@MrSprousefans i think i read somewhere that they couldn't find an actor for her or something so they changed the storyline to her dying after giving birth to Joe. i think...it's been awhile since i've read it. and Nancy is only in some of the episodes.
@MudskipperPoint the show was made after the books. i think it's like a continuation of them sort of. there's only one episode that's even remotely based off of one of the books.
too bad nancy's not in this one. Nancy, Bess, & George (or at least Nancy) would have visited him, or at least Nancy. I guess they could be some of the friends who sent letters too.
This has got to be one of the best-written episodes of the Hardy Boys series. Opening the story in this fashion was pretty surprising for a 70s mainstream show. Nice, heartfelt acting by Kate and Shaun here, too.
Good Lord, James Hong hasn't aged much in the last 30 years.
This was my favorite episode of all. I remember I taped it on a cassette tape before my family could afford a VCR. I would play it over and over again. I just Loved Parker and Shaun. I think Shaun is 6 years older than me and Parker is 11 years older than me. I still would love to see them act today. :)
@pokegal19 The nurse didnt say they died in the car crash, she said they died during some political thing...from what I understand they visited joe every day and then later got killed during the transfer of this defector the nurse told joe about.
When he did the facial expressions, the frst time, I felt like laughing (being the immature person that I can sometimes be) but I couldn't, it was just to darn sad. So your theory is proven correct. :(
@agentbooker95 my cousin & I used to race through washing dishes each week in order to finish b4 The Hardy Boys Mysteries came on! I can't believe you didn't know about the tv series. We lived for it. Our only disagreement was who was cuter, Frank or Joe. I had a thing for Shaun Cassidy & she had a thing for Parker Stevenson (whose real name is Steven Parker, btw...he changed his name b/c he was cast w/another Steven Parker so this way they weren't confused on the set of the show w/the guy).
@agentbooker95 I actually own a copy of the VHS of the Jade Statue & one other episode. The name of the 2nd escapes me. I haven't pulled them out in a while. My VHS player started eating tapes & I wasn't about to lose the 2 episodes I have b/c they don't make them anymore. I also have an old movie called Final Alliance w/David Hasselhoff that's pretty good. It's about his family's murder & he goes back home as an adult w/a bobcat. He goes after those who killed his family & thought him dead too.
@agentbooker95 I fell for the movie b/c it was an interesting movie. He was fmr military. His bobcat reminded me a lot of the 1 I befriended when I was young. I coaxed her into coming home. She was pregnant & ended up having more kits than she could nurse so our farm's vet helped me find a formula to feed the extra kits & rotate out so they had their mom's milk too. L8r, I taught them to hunt & they went back to the wild. I'd run across them when riding horses on occasion b4 we moved yr+ l8r.
This is for TV. My brother has every Hardy Boys book except for three that he collected growing up, and I read them with him. The same with Nancy Drew - you might see some similarities between the books and the shows, but none of the shows are based 100% on any single book.
OMG!! I remember this eppy like it was yesterday only because I had such a massive crush on my boy SC!! Oh man, good stuff back then! What a cutie he was back in the day and I LOVED The Hardy Boys series and books..
If you love the games, you should watch arglefumph play them. He is adorable. So silly and fun. He can make even the creepiest of moments in the Beast of Blackmoor Manor hilarious. :)
Oh my goodness! I just realized that the lady with the blonde hair (that is playing the nurse) is Diana Muldaur. Ironically I know her as Doctor Pulaski from "Star Trek The Next Generation"
@NancyHardy the only time they metioned her was when Mr. hardy was kidnapped in "the mystery of the hollywood phatom" when mr. fox gets a package with Mr. Hardy's ring and so on
@NancyHardy I remember that Frank mentions her in The mystery of the Hollywood phantom. When Fox recives Fentons ring, Frank says that Fenton got it from the boys' mother. But apart from that I don't think they've mentioned her.
i'm 15 and i read my first HB book in middle school! i love reading mystery books and i saw the mystery sign thingy on it so i checked it out and read it. i was hooked!! i read all the books in my middle school's library and my city's library (i think i have).
also, my mom used to watch this when she was in high school!!!!!!

animefan20o7 2 years ago 5
I think most of the episodes are "made for tv" and not necessarily based on any one book.
NancyHardy 2 years ago 3
I suspected as much cos I have 31 Hardy boys books And I don't recognise this at all.
Thanks for the upload, I didn't know this show even existed! Frank really do look like Harrison Ford, Han Solo version.

@animefan20o7 yeah some were named after the books, but had no relation to the books, which personally i think was way better than the show
