you keep saying about his round at the 6 bar when he jumped like super high, do u hav it?, i would luv for u to link it in this clip or if u reply to link it in the reply, thanks this horse is amazing and Rodrigo is amazing, and hot : D
I haven't found it yet, I think I do. Hell, I have about 80 old VHSs of horse show stuff, and have only gone through about a third of them in the 4yrs that I've been posting them here. I post as I find stuff. Hopefully I'll run across that one sooner than later.
Indeed. You should see his ride to the very first pic, in his video "Loro Piana Tomboy: most powerful showjumper ever" ... where he jumps with nearly 2ft of air, over a 5'3" fence!
yeah, I kinda agree with the speakers on the stag thing--the horse is NOT a graceful jumper. He kind of...yeah, LEAPS. it is still AMAZING and very powerful, but it's not the typical technique and it's more bounding than arching as most horses do...
Agreed, but he's what I refer to as a "WHO CARES" horse...
...he's got an Olympic medal, he holds the N.American 6Bar record (which is still unbroken 13yrs later), and he's won/gone clean in numerous FEI level grands prix...... so when all that's taken into account, WHO CARES how he looks over fences-- since it gets the job done, and done well ;)
Wow! It's amazing how slow he keeps the pace set for that high of jumps...I wish my horse would go that slow! He feels the need to rush them, but, anyway, great riding for him!
This horse has an ENORMOUS stride-- it's very deceiving. He looks like he's just ambling along for a canter in the countryside, but he actually covers a tremendous amount of ground at pace.
She doesn't knock him, she just says he's unconventional (which is true), and then compliments him on his incredible power, saying that "that's what you're going to need today".
Careful, because Nancy Southern is probably one of the most knowledgeable people about showjumping on Earth ;)
God that horse must be hard to get used to! I've never seen anything quite like it! That 'dangling' gets my heart in my mouth every time - and the amount of air he has to put between himself and the jump to compensate really takes away energy from the impulsion - he appears to pause over the jump, suspended. Weird technique to say the least, but hey! it works for him! Beautiful horse.
They did that a lot in this competition, particularly for the British and Irish riders.
...she (Nancy Southern) was talking about how Peter Charles and La Ina going clear, and then the horse knocks down the very last fence, to which he (Ian Allison) follows up with "...that is NOT the luck of the Irish". LOL
Call it irony, or whatever, but Peter and La Ina won next year's du Maurier. So it's all good ;)
Although, interestingly enough: they spoke all sorts of not-so-positive comments about the beginning of (their home-team woman) Laura Balisky's round with Easy Boy...
...and yet the two of them put in a SPECTACULAR clean round over this very same course.
You can see that round in the video "Easy Boy: 1995 du Maurier"

impressive...but his olympic rounds were much more spectacular!

Agreed. Part of that might be that in this show, he and Rodrigo had only been together for a few months.
They had nearly a year and a half more, to get to know each other, before the Olympics. I'm sure that helped, tremendously.

the horse seems to be getting a bit tired.
still amazing though.

I'm aware... which is probably why I began my reply with "agreed". ;)

Actually, he's not going slow at all.
