Some bands used it conventionally as it was designed: Imagination - In the Heat of the Night (1982) Paul Haig - Justice (1983) Some started experimenting with acid sounds: Section 25 - Looking from a Hilltop (1982) Heaven 17 - Let Me Go (1982) DAF - Verschwende Deine Jugend (1982) Acid house which influenced New Beat, not the other way around: Phuture - Acid Trax (1986) Sleezy D - I've Lost Control (1987)
The Bee Gees didn't use a TB-303, they used an ARP synthesizer on their Spirits Having Flown album. Plus, whether they were privy to new technology or not wouldn't have mattered since it wasn't made until 1981. Did they get a prototype 2 years early from Roland? Even if they did, why would they have wanted it? It was designed to emulate bass lines from a bass guitar. Its use as a acid box was an accident by people who experimented with it.
If I remember correctly the front guy is Dirk Vanderauwera. He became guitar player for LoA back in 88' in the first line-up. The guy in the background is Harry Van Oekel aka Dirty Harry who worked w/ Praga Khan / Jade 4U in late 80's, and co-wrote I sit on Acid. Nathalie Delaet was first frontlady of Lords of Acid '89-90. They toured Belgium clubs performing only I Sit On Acid & Acid Queen. She did no vocals on any LoA albums, but is on the cover of Lust connecting them all to LoA's history.
Although Praga Khan made this song under the 'Major Problem' moniker, this song was released on the Lords of Acid compilation album 'Heaven is an Orgasm'. That's the easiest way to obtain a digital copy of this song.
Actually that's incorrect. The tb-303 was used by the beegees, yes for the drums but also for the squelching acid sounds that they make. There were other acts in the early 80s that did this FAR BEFORE the chicago acts did. Well before them.
I'm sorry but I believe you are talking out of your arse. Can you give examples of these Bee Gees tracks? I would certainly love to hear them especially if they have a 303 supplying the drum sounds.
kraftwerk were first, at doing synthetic techno and electro beats, yes. kometen melodie 2, kristallo and others. everyone copied them to some extent yes.
and actually this video has more views on youtube than phuture's. that really says it all. of course these groups were tiny in comparison to stuff like front 242, new order, etc. at the time.
sorry dickhead but phuture's song is on youtube and it's clearly a different pattern. the fact that you cannot discern the difference proves that you lack the proper mental acuity to comprehend the sounds.
pure bullshit/rejectamenta. I have the vinyl of phuture, it's much different. furthermore the major problem track came out before phuture's, on kaos dance records. so it seems that blacks were copying euros yet AGAIN. just like kraftwerk. anyway it's not even the exact same sample. this is merely a 303 pattern that is looped like many 303 patterns of the 87-88 era.
so i don't think you should be upset that some europeans put out a better/harder track and had a better group(lords of acid).
i think you are wrong. 'in your mind' was given to ron hardy in 86 and released as 'Acid Trax' on Trax in 87. In 88 Larry Sherman Licensed 'Acid Trax' to a Play It Again Sam sublabel and 'We Are Phuture' to ZYX (along with Mr. Lee's 'Pump Up Chicago'). Three seminal Chicago acid records show up in Brussels record stores and that same year one of the only acid-flavoured tracks in the catalogue of the entire Antler umbrella is released? I think it's pretty clear who's copying who.
despite what i said, i the 303 lines on 'Slam' and 'Acid Queen' are a little different, and I actually prefer 'Acid Queen' for the slower speed and the more industrial-sounding drums, as well as the great use of some raw-sounding samples. You can hear the front 242 influence! I just wish Praga Khan didn't have to put some allusion to sex in EVERY track he is involved in.
One thing is clear.... the Acid 303 sound didn't start in chicago. The beegees and other disco artists used the 303 in their music too. That was the 70s. Without the likes of front 242 among earlier 80s techno artists/bands, the harder sounds never would have been like they are. New beat has so much front 242 in it that it's unavoidable and this sounds nothing like slam imo either.
The 303 was first produced from 1982-1984. You my friend, fail at your history... And although 242 was influencial, They got alot of their stuff from D.A.F, and Kraftwerk...
I'm afraid you do not know what you are talking about, the TB (transistor bass) 303 was first manufactured in 1982 and is not a drum composer. Mind you I am however very keen to here these proto acid Bee Gees tracks you're going on about, what are they called?

You're confusing the TB-303 with some other synth. It's a "transistor bass" synth, a bass line, not a drum synth.
Surely some filter squeels and bleeps were done earlier but TB-303 was created in the 80s.

Incorrect, the first ever 303 drum composer was made in the late 70s and used on not one but 3 beegees songs.
And DAF were doing NOISE/INDUSTRIAL on a real drumset NOT punk on a synthetic drum block like front 242 were.
Furthermore, prothese(daniel b of front 242) was doing similar music in 78. Before DAF.
you've failed at life.
