > Living Bomb > Frostfire Bolt > *Pyroblast if hotstreak procs* > Repeat

Embrace of the spider trinkit drops from the scond spider boss in 10 man nax gl on that. ice walker on boots. 20 sp and 10 crit on shoulder from sons of hodir rep. roation is wrong at first you should always stack 5 scorches to burn the target, then you should put a living bomb on the target, then you sould do frostfirebolt until you get the hot streak, which gives you an instant pyroball cast.
IMO; arcane is better for raiding atm. Not FF. I was FF a few days ago and I did shit dps, now with Arcane its a lot better. Plus I don't even have many epics and like 1,4-1,5k SP. Which sucks. But my dps is still good. ^_^
Lol they nerfed that spec because appearantly because it was too OP... Try respec arcane/ frost if you like or just pvp for your S5because S5 lacks mana but it has amazing dps. but heh, Rogue is for me :)
problem is you don't have the right weapon yet, the little blue is nice and stuff but getting an epic weapon (naxx) with +63 SP is the shit for mages ( imo ), throw enchants on everything! and i mean EVERYTHINGGGGGG xD boost up that SP as high as u possibly can with the resources you have and you can't rlly do more than that, just raid , get the stuff you need, dps comes with gear so just keep doing those raids ;) hope it helps a little bit ;)
It's not all about gear. Try changing up your Glyphs abit, like. Drop the Evocation and try to get Molten Shield. Also, as most stated. Your rotation on things is a little off, practice at it. With 3.1 you should only have to cast Scorch once (5x stacks from Glyph).
If you were not fat. You would pull more DPS.

Gearscore has nothing to do with _anything_
its the biggest bullshit that has come from the community in a long time.
Gearscore doesnt show you if the player even knows his rotation or raid utility.
+ There's lot of items for all classes that might not have the highest +gearscore but are way better than the ones wich have high gearscore add.
No offense to you ofc, just wanted to point it out for people that no one should never judge players because of their gearscore.

He didn't have the Dragonslayer buff, that's only for people below level 60. The buff that he had was caused by the Wyrmrest Accord tabard.

To be specced for fire/frost, you need about 36% crit to make it viable for raiding, your hit rating is too high imo, just stack full spell power and crit, i'd also suggest getting the glyph of living bomb, but it uses up your combustion charges.
Mages really suck at the moment, they need buffing majorly to say they are a pure damage class.
I have one also, and it's only at 1.8k.

Hey there. i noticed you respeced Fire/Arc which isnt mad but not the best imo. IMHO Arcane is probably the best besides for the Arcane Blast debuff which will bone you in mana. for the build i you wanna try it out wowarmory Cauvie on Dragonmaw, 57/3/11. A new wand would be better too, the one from Heroic AH is probably better, now sure, you can decide for yourself. You could also be fine if you dropped 2 of your 16 hit gems. im at 195 hit for arc and im fine.

I got a mage aswell. curently lvling it to 80. Arcane spec. i am level 77 full blue geared and got 1.8K dps. Arcane is imo the best dps spec. fire/frost aint no more.

What I do is Living bomb, then just spam scorch and throw in a fire blast .The only time I ever use a FFB is when I use icey vaines. You don't want to use FFB as your main spell. It'll really bring your DPS down. Right now my DPS is 2.2-2.4k and I only have 1466 spell power and I have way less purples.

You should also replace glyph of evocation with glyph of molten armor and try to get one of you guilds warlocks to spec into imp shadow bolt so you can replace glyph of imp scorch with glyph of living bomb this should bump up your dps by about 500

you should drop tons of hit you only need 289 hit to be hit capped and get more crit you should have at least 30% fire crit rating and browse the forums for a good frostfire build.

when i started playing when BC came out i was lvl 60 and ppl would say im a noob to go arcane. now look sense i spent so much time on getting gear specifically for arcane now im 1 of the best 80s around
and i cam make 10-20 k crits, repeatably(i think i spelled that wrong)ands its not from arcane barrage. is from arcane BLAST the most under estimated move in the book except for the buff it gives.

Since you are over hit cap, if you have hit gems replace for SP
SP>Crit>Haste(If not hit cap hit first)
Also, I was looking at your spec. Take 1 point out of Blast wave and put it in Flame throwing this wave you can move a little further back for Pyroblast and fire blast.

Hey man if you are worried about dps then replace anything with resil on it, You lose too much in much needed stats like crit and spell power. But thats the best thing I can tell you. Oh And I hear arcane is still Overpowered right now so you could try that as well.

1. Your hit is too high, maybe you have some hit gems you could replace with crit/haste gems or SP gems.
2. Replace your blue with an epic, replace your 10 man gear with 25 man gear.
3. FFB spec is not the best spec, Fireball/Torment of the Weak (19/52/0) is the best spec.
4. GET RID OF glyph of evocation. Instead, get glyph of molten armor. Also exchange glyph of imp scorch with glyph of living bomb.
5. Rotation: scorch x5, living bomb, fireball
6. Get the best enchants.

Get 2 crits in a row, and you get instant pyroblast, USE THAT. Also always use Combustion and Icy Veins. I have a lot of good macros on my mage that help a lot.

First off, you have to replace the Evocation Glyph with a Molten armor glyph. Second as FFB stat priority goes Hit>SP>Crit>Haste since FFb relies on crit multipliers for dps. as of now with dual specs you can make your 2nd spec one with focus magic and cast it on someone and switch back to FFb and it stays applied.

First of all the dummy's are not a reliable sorce.
ATM fire/frost is not the best. A mage inb my guild named Kaorii(gnome mage on anvilmar server) is frost and see puts out about 3k+ dps in naxx 10 and 4k+ in 25 man, idk if its your spec but thats not the best any more. you should check kaorii out and look at her spec and see if you like it, make sure your following your rotations exact.
if you make sure your doing everything right and what not your dps should go up

well, yeah, but think about it you're buffed up to the eyeballs since they have all the class buffs rather than limitations and i've seen personally that mages do more damage in 25 mans, from personal experience

6. Get Light Weave Embroidery on your cloak, it is now AMAZING.
7. Spell power enchant on your gloves.
8. Keybind, don't click. Clicking will lower your DPS and cause you to die in harder fights as you will be paying attention to your action bar instead of whats in front of you.
9. Ideally in a 25 man raid you want to be around 50 percent crit buffed. Your base crit of 30 is not bad as raid buffs will bring you up in the high 40 percent area. Dropping all of your haste is a bad idea.

3. You always want to gem for raw spell power, Runed Scarlet Ruby is your friend. Unless there is a good set bonus then you could use a hybrid gem of spell power and crit.
4. It is still in debate but it looks like the glyph of Living Bomb is out weighing the glyph of scorch so try that out.
5. Your rotation should be LB to get it ticking right away, Get your scorch to 5 stack and then FFB > Hot streak, refresh your LB and don't let your scorch stack fall off.

Don't listen to most of these players. Here are your biggest mistakes.
1. Incorrect meta gem, you should ONLY use the Chaotic Skyflare Gem, the 3 percent increased damage is huge.
2. Instead of glyph of evocation get the glyph of molten armor.
3. The hit cap for any caster is 17 percent, with precision in your build you only need 14 percent. If you have a Spriest or Boomkin providing IMP FF or Misery that adds another 3 percent and knocks your hit down to 11 percent. Drop some hit gear.

After reviewing your gear a bit more I retract my statement about removing hit gear. With precision you are at 15.85 percent, 1.25 percent off of the cap. If you have a Boomkin/Spriest in your raid then you will be over hit cat and then you may start removing a little hit gear.

dude dont bother using the boss dummy...use the level 80 dummy..much lesser misses = more dps...and it is more accurate since u would normally have raid buffs against a boss...

Hey white swords (BIG FAN) but i have the same problem and this is wot people in my guild have been telling me if your doing PvE go arcane as this gives you the most istance/very quick cast time spells and so forth or this is what im doing im going to duel spec full arcane for PvE and do fire arcane so you can use pressence of minds with pryo to make it an instance cast which dose ASWUME dps and then find gylphs to reduces cast time of things and enchaancts and so forth /w bk if this was helpfu

i get more DPS than that on my paladin tank :S get some buffs for SP and INT asap, and try to get full epic from raids ( naxx 10/25 ) then go ulduar to try and get some new content ( first boss in ulduar has a really nice 1h sword with good sp )

I am a 72 DK and pretty good at Dps i.m.o, even though my gear kinda sucks, well its northrend greens most of it, I got a purple :). so yeh, thats my advice

Yah im having a similar problem on dps on my 80 shadow priest. I just installed recount, and i'm going to test my overall dps. Btw, your dps could have to do with the spell rotation, try altering the spells you use.

You will most likely do around 3k dps in raid buffs. You are fine, although I do suggest going fire (not frostfire) once you get enough gear. Basically you can use frostfire until you got the gear then use fire for all fights until your guild can kill bosses in 1-2 1/2 minutes at which time you switch to arcane for 7k dps.

Your selfbuffed dps is OK for the stats you have!! You should get at least 2k dps in raids with that gear.
But you need more spellpower (2k+) and more crit (30%+).
The gear/enchants.. hava to match your spec. Some specs need more spellpower, some more crit, some maybe haste. Either get a calculator and do the math yourself, or find someone with a dps of 4k+ (recount) and copy his spec & stats.
By the way, recount IS accurate. Blizzard just likes to blame all their problems onto addons.

Well, i have a 80 mage, (themikeman) and i dont have great gear and i can do over 2.5k dps every fight and i also can do 3k dps every time i pop my cooldowns. i found Arcane is alot better becasue it is more constant then frostfire. so if you read this and think im worth it. check out my guys talent tree on wow armoury. First off, In my experience Arcane is much, much better dps.
But if you're wanting to stay Fire/Frost my number one recommendation would be to drop alot of haste and hit (You only need 368 hit if you have precision and you don't get much benefit from haste as Fire/Frost).
Fire/Frost is all about the crits. You should work on getting around 25%-30% crit chance.
Also, Scorch > Living Bomb > Frostfire Bolt > *Pyroblast if hotstreak procs* > Repeat

roation is wrong at first you should always stack 5 scorches to burn the target, then you should put a living bomb on the target, then you sould do frostfirebolt until you get the hot streak, which gives you an instant pyroball cast.

problem is you don't have the right weapon yet, the little blue is nice and stuff but getting an epic weapon (naxx) with +63 SP is the shit for mages ( imo ), throw enchants on everything! and i mean EVERYTHINGGGGGG xD boost up that SP as high as u possibly can with the resources you have and you can't rlly do more than that, just raid , get the stuff you need, dps comes with gear so just keep doing those raids ;) hope it helps a little bit ;)

It's not all about gear. Try changing up your Glyphs abit, like. Drop the Evocation and try to get Molten Shield. Also, as most stated. Your rotation on things is a little off, practice at it. With 3.1 you should only have to cast Scorch once (5x stacks from Glyph).
