  • Great film - and sooo far ahead of its time

  • When ever those Bag Pipes start blasting my ole Ticker starts thumping like a tilted washing machine on the spin cycle !

It must be the Scottish blood in my body rushing around.

  • I guess it's just a different era of film making. If you look at the movie closely it's as if it was made as a play. You can act out the entire movie scene by scene on a stage and you still wouldn't miss any of the movie's essence. In a way that's exactly how the book was written too. Guess that's what common between the book and the movie.

  • If you think the movie is good the book is equally compelling.

  • Great film, can watch it over and over again, very complex film as well, lots of sub-plots in it.

  • i got this free in the paper!!!

  • A great movie. Too bad that you do not have the means to sell me a DVD

  • What a cast John Frazer the piper was like a Scottish Jeffery Hunter. Guinness, Mills and Jackson were all magnificent. Agree that it Beats hands down any of the Hollywood rubbish old or new.

Saw it today on movies for men on Sky TV.

  • Thanks to this post I saw this film last week; and yes: Alec Guinness' performance is brilliant!

British films from the 1950-'70 are indeed the best ones. Sadly it's very difficult to see good pictures nowadays; just think of all that Hollywood rubbish...

  • Black Bear - Whoooooooooooooooooooo!!

  • The best film ever made.

    The best acting (guinness) ever

  • @fantablum the amazing screenplay was by james kennaway, i think he was a really underrated writer. I personally love 'a country dance' even more than this and this and i would give this the 5 stars.

  • why can´t you load the whole film ?
