People save me. 4 months ago I bought a Bass Big Muff Pi for 70 euros. Today I found the russian one 80 euros, I tested it (well it sounds better), but if I buy it shall I keep the previous one or there would be no reason to have them both.

@MrBlink41SUM On Nevermind kurt used a USA big muff and for bleach he used a boss ds1. on in utero and live he used a boss ds2. the ds2 sounds like a ds1 in regular mode and in turbo mode kind of like an extreme big muff. just get a boss ds2 turbo distortion. NIRVANA RULES!! also RIP Ronny James Dio.
On Nevermind, Cobain actually only uses his Big Muff as a fuzzboost at some places, like towards the end of "Stay Away", and not as his main distortion unit. This according to EHX themselfes.
@AlmigthyIsDead yeah that to but i was mainly refering to the use of the big muff during lithium and few other tracks on nevermind. but really for MrBlink41SUM's needs he should get a boss ds1 or an EHX bass big muff because they dont make the russian version anymore
Ah, I see. Yeah, Kurt Cobain used a DS-2 live much but I had one before and had a hard time nailing the sound. It's a cool pedal nevertheless, but russian big muffs were made until 2009 so they should be reasonable to find.
This Muff is better than the new NYC Reissue. Better bass heavier tone. It sucks that they are discontinued and if your looking for one go to ebay. they sell between $30.00-$200.00
first of nice shoes. I love my sambas and wear them for everything, including formal occasions.
But in regards to this here pedal. IS it capable of making those high treble fuzzy breakups that you hear in Jack White's sound? I love how his solos sound with that dirty fuzzy breakup. Anyone know what im talking about? This pedal seems to be more creamy and dark sounding.
@abubacar Yeah, you'd be right, the sound is probably a bit "thick" for what you want. I have this model and I find that high treble parts sound slightly washed out on this pedal. It's definitely better for heavier riffage....what it does, it does very well, but you won't get much variety. Try a superfuzz pedal (or a clone) instead maybe. I don't own one so I can't recommend any personally, but the ones i've heard other people play seem to be a lot better at that sort of thing.
but anyways, i prefer the sovtek russian muff over the Us muff any day of the week. gives me everything from david gilmour style leads to kevin shields/MBV style wall of fuzz and everything in between. sure it's not a full on metal distortion, but that's why they make high gain amps.
Nice sound! It's great to see a guitar gear review and not to hear the same old blues licks that everybody plays, no matter what pedal they are reviewing.... At least he's original and the muff fits well with his style.
i haven't played the new ones, but i have an older one, switched out the pickups and i get a great tone out of it. I would assume the new ones are crap, just an easy way to resell something... and your right about the guitar bein small, I remember seeing Daron Malakian play one and it looked huge on him. Bought mine and the thing looks small as hell - and i'm not a big dude haha... that dude definitely is tiny in stature
The Black Sovtek is my all time favorite Big Muff and I've tried or owned vintage, NYC and several clones. The Green and Black Russians are the best. Also check out the Absolutely Analog Green Russian...a High quality Green Sovtek clone.
"Although it was officially released the year after his death, Jimi Hendrix did try out prototypes of the Big Muff and the pedal was supposedly modeled after his late Band of Gypsies-era tone." this is from wikipedia, but i seem to remember mike relating this to us at NAMM.
Haha, that's lovely. So you can just say Hendrix used them, and it makes it true. Prototypes or not, he technically didn't use a Big Muff Pi as we know it.
