I would LOVE to be in a Civil War reenactment. Despite being "fake" I think it would be quite exhilarating, the smoke, the sounds, the yells... not to mention it's extremely similar to what the actual soldiers and men suffered to at the real battles...
@Jovian84 Thats because it was a second american revolution. The same thing we fought the english over in the first war for independence was the same thing we fought the federal govt. over in the second war for independence. The confederate constitution outlawed slavery. Not a single slave in under the st. andrews cross they all came in northern ships under the stars and stripes. During the revolution slavery was legal and every colony owned slaves.
i love gettysburg, because without it, america wouldnt be the same america. if lee had taken longstreets advice and gone around the troops, he could have easily broken through the 10,000 man D.C. defence patrol and the war would have been over. The greatest blunder in military history and thank goodness for it
@Jovian84 well u can't expect Confederates to have the same oppinion as u. Thats like saying they shud have all have been as advanced in their tolerance as we are today. Basically the confederates felt threatened by the Northeners forcing laws on them, I mean it shows there was a distinct lack of democracy if there was a situation where 21 states were against slavery and 14 were for it, but those 14 had to agree with the others. You need to analyse history in their perspectives not yours.
@UACmarine2O8 still wouln't have worked, because the only way they could push back the North was through meeting them in formation, so if they wren't cut to pieces by rifle fire and cannonfire they would have been cut topieces wit the bayonet.
@civilwarcorporal I have left instructions that, should I die before that time, to be disinterred, dumped in a box, shipped to the site, and have the remains blow out of one of the unit's tubes. Oh, I'll be there!
@civilwarcorporal i wud bloody love to but i'm english so obv live in england lol. My mum's aunty lives in america nearby, so hoping for an invite but probs wont get one.
y'all probably won't believe me but my great, great grandfather was one of the two people who actually made it to the wall on the third day, he actually carried the flag
@superclayton1000 well thats appalling if ppl bothered to look up their roots, then alot of people wud find out some spectacular stuff, cos i shud imgine most ppl's relatives will have contributed to that war. And as for the ppl who don't care u don't want to be sharing info like that with them. But that's amazing that, i wud have thought every american wud have known wot Gettysburg is, cos alot of ppl in England dont know what Waterloo was, but i put it down to the fact it took place in Belgium
@historyfan1000 actually you can blame stuart, he was not at gettysburg to spy on enemy postitions and strength, so the south was basically fighting blindfolded
As much as it pains me to acknowledge it, if one simply reads the seceding states official declarations for the causes of their Secession, one will see that preservation of the lagality of slave-holding was the prime motive. That said, secession is a fundemental right of a free state under given circumstances. The debate should be over the question of was there such justifying circumstances for the Confederate states of the time.
That sucks, I thought the whole point of reenacting was to transport the viewer back in time. The man on the speaker ruins everything, They should make the viewers wear somewhat period clothing and restrict vehicles then it would be a day to remember,
Yeah hey folks, take a look on the right flank. See the American flag down there? Yeah, um... what.. what are you saying? Yeah, you in the 50th row. Oh, you mean to say every flag on this field is American. Ooooh.
Both as a historian and reenactor I'm so glad that I didn't go this time around.
i just visited gettysburg and learned about this so brave of the confederates even though im from new jersey i still think they should get some respect. i mean to go up against a couple thousand union troops and charge across a field with no cover whatsoever, give them some respect. really.
The Federals did the same thing at Fredericksburg, and at Shiloh, the Confederates charge at the Feds who are covered by a sunken road during the Hornet's Nest, and at Antietam, the Feds charge at the Rebs who are covered by a sunken road. so i guess you could say that they had switched throughout the war. both sides practically did the same thing.
It wasn't just acouple of thousand union troops, they charge headlong into the middle of the union line for 3 quaters of a mile . Nine infantry brigades charged which is roughly 12,500 men, which they suffered over 50% casualties.
very nice video. My Greatgrand father served 2 years with the 4th NY infantry. He served at Antiem, Chancelorvile, and Fredricksburg. After his honarable discharge he reelinsted in the 39th NY Infantry (Garibaldi Guards)He was Wounded at Spottsylvania CH in May 1864 also at Ream's station in Sept. 1864. He was discharged in July 1865 as a 2nd LT Co E 39 th NY vols

@Someloke8895 Yep. :) You just a history buff or you reenact like me?
OneSkiWonder 1 year ago
@OneSkiWonder I do English Civil War (Charles 1st/Cromwell) re-enactment, and am a history nut. xD
Best of both worlds. The American Civil War interests me, as it is basically the last major war fought musket to musket.
Someloke8895 1 year ago
@Someloke8895 Cool, cool. :) Well I present arms to a fellow reenactor. :D If you go to Gettysburg 150th in Gettysburg, PA, I might see you there! :D

they just decide to take a hit whenever they feel like it or they run out of rounds, actually get hurt, or get too hot/ tired.
