I am learning both Braille (by touch) and ASL, and that gets people REALLY confused when they find out that I am learning both at the same time. You should see the reactions on people's faces...well, I mean metaphorically of course.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I have a deaf/blind friend and people just don't know how to react. It's a good thing he can read lips and talk fairly well:) Learning Braille and ASL is a good thing. You never know when you'll need it.

This story is funny, but does not surprise me. It is amazing how many people make these types of mistakes. I am a teacher of students with visual impairments. When I tell people what I do for a living, I am commonly asked, "so do you know sign language, then?" I explain that most of my students do not use sign language, but that I do teach many of them braille. :)
