@ anasko it says it sound like ga and your book says ka. Your book says ka because, the sound ga is pushed on, like the g has more humph to it and that humph makes it sound like a k, but it's a g
6:12 around there the top left figure. I bought a korean book that says the first letter in that syllable is K so the syllable is pronounced Ka but you have it as Ga. Which one is right? o.o
@anakso yeah i was confused about that too. But i actually looked it up online not too long ago, and one website was saying that it should sound like a 'ka' if its being used in the beginning of the word and if it was used in the middle of a word then it should be pronounced 'ga'. I'm not sure how right that is, just thought that it might help. ^^;;
@songokukingdomhearts Hi, the vowel is ㅐ, but we didn't cover the vowel here because it's not one of the basic vowels. and you can find the vowel on our Hangul video series at Koreanclass101,com Visit the website and click the video lessons on the menu. You can learn more vowels beyond Basic.
so easy OMG, I'm learning Japanese and Chinese and I have to learn all this Kanji, for hangug eon all you need to learn is this alphabet, however I think the grammar is harder :/
Im New and hehe i have been listening to Kpop now for about 2 years and i can understand a little but i thought that should just learn so i can understand it completely I hope this helps :)
@chocolatto25@chocolatto25 Hi Chocolatto25, The sounds for Ja자 and Ga가 are different. G is more likely the pronunciation of G in Gangs, while J is like Johnson's J.
ㅂ looks like a glass of water ,ㅈ looks like cat whiskers ,ㄷ looks like a C , ㄱ looks like an angle, ㅅ looks like 人(chinese word for people) , ㅛ looks like two sticks on the ground, ㅐ lokks like H, ㅁ looks like a box ㄴ looks like another angle, ㅇ looks like a o,ㄹ looks like a uber curved worm,ㅎ looks like a man with a hat ,ㅣ looks like an I , ㅠ looks like a pi sign , ㅜ looks like a T ,ㅡ looks like a string....
@oOshikamaruloverOo Hello : ) Thanks for the comment. I hope our other lessons would also help you learn Korean as this lesson did : ) - Jaehwi / Koreanclass101,com
ㄱ, ㄷ, ㅂ, ㅈ may sound k, t, p, ch to non-Korean speakers whenever it is the first part of the word, but it always has a g, d, b, j sound when it is the second or third part of the word. for example, if non-Korean speakers hear a Korean person saying the name of the Kpop group Kara member Kang Ji Young in an American way with surname at the end, it would sound like Chi Young Gang. Names like John Park would be pronounced Chon Bahk, but pronounced Park John if written in Korean way
its easy to learn but there are many letters in vowels somehow sounding the same and the silence letters on the consonants also confusing, apart form this its so easy to follow and its great! may i request the up loaders to kindly give the pronunciations of each ALPHABETS in english as the first letter "giyeok" K/G ,ect... thanks
@sugam1 Hello, Sugam1. I'm Jaehwi from Koreanclass101,com
Thank you for the comment and feedback. Korean characters seem similar each other especially when their sounds are similar. At first, it would be not easy, but I believe that this mechanism will help you memorize them easily if you follow the sounds.
And.. for the name of each character, here it is : )
ㄱ g giyeok , ㄴ n nieun , ㄷ d digeut , ㄹ r rieul , ㅁ m mieum , ㅂ b bieup , ㅅ s siot , ㅇ ng ieung , ㅈ j jieut , ㅊ ch chieut , ㅋ k kieuk , ㅌ t tieut , ㅍ p pieup , ㅎ h hieut ,

Hi. I have a question that is kinda bothering me. The work ㄱ and ㅋ. It's Kinda hard to understand when they told me that Kiuek is Kinda a hard K. While Giyeok was like a soft k with the g.... Please tell me about this. Since I find this hard to udnerstand. thank you
ㄱ sound is more likely G sound of Green, and ㅋ is more likely C sound of Crayon.
That's most challenging part to learn Korean as Englsih native speakers. Please don't worry about it at the first pace. You'll be able to get trained ears soon.
@Found2k11 Right. Sometimes, ㄱ sounds more likely K in English depends on what vowels and consontants it meets. WIthout knowing words that use ㄱ or ㅋ, even for Koreans, it is not easy to find difficults. If you more words more, then you can get more sense to see the differences.
@robertbeckius Hi! Thank you for asking us. Actually ㅗ sounds like Okay's O in English, and ㅜ sounds like 'Yahoo's 'oo' sound in English. @ifuplaythendie Hi, Thanks for the comment. And.. I'm wondering it you meant you don't understand when you are trying to read Korean words although you know Hangul(Korean character). If so, I believe the beginners course at our website will be helpful. If it is okay, you can also listen to lessons with 7 day free trial at koreanclass101,com
@52849266 Hangul is not meaning letter. It's like alphabet. So we can type it very fast and easily.Chinese letter is meaning letter. So it takes more time to type it.
@IJUSTNEEDITify I think more and more people tries to learn Korean. And just in the case that you want to learn more to understand Kpop, our website can help you. It is Koreanclass101,com, and you can have 7-day free trial.
@tellmeyourwishgenie1 well. there is a 7 day free trial service that you can listen to all lessons for seven days for free. You can try the service : )
when i was in beginner korean class the alphabet took a lot of practice to learn. because they all look similar i had to create little tricks for me to remember. also my handwriting was horrible because i was trying too hard to imitate the calligraphic appearance of the letters ...
@stupidsminkle I think you are now master of all korean alphabets. It should be difficult at the beginning because you should memorize them and assemble them with others. But, Koreans use only Korean characters and I think it should be so much better preparation for learning Korean. I wish you good luck on your learning!
@BadboiRules no.. actually Korean is one of the easiest languages to read in the world. Korea has the world's lowest illiteracy rate and kids learn how to read as soon as a 1.5 years old in international age. Most kids can read and write as they enter kindergarten and write journals in grade 1 of elementary school
I am 10 and my mom said I have to learn while I am still young. If I learned it I would nit need to wait for subbed episodes! I might even be the one who sub them!!!
It is true. Romanization makes it hard for us to read Korean. So i've tried the other way and it worked!! I can read Hangul without looking into textbooks or manuals. YIPEEE!!!
I'm here because of SS501. I need to understand korean if I really want to be a certified TRIPLE S. SO HERE I AM!!! and I'm gaining progress!! Thank God!!!
This video was stupid. Romanization is needed to show how the constants are pronounced in English. Foreigners are born knowing Korean. By showing the Roman letters next to the constants and vowels, it is easier to explain to foreigners how the come together to form sounds. Also the both of them repeating themselves over and over, laughing at their own jokes, and not getting to the point of video is very very annoying. Would have been better to make a focused and to the point video.
I'm Vietnamese & wanting to learn Korean. Any Korean school in Australia, Victoria, Melbourne? LOL :D ILOVEKPOP!! I am a Korean fan (": I want to travel to Korea :P
@akromaakromaakroma I think is "da". btw if you pronunce D and listen very well, you will notice that should sound a bit like a T even if you don't want to pronunce it.
sorry if I write wrong in english ^^ I'm italian...
All this talk about kpop and dramas convinced me to drop Korean preemptively. I didn't think a language with students more obnoxious than Japanese could exist , but apparently I was wrong.
@sacrisesma you stopped learning korean because other people learning it talked about k drama and kpop? why should that make you stop learning a language ? xD learn it if you want to, just dont read the comments xD

when i was in beginner korean class the alphabet took a lot of practice to learn. because they all look similar i had to create little tricks for me to remember. also my handwriting was horrible because i was trying too hard to imitate the calligraphic appearance of the letters ...
stupidsminkle 7 months ago
@stupidsminkle I think you are now master of all korean alphabets. It should be difficult at the beginning because you should memorize them and assemble them with others. But, Koreans use only Korean characters and I think it should be so much better preparation for learning Korean. I wish you good luck on your learning!

Why do they keep on saying "It's so eaaasy." I guess you can only say that when you masteres it. lol
BadboiRules 7 months ago 50
@BadboiRules no.. actually Korean is one of the easiest languages to read in the world. Korea has the world's lowest illiteracy rate and kids learn how to read as soon as a 1.5 years old in international age. Most kids can read and write as they enter kindergarten and write journals in grade 1 of elementary school
tokee1234567 5 months ago
@tokee1234567 you mean highest literacy rate? :) Hehe, I guess that was months ago, good thing now I can read and write Korean. :D

It is true. Romanization makes it hard for us to read Korean. So i've tried the other way and it worked!! I can read Hangul without looking into textbooks or manuals. YIPEEE!!!

xoxointerspellar 8 months ago 6
This video was stupid. Romanization is needed to show how the constants are pronounced in English. Foreigners are born knowing Korean. By showing the Roman letters next to the constants and vowels, it is easier to explain to foreigners how the come together to form sounds. Also the both of them repeating themselves over and over, laughing at their own jokes, and not getting to the point of video is very very annoying. Would have been better to make a focused and to the point video.

i don't get the 3rd consonant is it pronounced as "ta" or "da"
akromaakromaakroma 9 months ago
@akromaakromaakroma I think is "da". btw if you pronunce D and listen very well, you will notice that should sound a bit like a T even if you don't want to pronunce it.
sorry if I write wrong in english ^^ I'm italian...
RockWithMascara1995 8 months ago

All this talk about kpop and dramas convinced me to drop Korean preemptively. I didn't think a language with students more obnoxious than Japanese could exist , but apparently I was wrong.
sacrisesma 9 months ago
@sacrisesma you stopped learning korean because other people learning it talked about k drama and kpop? why should that make you stop learning a language ? xD learn it if you want to, just dont read the comments xD
