That's a stupid argument. First off nearly everybody drinks alcohol and not everybody dies from it. Who knows what the casualty list would be if everybody took LSD in the same numbers as those that drink? Maybe he and a few intellectuals enjoyed LSD (they don't take it now for some reason) but what about all the casualties? Syd Barrett? I took it once and had panic attacks from it for YEARS after. Don't listen to this fat bellied has-been trying to relive his glory days. LSD is for the stupid.

@dharmashooter Well LSD may not be for everyone, but that is still not a reason for it to be illegal. LSD should be used not in a recreational way but in more of a spiritual way. It should be used as a tool for expanding your mind, and to find true enlightenment. I believe that if you're comparing the dangers of LSD to alcohol there are far more dangers with drinking. Not just the mental dangers but also physical. You can put your body through a lot of harm when you're drunk.

Classic, the fact of the matter is that alcohol causes alot of damage to the body. it affects every organ in the body (liver, brain, stomach, skin) because it is a poison. LSD is NOT a poison, it is not toxsic to the body and so travels through without harm. plus alot more people get violent from drinking than they do from LSD, but then again thats proberly due to the type of ignorant people who drink alcohol and belive its the "safe option.

Well, I used to do LSD back in the mid 90's and I remember that during my trip and the following day I could not fix up my body and soul with nutrients or a simple 8hour sleep. I really hope that you understand how much damage LSD can cause over your trip (24 + hrs)

After a great amount of scotch and soda I wake up after a good night sleep and start to feed my system with vitamins and minerals. That's Not because Im healthy NO.1 !!! .

I like Kesey but he's "full of it." My best friend from Jr High School "flipped out" at Blair Academy in New Jersey and has been institutionalized for over 40 years. Another friend who scored 1500 on his SAT's and was accepted at Yale put his head through a door his Senior year in high school..never went to college and ended up sweeping floors in the Portland Me Post Office. I had a number of BAD trips where I thought I'd lost my mind. LSD was NOT benign. Believe me. Alot of casualties.

This was in the late 60's and early 70's. I don't know about "jumping into the deep end of the pool." I'm from a priviledged background. I'd say quite the opposite. After about 1971 the LSD became quite adulterated. Prior to that it was powerful and pure. If you had a "bad trip" you had a "bad trip." I saw where Kesey said on the Tom Snyder show years ago after being asked, "did LSD harm you at all?" His answer, "sure. There are pros and cons to everything. Acid too."

Ever read Tom Wolfe's book "The Electric Koolaid Acid Test?" If you had you'd know Kesey and the Pranksters certainly didn't do any "prep." They were out having a good time. Certainly most of the people at the Acid Tests watching the Dead didn't do much "prep." Leary's crowd in Millbrook New York did alot of "prep." They were into the whole LSD "experience." When the Pranksters met up with the Learyites in Millbrook it didn't go off too well because their whole philosophy was opposite.

I left the interview at that point, because I could see that the interesting and insightful person {Kesey} was going to be drowned out by the insipid twosome.
