  • Holy shit. Umm can we get married? I have skype. You done this song formidable justice :)

  • this is the best song

  • Great music!

  • i was listening to just listen to the song, then i read it was you covering it! thought it was just a recording i'd never heard before! brilliant. I thought the Latin pronunciation was perfect, but I have no knowledge of Latin pronunciation.

  • There's isn't a 'correct' pronounciation of Latin, really. There are two different dialects that tend to be used - classical and mediaeval - but frankly, it's a dead language. Anyone who tries to speak it is inevitably going to be influenced quite heavily by their mother tongue.

  • C'est si joli. Merci!

  • Bravo, excellent, you pronounce it much better than even I can ever try. My aramaic, my mother tongue, sounds even worse. :D Bravo. Honestly, it was great!

  • Very very good. Fantastic.

  • Listen to this it'll blow your socks off..

  • @rl1712 Lol partridge fan.

  • the sound is very nice, but your pronunciation it isn't correct. If you want, you can see other version in my profile with the correct pronunciaton. I'm sorry, but i'm very bad speaking and writing english!!! =)

  • Who cares. Beautiful.

  • Your right, your latin sounds very anglo-amerikan, but you sing it anyway very good and it's a joy to listen.

  • Your Latin is just fine...this is beautiful :-)

  • Well done, that's superb. Technically, we're-g(as in goat)in-eh, but 'church latin' was a moveable feast, so no matter. Fabulous work.

  • brilliant

  • What kind of a song is this?

  • @jackleesparrow it's a 16th century christian coral with roots in the medieval. normally song on christmas. Take look on wiki under "gaudete" for more information.

  • una hermosa cancion labado sea nustro señor jesucristo

  • WOW that was beautiful

  • @purpurteufel Thank you!

  • even your latin is not perfect it´s great. you have a nice voice. my respect.

  • @Metalhammer1993 Thanks!

  • So gorgeous. <3

  • fucking beautiful.

  • @Rut267 Thanks :)

  • The only 'fault' I can find is the Latin pronunciation, as you yourself said. But that is not really a fault at all, since this might have sounded exactly like this when sung in England in the late Middle Ages. Very nice layer of voices, very nice indeed!!!! Congrats. :-)

  • @amatorynumber Thank you :)

  • This is amazing!! This kind of music restores my faith in humanity....I love this!!

  • @EsotericOccultist Thank you!

  • Absolutely beautiful. Thank you very much.

  • @Stevenwigmore I'm glad you liked it. Thank you :)

  • @lifeinacndyswrl

It's lovely! :) Your voice really suits the song. I especially like how you've managed to do all the parts individually. The effect is really cool! :)

  • love this from robotruss

  • Virgin is mis-pronounced here. sorry but it is.

  • @blindingsun I know.

  • Wow, you have done a brilliant job on this. Your voice is lovely and you have layered the harmonies brilliantly. The images are the perfect accompaniment to the music. 10 out of 10!

  • Just beautiful.

  • @marmite400 Thanks!!

  • Beautiful singing. Well done!

  • @herbaliser555 Thank you :)

  • The pronunciation may be a little off, but the pitch and tune is excellent! Keep up the great music!

  • Just perfect!!!!!

  • @8Wolff8 Thanks :)

  • That was beautiful. Well done girl.

  • Very good singing, but I just can't believe this girl tried her "best" with the pronunciation.

  • @moltoallegro19 Give me a break! I was 18, didn't know latin and learned the song by listening to British people singing it. I just pronounced the words the way they did it and I didn't know they were pronouncing them wrong.

  • @lifeinacndyswrl That's what I mean: you didn't try your best. I'm convinced that you could pronounce this correctly if you really had done some research. I'm not trying to complaine here, what I mean is that you're being unjust to yourself if you say that you tried your best. You sing this greatly and I suppose you put most of the effort, when learning this, on intonation and learning the harmonies and that the pronunciation just came along automatically, copied from whatever version you heard.

  • @lifeinacndyswrl Interesting. Span are an ENGLISH folk-rock group and they tried to convey that English accent of the period - so, in your diligence, you acquired that Mummer-ish flavour and phrasing - and what some would call "bad" accent: it's fascinating.

I happen to love Span's interpretation, [an English ear] and I also love yours. Furthermore, I think your voice is fine and strong and possessing of a fabulous quality and tone - that's the main thing.

  • @lifeinacndyswrl No one knows how Latin was pronounced. There was a "common" Latin and a more highbrow Latin which actually had different words for the same nouns. So I say very well done all round. Nobody knows how Latin was pronounced. My dad is a Latin teacher.

  • @lifeinacndyswrl That was you ? If so that was magnificent well done.

  • @moltoallegro19 I've read complaints about this song all over You Tube. In the Middle Ages, only priests, monks and scholars learned Latin, and even some of THEM used faulty pronunciation. A parish choir of average, uneducated people would have learned this song by rote. They would have sung it with their local accent , and at times would likely have used imperfect Latin. The meaning remains, for the song was written as an exercise of faith and joy, not as an exercise in proper Latin usage.

  • @lichtbroeder Well, obviously the pronunciation varied tremendously over Europe in the Middle Ages; but if you are an experienced chorist you know that the pronunciation of Latin usually is adapted to the origin of the piece. If you are singing Fauré's Requiem you're Latin should have a French touch, but when you're singing Verdi it's more appropriate to use "Italian" Latin. Gaudete has its origins in Sweden and should therefore be sung with a Scandinavian pronunciation (preferably Swedish).

  • @moltoallegro19 Our German choir is singing macaronic songs by Praetorius. We do not sing the Latin parts with a German "pronunciation". My point with Gaudete was that average people for centuries did sing Latin with regional "sounds" or errors in pronunciation. The Gaudete that we hear in this video (or by Steeleye Span for that matter) may not be "perfect" linguistically, but it is enjoyable, reverent, human, and would have been heard in churches centuries ago. It need not be criticized.

  • @lichtbroeder Well, most professional choirs strive to so, anyways (not saying your's is not). But let me just say that such an American accent that we hear in this video would not have been heard centuries ago and that the Gaudete was not widely spread outside Scandinavia until the 19th century.

  • Bonus! (That's Latin for "good") !!!

  • I'm An Aithiest But Wow,

I Could Easily Become A Christian Listening To This. <3

  • @Hollyberry95 Wow that is like the ultimate compliment! haha. Thank you!

  • very best version of gaudete on youtube

  • @Kundiot Thanks so much!

  • Gorgeous. Every part takes my breath away--but your solo is the best part of all. :)

  • @DragonofthePen aw thanks!

  • I really enjoy this version. You have an awesome voice in all voice parts, that's incredible! Lol, I wish there were 3 of you so I could listen to you as a choir live! XD

  • @GerardWay4President aw thank you!!

  • Very impressive!

  • @JanJiska Thank you!

  • Fucking hell this is awesome.

  • @Firstserger Thanks!

  • ***** *

  • Outstanding! Bravo!

  • Lovely!

  • what is she singing about .and is it in Latin? sounds so pleasant.

  • @vlad013 Rejoice, rejoice, for Christ is born of the Virgin Mary!

  • @lichtbroeder May Allah's Peace and blessing be upon holy Prophet Jesus Christ and his holy virgin mother Mariam. Peace and love for those of believe truth and stand justice and universal love.xx

  • @vlad013 And His blessings upon you and yours too!

  • @vlad013 May Jesus's, son of God, Peace and blessing be upon you and the hole mankind.

  • Seriously if you have recorded this your self then wow.. I’m mean wow its brilliant.

  • As a lover of LIGUA LATINA, the pronouciation sucks, but is no worse than that of, say, the Morman Taberncle Choir. The singing is beautiful, and in time will be more so. Great work! Here are some Latin tips:

    V=W

    C= always as in "cat"

Everything with a slighly Italian accent.

  • @shoey666 Yeah, I am more of a classical person. You know, the original pagan Latin, not the Medieval version. However, you are right in that this song is Medieval not Ancient.

  • @Ignoonoo4 Do you have any good tips like albums ore song, seen your interest :)

  • Listen to this... It'll blow your socks off!

  • @gimpoid1985 Gill, do you like owls?

  • Not perfect pronunciation by any means.

But it is a song of praise and joy - it is the thought that counts. :-)

I am sure God is more than pleased by these words and their intended meaning. I've added it to my "Pleasing to God's Ears" playlist. Deus te benedicas. God bless you.

  • Great gob! Either the people who are being so harsh are jealous or musically handicap.

  • Gadeteee? Maria Virdsheneee? Omg this english latin xD

  • @marryrmst

OMG this crappy text talk ;-O

  • It sounds awfull! Most of time it's out of tune and a very bad pronounciation!

  • i love the song, however, it sounds like they are sick. Anuna has a much better version from their "Celtic Origins" CD -DVD. The one on You-tube looks like someone filmed it at a mall.

  • sie hat eine wunderschöne stimme...eine sehr schöne botschaft...lediglich das gott mensch geworden ist falsch verstanden...prophet jesus ist gottes gesandter

weder gottes sohn noch gott...denn gott ist allmächtig und gleicht nichts und niemanden und existiert ohne raum zeit und ort...da er den raum ort und die zeit und alles was darin existiert erschaffen hat

  • I love this, the voice(s) are so well done and so beautiful. Im adding this to my faves and sending it to soem friends who are quite the music lovers. Thank you for sharing this

  • great work, respect!

  • Gave this another look-still beautiful lifeinacndyswrl.....

  • It's been a really long time since I listened to your version of Gaudete, but today I rediscovered it while going through my Favorites. It's still as stunningly beautiful as I remembered it! You have an amazing, truly blessed voice and to be able to sing it in three different voices is quite an achievement. I'd like to see how many can equal that. You go, girl - and for God's sake keep singing! :-)

  • She has a lovely voice, but I can't get over the pronunciation. Admittedly I've become a bit of a diction snob after many years of drilling various choral music though. I do applaud the effort though, and it's a fine selection of music :-)

  • bad ancent

  • @Quader4x4

    Equally bad spelling.

  • best version of gaudete on youtube

    *****

    great

  • @Evildoer1000 thanks!

  • I think it is great!

  • Beautifully done, both vocally & recording wise ... really enjoyed it, thanks!

  • Just beautiful

  • wow...brilliant.Love your voice....thanx....

  • @Holli62 thank you!

  • Excellent.

    Beautifully sung.

  • Its been over a year since I added this to my favourites and I sill love it to bits.A great voice and a great song. Thanks for sharing.

  • @uo8am aw thank you so much!

  • Comment removed

  • Would you care to expand on that?

  • This (first of all) is a very unmusical, uninteresting performance.

    Don't like your singing voice!!!

/And the Latin language under a bold point of "i"/

  • So we can expect to hear your version soon can we? Splendid! I'm looking to record my own and I'd like an expert reference version.

Why can't you jjust be nice? Why be so negative? This woman gave something to us for her pleasure and ours. Why are you so bitter about it?

  • @Avalon888 Thank you very much for sticking up for me :)

  • how lucky we are that this is your own opinion.

Holy grap, you have a opinion ?

  • @mrbeam123 !!!

If I would say that it's beautiful ... I just lie to myself.

And those who believe that the performance is good just because "someone trying to" - you must better to wash the ears! ;)

  • Maybe your right maybe wrong. In MY ears it sounds good.

  • Hey zaardele - please please I beg you to upload you singing this, you seem to be an amazing singer with your comments - if you admit you arent a good singer then please keep your damn comments to your selfish self!!!

  • @zaardele Obviously no one let you know as a child that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. If you don't like it, there's no call to make very cruel remarks about an amateur's voice. (By the way, amateur literally comes from the word 'love', ie. someone who just does something because they love it, not because they get paid. I'm sure that in a few years, this will not be as good as what the singer will become capable of. But the way to improve is not to beat down.)

  • @phoenixpax

She has a right to sing. I have freedom of speech.

  • I'd like to do a layered version of this myself but I'm concious that it grates on peoples nerves when the words are "wrong". Can someone guide me to a guide or tell me what to look out for in my version?

  • @Avalon888 There is no correct pronouciation as such since latin is still a living language and it is difficult know precisely how the prayer would have been sung many centuries ago. Try consulting a Roman Catholic priest. Latin is still commonly spoken in the Church

  • Absolutely lovely. Thank you!

  • Beautiful

  • Excellent!

  • Beautifully sung. Thank you for sharing. :)

  • Beautifully performed. By advised that the "I" in Virgine is pronounced as a long E. Otherwise your Latin pronunciation is very good.

  • Happy Gaudete Sunday everyone!

  • I Love this song

  • This is beautiful. Well done!

  • How very blessed. May you always know God and in abundance. Peace be with you.

  • I recently created a cover of this on garageband. I'll post it as soon, as I can get some of Christmas based pics drawn.

  • Congratulations ! Your voices sound softer than the version of Steeleye Span which is the reference ! Phalaïna

  • JESUS THATS JUST YOU!!

    Thats amazing.

PS who knows if your pronounciation of latir were right; there's no one around to say you were not spot on

  • buena voz, pero una pésima pronunciación de latin, aunque se escucha bonito.

  • You have an absolutely beautiful voice. Wow.

Your pronunciation of the word "virgine" is kind of annoying but yeah, there's technically no correct pronunciation...

  • Most excellent. Thank you and may you continue to be Divinely blessed.

  • potenita animi is much better :D

  • Povero latino...

Pronunciato in maniera così assurda !

  • You have an incredible voice! Absolutely beautiful! If you haven't released an album yet, you definitely should.

  • latin isn't really this difficult to sing correctly...you could have done a little investigative work into the vowels of latin.

  • the voices sound amazing. but virgine (i cant remember the spelling) should have more vEEr-geen-eh rather than vur-gin-ay

other than that it sounds beatiful, i love the blend of the voices

  • You are amazing! =]

  • this song brings back a lot of memories for me, beautiful song

  • Holy crap. I heard this, and then tried to find it on Ares so I could download it. Then I read the side message and it said that you yourself sung this. O.O

You did a terrific job. : ) And to everybody who is bitching about the pronounciation - for Christ's sake (no pun)! It's sung in a fucking dead language in an extinct form (Medieval Latin)! They don't have a course in Medieval/Renaissance Latin at every university, so cut her some slack.

  • It is a beautiful song, and every new version is welcome.

There is no such thing as a correct pronunciation of medieval Latin: these lyrics were composed in central Europe and collected in England. Steeleye Span chose a pronuncaition which suited them; this is the correct procedure.

  • Another one that would be great is St Patrick's Breastplate - I bind to thee my country. Your voice would really suit that.

    This one is great, though!

  • i really like this version. =) well done youre a great singer x

  • I'm really surprised by some of the comments here. The singing is incredibly beautiful, nicely harmonized - what a great job.

As for the pronunciation: it's actually pretty good. Secondly, Claudia didn't claim that her's is perfect, in fact she clearly stated the opposite, didn't she? This leaves me with the conclusion, that the folks here, who negatively commented on the pronunciation, have a problem with their reading.

    Just logical, right?

  • I like it a lot. And the pronunciation is fine, apart from the gaudeTAY

  • Thank you for sharing! Wonderful praise for Our Lady!

  • thehillcefis - I know you are but don't hurt people's feelings. I've studied Latin but prefer to post in English on this site.

  • i don't really want hurt people's feelings.. i want only aid our lady with latin... you could halp me with english.. i'm not a good english speaker! i apologise if i hurt someone.. forgive me for my bad english!

  • The singer has already said that her pronunciation is not perfect so please stop criticising her. Her voice is really nice.

All those getting upset, why don't you post a video of your own singing? That would be interesting.

  • bad pronunciation!!! english-speakers! let's learn latin!

  • Everybody stop bitching about the pronunciation it's incredibly hair-splitty and annoying. Nobody knows, the language is no longer spoken much. Go ask someone from the vatican before you proclaim your terminal knowledge of Latin.

  • It would be "gow-de-tay".

  • The song is beautiful, but those singers...

  • Your Latin pronunciation is an improvement on Steeleye's!

  • Ive always loved listning to this song

    and your really good

    keep singing

  • Love this song....

  • This is really wonderful. Your pronunciation sounds pretty good too. Well done!

  • what??? it's a terrible american pronunciation!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Calm down or you'll run out of exclamation marks.

  • sola veritas dico!
