  • Astounding film, a spectacle for the soul. This is the American Metropolis, or rather Metropolis is the German Thief of Bagdad. It boggles my mind that after 3 years of film school, I'm just now hearing and seeing this film. This is one of those films that is so good, its hard to believe such a great work exists. Bravo.

  • Those towers in the set are so surreal, its as if it was another planet.

  • LOve it!

  • Just heard about this movie on late radio . Can't wait to see whole thing....looks good

  • A whole new woooooooorld

  • There are several DVD versions of this film. Check amazon

  • It's funny, to do that today would involve a lot of computer graphics, and it probably wouldn't look so convincing. Silent movies had so much more class than modern movies do

  • no its because the visual resolution is much much lower back then than it is now with High Definition and all the extremely high quality cameras, that pick up things our eyes cant even percieve at a speed....

if this movie with those effects was shot with todays cameras it would look outright rediculous...good movie though storywise...computer effects do tend to take away from the story and more towards production value

  • @Sturman422 Actually, this movie was shot on 35mm film, which has a far higher resolution and picture quality than High Definition video. Of course, thanks to age and wear, the film has degraded quite a bit. However, I was fortunate enough to see this movie on a near pristine 16mm print struck from the original negative. It wasn't a perfect image, but it was very clear. And let me tell you, the effects were more incredible on a big screen than they ever could be on youtube. It was phenomenal!

  • isnt the war hero Jack Churchill supposed to be in this movie?

  • hilary duff should act in silent films... haahah

  • aahahahahahha

  • is it available in dvds?

  • I don't think so

  • Yes, it is. I have it from Netflix right now.

  • Well, there we are. At last we have proof of UFOs.

Doug and Mary's mansion Pickfair was torn down by Pia Zadora. She said it had termites.

Pia showed the way for young women who want to succeed in show biz. Just marry a billionaire.

  • This is a wonderful film, very stylish and lovely with a storybook quality to its sets. Go rent the whole thing! I urge everyone to take time to see this one.

  • One the most !!!!!

  • I was surprised that they could do that special effect during the silent era. Looks real. Silent movies are a very interesting piece of movie history.

  • omg! the visual effects in this are unbelievable! just shows you that throwing a pc at every problem isnt the answer! look how amazing it looks without blue screen etc etc

  • If it wasnt for the silent movies, you ignorant....!!Thing!!, Hollywood would not be today in the world map for motion pictures. These sort of movies, (Today considered to be works of art) F:Y:I was the type that at the time filled all movie houses around the world and made millions of dollars in those days, making the US economy flourish. Ignorant Thing, TV didn't exist, nor PC, Nor I Pods, noe DVDs etc etc.... Just in case you didn't know. I hope your small brain grasp this information.

  • cynics need to leave youtube

  • ur face is.

  • Isn't it amazing what you can do without computers? Hollywood has been possessed by computer animation...hardly anything looks real anymore. I'm all for it, but only when it is necessary. Thank goodness we can go back and watch these classics - a nice break from the crap we have to watch today.

  • Couldn't have said it better. These were true movie artists like Rembrandt and DaVinci they created masterpieces you'll never see their likes again.

  • Yeah i know exactly what you mean. That's the reason why i love old school movies.

Also back in those days people were more ignorant about the rest of the world...and so people had more imagination, adventures and stories to tell. Nowadays we got T.V, Internet and we all know mostly everything there is to know about what's 'out there'.

Now half the guys that are 13 y/o know every position there is to know during intercourse =/ wish i lived in the older days. More adventure ^^

  • Acting. Can anyone here remember ACTING? Today, "acting" means reacting to that blue-screen special effect to be added later.

  • @prgwbtd They could do wonders with an optical printer in the 1920's. Most of todays GCI looks phoney. Of course there are exceptions like what Industrial Light and Magic can do.

  • @prgwbtd Movies, from the very beginning, have used the hi-tech of the era... including this expensive one... I disagree with you... Technology is the bassement of the movies....

  • I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please check out my latest one on some top 1930's movie star legends on trading cards. They include: Douglas Fairbanks, Mae West, Marlene Dietrich, Maurice Chevalier, Gary Cooper, Buster Keaton, Clark Gable, Lilian Harvey, Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford ....
