Que maravilla!, Trio Kinsa, I am Peruvian and I'm so proud to hear my music interpreted in such a classical style. There are more beautiful Peruvian pieces that you should explore, such as my favorite: "Amanecer Andino"..it's a masterpiece..I think you would do a fantastic job with it. Have you recorded a CD of Peruvian music? I hope you're thinking about it. T
Mr. Mazzini and trio, what an amazing piece and performance! I am an orchestral clarinetist here in the US, and I'm amazed at the beautiful and controlled tone you achieve on the contrabass. I stuck with the high end of the clarinet family- the Bb and Eb. I am always impressed with lower end clarinetists, as I just couldn't manage the jaw control with that much vibration.
@believetheunseen Thank you very much for your kind words. I love playing all kind of music and well, I have some preference for low sounds - and I think the contrabass clarinet mix very well with the cello. Greetings from Perú!
@marcomazzini mr.Mazzini, have you ever done this with a double bass instead of a cello? i think the outcome would be quite impressive, however this was splendid.
Most amazing how well the cello and contrabass clarinet work together! So much on here with the contrabass clarinet is amateur or novelty so it's amazing to hear a serious work that sounds Peruvian by way of Japan. Bravo, Brava!

over it but i dont have enough money to buy one :) holy crap thats a low instroment. the bass clarinets E on the lowest octave is the contrabass's E on the middle octave. wow its really deep
Saludos,
Wow, this is nice. I have one of these contrabass clarinets that I'm resurrecting from the grave right now (highly abused by its previous owner, wasn't in working condition when I got it) and when it works, it sounds great, but getting there is quite a challenge. In particular, the octave key mechanism has some serious issues just in its design. How do you get the secondary octave key to sit closed tightly when the lower notes G and below are being played?
I'm a little confused - you say that, in this version, the baritone sax is replaced by a cello. However, there are places where the cello is playing WAY above the range of a bari sax. How could this cello part have been originally played on a bari sax?
Good question with a simple answer: since I re-adapted the baritone sax part for the cello, it will be a bit boring to let the cello play the very same thing as the bari did - so I added some glissandos and placed some passages one octave higher, while I play one octave lower. In this way the piece is more interesting for the cello and the sound gets a bit more "spacy". Thanks a lot for your question.
when someone arranges music to be played on an instrument that it wasn't written for(like arranging something to piano) do they keep everything exactly the same? no. they will usually add a few or alot of different things to it.
That's correct! In this case, there is a big introduction (which is not the original, with the piano hitting the strings) and a lot of new voices - and of course, the harmony is very different from the original. Thanks for your comment!
So amazing the music you three play, and I must say its very original ad refreshing to hear the contrabass clarinet in such a small setting - finally used as a real voice! Great playing, wonderful music, five stars.
this video makes me want a contrabass clarinet lol. i love them, but i've never even seen one in person :[ and i unfortunately don't have the $15,000+ it costs to buy one haha
Anyway, if you're serious, could you post a video of it please? I'm really curious to actually see one other than on a blurry picture, let alone hear it!
You recognise some Japanese flavour because this composition is based in a pentatonic scale - all the themes are just five notes. Specially the first part, I do hear some oriental sound....but this is Peruvian music! Thanks for your comment.
