  • That's a killer fuzz! Dude looks a lot like charlie Manson though..

    But great pedal!

  • where can i find this pedal?

  • Gear wire employees are always little, hairy and stoned

  • People save me. 4 months ago I bought a Bass Big Muff Pi for 70 euros. Today I found the russian one 80 euros, I tested it (well it sounds better), but if I buy it shall I keep the previous one or there would be no reason to have them both.

  • russian war and russian black are better

  • Does anyone know where i can buy this version now ehx have stopped making them?

  • so much talking bullshit at the beginning

  • Whoever suggested that you make that joke at the beginning of the segment was most likely fucking with you. He or she succeeded, it ruined the whole demo.

  • leave the guy alone you pricks

  • Jesus Christ, that was the most akward introduction to a video ever. Ahhhh!

  • Damn is he holding that guitar or is that guitar holding him

  • You look like the guy from s.o.a.d.

  • This guy spends half the video explaining 3 knobs! lol Now exactly what does the distortion knob do? lol

  • Trop de Blabla du son du son .............

  • ei duuuuuuude this In Soviet Russia Muff bigs u joke is offical dude i heared it somewhere else and u r the first i giggles allill bit when i heard it from u fist time but now i just pass out seeing and hearing u

    duuuuude monster joke

    that was

Iknow one in soviet russia giggle jokes myouuu duude lol hahahaha

    im dead

  • so wait is this the EXACT pedal mudhoney used or did they use the green one?

  • I was thinking of getting my Rusky fixed and maybe selling it...this video reminded me of why I love it so much and am keeping it!

  • He's wearing a Tool shirt. The irony is practically slapping me in the face. BTW, I know Tool is a kick-ass metal band. ;)

  • "Sure, the veriety isn't great, but it's still greater than the number of Soviet political parties."

You could go to gulag for this.

  • @FSBass

    he should.

  • I love my Russian Big Muff. So glad I picked one up.

  • I love this pedal!

  • damn, why didnt i ever think of using this for tool!

  • Thank you!

    I love big muff.

    Muff Muff !!!

  • sounds really good actually, very smooth fuzz tone.

  • for QOTSA and nirvana which is better, the USA Big Muff or the russian one? I play through a peavey valveking with a schecter c-1 classic

  • @MrBlink41SUM On Nevermind kurt used a USA big muff and for bleach he used a boss ds1. on in utero and live he used a boss ds2. the ds2 sounds like a ds1 in regular mode and in turbo mode kind of like an extreme big muff. just get a boss ds2 turbo distortion. NIRVANA RULES!! also RIP Ronny James Dio.

  • @evanh41

On Nevermind, Cobain actually only uses his Big Muff as a fuzzboost at some places, like towards the end of "Stay Away", and not as his main distortion unit. This according to EHX themselfes.

  • @AlmigthyIsDead yeah that to but i was mainly refering to the use of the big muff during lithium and few other tracks on nevermind. but really for MrBlink41SUM's needs he should get a boss ds1 or an EHX bass big muff because they dont make the russian version anymore

  • @evanh41

Ah, I see. Yeah, Kurt Cobain used a DS-2 live much but I had one before and had a hard time nailing the sound. It's a cool pedal nevertheless, but russian big muffs were made until 2009 so they should be reasonable to find.

  • how big this guitar!! or is the man that is in mini-mode?

  • How smoooooooth does it get?

  • ibanez iceman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @GRJNPKSN They make iceman ukuleles

  • This Muff is better than the new NYC Reissue. Better bass heavier tone. It sucks that they are discontinued and if your looking for one go to ebay. they sell between $30.00-$200.00

  • This guys at gear wire need some fresh air and suntan..

  • OMG it is Jesus!

  • Jimmy used a sovtek muff huh ? hahaha

  • are you scared?

  • first of nice shoes. I love my sambas and wear them for everything, including formal occasions.

But in regards to this here pedal. IS it capable of making those high treble fuzzy breakups that you hear in Jack White's sound? I love how his solos sound with that dirty fuzzy breakup. Anyone know what im talking about? This pedal seems to be more creamy and dark sounding.

  • @abubacar Yeah, you'd be right, the sound is probably a bit "thick" for what you want. I have this model and I find that high treble parts sound slightly washed out on this pedal. It's definitely better for heavier riffage....what it does, it does very well, but you won't get much variety. Try a superfuzz pedal (or a clone) instead maybe. I don't own one so I can't recommend any personally, but the ones i've heard other people play seem to be a lot better at that sort of thing.

  • IN SOVIET RUSSIA MUFF BIGS YOU!!

but anyways, i prefer the sovtek russian muff over the Us muff any day of the week. gives me everything from david gilmour style leads to kevin shields/MBV style wall of fuzz and everything in between. sure it's not a full on metal distortion, but that's why they make high gain amps.

  • Nice sound! It's great to see a guitar gear review and not to hear the same old blues licks that everybody plays, no matter what pedal they are reviewing.... At least he's original and the muff fits well with his style.

  • Rasputin!

  • Hey man, you seem like an amish!

  • 3:16

    Sounded Tool-ish

  • @saraband0

he got a tool shirt xD

  • That joke was so stupid it was kinda funny

  • man, that is a huge guitar!!!

  • i think its just a small dude

  • fuckin ibanez ice man. i fuckin wanted one of the bass versions wich were huge haha

  • "speaking of toning things down, it also tones the, uh, tonal options....up"

  • I tried to order one...but they told me that they arent in production anymore :/

  • there's always a bunch on ebay for less than 50 bucks

  • tool!!!!!!!!

  • hahahahhahahha

  • that guitar is small, and it is HUGE on him, he must be a midget. crap guitar also

  • i haven't played the new ones, but i have an older one, switched out the pickups and i get a great tone out of it. I would assume the new ones are crap, just an easy way to resell something... and your right about the guitar bein small, I remember seeing Daron Malakian play one and it looked huge on him. Bought mine and the thing looks small as hell - and i'm not a big dude haha... that dude definitely is tiny in stature

  • @tiddlywinks98712 Did you just said that the Iceman is a crappy guitar?

  • @tiddlywinks98712 your mom is crap , bitch

  • @tonyvegas13 ahaha mmmoooooommmmm, typical whiney American

  • Hendrix got to play a prototype of the original Muff.

  • funny that jimi used original big muffs seeing that he was dead when they went into production.

  • ever heard of ghosts!?! fool

  • hahah that made me LAWL!

  • Hendrix never used this

  • he has his name on his shirt!

  • math's the sone you play for most of the demo?

  • Skip to 2:40 to miss this guy talking

  • thx man xD

  • thx dude haha

  • @Stickit2thamon much appreciated

  • look an Amish man..

  • its jesus. i swear hes wearing sandals.

  • this guitar is huge compared to him haha

  • This little pussy is a nerd but that's a good song and a good pedal

  • 2:50 before the bloody demo starts. EPIC GET ON WITH THE REVIEW!!

Why do gearwire insist on doing everything from showing you the packaging to introducing you to the designer's mum?!? Just a product demo thanks

  • Don't go to Gearwire if you don't want a complete review of the product.

  • good demo, beautiful guitar, nice pedal!!, but i hate your shoes...

  • Big =/= verb.

  • That is one of the stupidest things I've heard. A shape isn't going to change the playing of the guitar.

  • well, in what sense?

because strat contours definitely make it more comfortable to play, ie easier playing.

that being said, hack off a horn and its going to play the same

  • how much it cost well i live in Bolivia and i wish to have one but i dont know if i can get it lol

  • This is one of the nicest sounding fuzz'es I've ever heard, could be the guitar (what Ibanez is this anyway?) but it sure sounds great

  • it's a ibanez iceman

  • shut up and play

  • This pedal does or almost nails the Black Sabbath/The Sword tone

  • Nice Demo.

The Black Sovtek is my all time favorite Big Muff and I've tried or owned vintage, NYC and several clones. The Green and Black Russians are the best. Also check out the Absolutely Analog Green Russian...a High quality Green Sovtek clone.

  • "Although it was officially released the year after his death, Jimi Hendrix did try out prototypes of the Big Muff and the pedal was supposedly modeled after his late Band of Gypsies-era tone." this is from wikipedia, but i seem to remember mike relating this to us at NAMM.

  • Haha, that's lovely. So you can just say Hendrix used them, and it makes it true. Prototypes or not, he technically didn't use a Big Muff Pi as we know it.

Tried out, yeah. But still not one as we know it.

  • There is only one way to compare communism and capitalism: Which is the better muff.

  • "there was only one Soviet political party"

Yes, that was the joke. Congrats.

  • Is it true it doesnt have an adapter capabilities and runs soley on batteries?

  • GEARMANNDUDE made his Russian BMP sound much better in the EH Fuzz Shootout

  • lol it's the caveman from the geico commercials

  • Sounds great!

WTF is up with the guitar being triple the size of the guy???

He looks like a hairy french fry holding a pair of scissors.

  • "Big Muff Pi" Sounds like a porn name.

  • hahaaahh

  • i have about 3 of these russian versions and love them all. now i need to sell my muff for a russian version of the same.

  • The 1973 ram's head big muffs are the ones that Gilmour uses. I have one too. They are by far the best. These sound muddy. SO do the NYC ones.

  • you look nervous hehe, nice review & playing though. 5 stars.

  • This sounds more usable then my EH NYC big muff. I'm also playing thru a fender amp..so it's definitely not my amp. Thanks for the review.

  • I agree
