I had to log in just to say this is worse than pat boone's covers of metal/rock music. this is not saying anything about the singer i'm just saying some songs are better left not being covered. unless the song is going to be sung/played in the same spirit as the original.

Ease up there Cobain fans. No one is attacking your idol with this cover. Think of it as a tribute. The original will always be the original but I think this version is also very good. Its a different take on the song, one I never heard before.

The whole album is magnificent. This is really a high point on a record that I can only describe as the best set of covers I've ever heard. Smith really gets inside originals. She's practically channeling Cobain, but in a style all her own. She respects the original and still manages to bring out nuances that might always have been there.

@gubdad Really? ... I was disappointed by the album. This is probably the best track but adds nothing to the Nirvana Unplugged version and ‘White Rabbit’ was just awful. The album just made me want to play the original versions of these covers [sorry, re-interpretations]. I was expecting something more ‘ballsy’ from Patti Smith, maybe it’s overproduced and better live?
