Thank you for explaining the difference point of Xexyz and 亀の恩返し.
The fairy tale "Urashima Taro" of Japan is a motif in this though the people of Gaijin that sees this animation might feel the content of a Japanese version strange.
Therefore, the hero is a descendant of Taro, and the turtle is a motif in his fighter.
i like the us version more, because it feels more like an ancient planet...and because of no intro you imagine the causes and whys you are on that planet...
I definitely love the US version from what I remember as a kid, but this intro was new content to me, and gave reason for being there. Of course, there is the manuel, but they should have made a new intro instead. You can't really imagine much past the manual input anyhow.
After that, the original was supposed to be kinda the same type of "ancient" planet as well, I guess. A weird far away land.
To be honest, there is too little difference, so to me, the Japanese version fars a bit better. the NES version's lack of multiple endings could be considered a lack of replayability. It has passwords for endless boss, but they only do but so much.
Some designs are better on the Japanese version, and some the American. The dance is a bt silly, but i'd rather them replace the scene over removing it, maybe a reuniting scenario similar to the dance, but without dancing.
I guess that means the US version has nothing over the Japanese version then, at least gameplay wise. You can skip the openning and all to begin with, so nothing they took out was a nuisance. Personally, the Japanese version I find interesting for having all these differences. I think i'll do more, like of different versions of the game, as I did Sparkster. I want to do Toy Story and more.
Wow, that's very interesting.. Xexyz is one of my favorite NES games and I had no idea the Japanese version was so different in places. Thank you for uploading this!
Agree on the ending thing. It would have been so much more deeper with them. Many games leave Japan intact, so I don't know what happened here.
I don't think we would ever care what it was. If the other were the first thing we played, we'd like it all the same with the music and gameplay. Xexy's changes didn't save it from being underrated at all I only like a few changes.
They shouldn't have touched it cause despite my tolerance, I don't care how "bad ass" something HAS to look looks.
The only thing I really like about the Japanese version is the decorative title screen, the intro, the UFO to the boss room and the devil's face. Other than that, I like a lot of what was put in the US version, or in better term, what was taken out. We got a better looking last boss space ship! :D
Thanks for recommending this video. It seems this one only got minor changes, mainly for the better. I seemed to like more of the changes in the USA version. I mean those robots looked retarded, and the girl in the tub looks a lot better now. A lot of NES games aren't known for there stories, and it seems they wanted to make Xexyz the same, and remove it (from the beginning).
I do like the robots in the US version, but I like the Devil thing in the Japanese version better.
I also like the 3 ending choices and the skippable 30 sec to minute long intro to show how he got there like as in Monster Party, though the manual should tell you too. Most likely it's different from the Japanese version's manuel slightly.
Lastly, I also love the woman in the bath bettter in the American version too, she looks even more Anime cute like.
However, I'm pretty sure it was apart of censoring as she is half covering her self with a change of angle on here, whereas on the Japanese version, use can see a pixel that represents the crevise of her breasts.
Found translation. They removed ALOT of the original consept of the game, thus changing the name of the title and everything.
The orginal was Turtle Story and the land was the Dragon Kingdom, which was being invaded by the machine beast people. The guy was on a polluted beach when he found the turtle.
He then used his powers to save the turtle and it sent him to his land to give him the suit and mission. This is why he shoots out his hand.
Great Video!!!!!! Absolutely one of my favorite games growing up, although i never beat it until i was way older, i loved the music and the gameplay plus it was pretty out of this world when i was younger.....anyways good video and hmm very interesting differences in the the two different regions
Thanks. I'm not certain why bits were changed, most other games aren't over sees. SplatterHouse was changed in translation and due to this, SplatterHouse2 has plot holes. The fourth game takes after the american version so I don't know about Japan.
It took us a while to beat it too. Today it's a breeze for me. States help, but I can pass through whole portions without messing up.
ちゃんと通じるか不安だけど...

@silenceofthehills The JP version actually has the extra passwords, as well. I tried the US Passwords in the JP version and they work!

I agree that this game is underrated. I wish the US version had the different endings instead of those codes.

Almost like Dragon Power with it's changes.

Also, that's not the full title, maybe a subtitle "Turtle Story".

Awesome! This game doesn't get the love it deserves. I played the crap out of it when I was younger. It still ranks high on my all-time list.
